Simon’s work is next level. Such a great project he’s been working on. I only recently stumbled across his work and it’s inspired me to take more street portraits in my hometown. Thanks for your video Paul.

Was the time traveler character influenced by the TV show, Fringe? ie one of the observers

It wasn’t but I’ve seen a lot of tv that influences the time traveller. There’s a series called Dark that has a Time traveller feel to it and there’s a guy with a hat in that. Some old British Sci Fi and plenty of other stuff that’s gone into my brain since childhood. That mixed with a bunch of dreams I’ve had. Thanks so much for watching and Merry Christmas

do you meter using the m6 or hand held?

  • @paulreidphotography

I know when a light meter is being fooled. For example I knew that sky behind would give me an exposure for the sky rather than the person. So exposed higher a couple of stops. In general I’ve found the M6 meter to be very useable as long as you question it when you look at the scene. Thanks so much for watching the video and merry Christmas

I really love black and white/ monochrome photography, I think it's so beautiful and unique. I have the Panasonic g9 and recently bought the g100 for travel and street. I need a monochrome camera but the price, would love one of the Leicas but they are like dream machines, what are your thoughts on the Pentax k3 mark iii monochrome? It's priced a lot cheaper but it's huge it's a DSLR and some review I watched the reviewer said it was a very light camera... It's 820g with a battery and SD card. Where as my G9 is about 496g or something and I thought that was cumbersome 😂 what are your thoughts and will you be doing a review on it?

Hi there, it’s a lomograohy holder. Not that expensive. You can get it as part of a kit which is a waste of money but the holder on its own is great. Plastic. But great. I bought the copy stand from Etsy.

Hi Paul, funny to see you using 35mm film for a project. After having a go at converted colour film (silbersalz), I am now embarking in using fuji accros II plus Ilford XP2. I am especially interested in the XP2 for the scanning into a flat image that will lend itself well for ermmm adjustment to platinum printing keeping the extremes under control. I admit being a bit sceptical at your scanning. Not that I am doing anything fabulous, just a lowly nikon coolscan IV from over 20years ago. However the 2900dpi scan piloted by vuescan gives astonishing results I have printed with great pleasure on 16x20. Scanning is in fact so much easier on C41, E6 and ECN2 thanks to ICE tech. happy to convert to BW in Lightroom. I am genuinely curious at how useable your method is for printable results. Regarding your story, is a bit of a laugh (in a good way). I think I preferred imaging my own story. but that is me. interesting that you actually formulated a true story behind. Cheers Patrick

So I can’t say I’m an expert scanner! However the Fuji XH2 can do pixel shift scanning. That means more accurate at a grain level. Huge files way beyond the needs of 35mm. But what to I know? Hey I will still be using the Q2M. I’m just having so much fun with film right now it’s hard to tear myself away from it. Yeah honestly I’d rather not tell stories with words and let people work it out. But I equally get people completely confused as to why I’m taking photos of someone in a helmet. Honestly I just love running stories in my head. If anyone asks for a time traveller story they won’t be getting it. Ha haaa!

@@paulreidphotography very interesting that you get very usable files, never occurred to me! probably as well much quicker than my pedestrian process :). I understand the fun with film aspect. Just edited a number of further London Film shots, rendition is decidedly different to my eye. Or do I convince myself it is different? Happy you shared your story, but time traveller and metalhead were enough of a cue to me to get imagination going! I guess some prefer when it all revealed, whileI love the half hidden, so, personal stuff indeed.

Yeah I think I need to stop using the Cinestill developer also as it’s so prone to bromide drag! You need to agitate it a lot more than the instructions say. I also heard that more agitation more grain

Ahhh Mark I know what you’re saying. I started many years ago with film and I’m sure I’m just trying to get back there sometimes. The truth is, once you go back to 35mm film you realise that any camera that has been out in the last decade is good enough.
