This reminds me of when my iPhone 4 or 4S slipped off my wallet (which were sat on a fireplace) face first onto the tiled floor. Thankfully it only cracked the glass screen protector

Considering the discrepancies in glass shattering from the various tests I have seen on the new iPhones I can confidently say that the manufacturing process for hardened glass has a differing variance of strength from sample to sample

People do know that drop tests aren't a very scientific way of determining how likely it is your phone will break on a drop right? It's 90% luck. You could drop it from 10 feet and be ok or 2 feet and have it break. Small variances in the ground, glass of the phone, and impact location make all the difference.

Yougotnomilk a friend of mine cracked their S8 in a similar way. It’s all just good/bad luck. Unless your sample size is in the thousands, you won’t be able to measure if 1 phone is more resistant to another

Honestly, I don't know why people would spend so much money on a smartphone *and not* use it with a case. I mean yes it does kind of suck that it's not the _pure essence_ . But think about it. You're making an expensive investment with expensive repairs. Does it not make sense to use a durable and well designed case and screen protector? 2:24 Drop test starts. 3:58 Shattered I don't care if Apple says it's more durable than before. It's glass. It will shatter. Unless they use like a full, actual sapphire glass, then no.

Somewhat yes and no, Sapphire glass is made of Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) and is fairly brittle. Brittle things tend to shatter on impact. But as sapphire is very scratch resistant it prevents having micro crack that weakens it from shattering on impact. So if you compare it with standard tempered glass you could shay it is somewhat more shatter resistant. But if you drop it on the floor hitting a small stone in the middle of the floor at the middle of the screen it will shatter.

I’m currently watching this with tears in my eyes through a cracked XS screen after dropping it from waist height not 5 minutes ago. I even had a $50 speck case on 😖

But you can replace the glass on the back... I’m planning on doing it, just place it on a hot plate with all hardware removed and heat it very hot, using gloves and a knife, start picking away at the glass backing. Leave the camera till last. This just clean it up, apply adhesive and stick a new screen and camera lens on.

Bulletproof glass is incredibly thick. Smartphone screens need to be thin so we can actually use them

This is pretty good to be honest, like the guy said it’s just the way it’s dropped flat and the shockwave which caused it to break. Side drops seem to hold up well.

my cheapest rolex is worth 5x as much and has actual scratches from use and the like (all my watches do), i don't care about scratching a 10k watch vs a 1m one meanwhile, i've been to rich/wise for phones for 5+ years my daily carry is a mechanical watch, a proper knife (today benchmade presidio), cigarettes and car keys my last phone was a blackberry bold and i loved it, and if i were to get a phone ever again it would be another one, fuck trends

Bought my iPhone XS Max on release date. Didn’t use a case its whole life. It got hit out of my hand today and it fell onto the concrete and carcaked. However there is only 2 small cracks on the top right and left of the screen. Very durable phone and I’m not the most careful person when it comes to phones either. Lucky I’ve got apple care so its not much of a problem. Bands are a little scratched and back glass too but other than that it’s fine. The cracks are also much different in comparison to an iPhone 7 for example. It doesn’t spiderweb as badly.

brother please mention the model of the phone in your drop tests like, B/A or L/A. I think it can be possible that different regional iPhones have different types of durability. I was watching Jerry's video, he fell his iPhone XS 6/7 times yet no major dents found! but it this video, it took only 3 drops to break the front glass. that terrible.

CONCLUSION: On paper - just like oftentimes with the processor - it might definitely be more durable. However, in practice it's still all about getting lucky with the dropping angle, surface and height.

you are not very smart. Look at the views this video is getting, it's nothing but a cost of production to him. Just like you pay actors in movies, he uses the money to buy iphones to drop them and the video views/ads revenue exceeds the cost of production. It's really simple if you think about it, no one would do this test if it wasn't profitable.

Heyy bro it also depends on the surface u are dropping on concrete has very high rigidity that's why the impact is totally rebounded if it's on wooden surface or bitumen road the results are gonna be different.
