Hey Gary how you doing? If i may: please when you do a full review of this ipad, please please concentrate on the size and let us know how it is and how it feels to use a mini. Pros, cons, different situations where it works better and / or worse than the bigger ipads, etc. I know it sounds obvious but lately i feel like the KZread reviewers community went from "reviewing" to "reading the spec sheet and stating the obvious with a bit of complaining about the stuff they wanted but didnt get". Everyone is repeating the same stuff over and over, and not letting us know anything new compared to simply reading apples website....i watch a review to see how it would be to own the product, not to get the video version of the spec sheet. And i took the time to write this to you because i know you can deliver, thats exactly the reason why i subbed to your channel many years ago when you reviewed cameras. This starlight color is sick. In broad daylight it’s a bright silverish but in lower light it develops a gold hue. I’m loving so far. The speakers are nuts too

@@hilalm.397 i havent tried note taking. But drawing on it is really good with the bigger screen real estate from the mini 5. Multi tasking is dope. Im watching “For all mankind” on apple tv while texting. Its a win for me

I didn’t know the design spelt “MINI” either. I have set it on the lock screen. Mine said “Australia”. I got the Space Grey. Main purpose it to use on public transport (after the world’s longest lockdown) I was able to type from my bluetooth keyboard. Also if you press Command button comes up with a box of shortcut suggestions.

I had already standardized all my notebooks on the U.S. Letter half-page size. I was delighted to find the iPad mini fits right in. It wants you to set up two different fingers so you can set up your right finger and your left finger so you can use Touch ID in ANY orientation. The volume control buttons work so that the upper button increases the volume and the lower button lowers the volume in ANY orientation. I got my old mini with the maximum storage so I could load it up with ebooks, magazines and ripped movies. I ended up using it for everything. But I cheaped out and didn't get it with cellular and have regretted it ever since because Wi-Fi still isn't everywhere yet. I liked the way that in a notebook cover it could pass as a Kindle like so many other people on the bus have so I wouldn't stick out as That Guy with an iPad. This one will do nearly everything ANY other iPad will do except fit in your jacket pocket. The thing is CRAZY portable, big enough but Never too big. I've heard that many people are getting this new mini with cellular to use as a cheaper, larger iPhone! I'm getting mine with the maximum storage AND cellular (I promised myself this time) and it will still cost only $799. I paid $699 for my iPad with Retina display (iPad 2) with the maximum storage (128 GB) and no cellular. It still works well, but this new one has enough new features to justify the upgrade AND it comes in PURPLE?!

Just set mine up here in Sweden. Love it. Got the purple, Wi-Fi, 256gb version. In Sweden our region is set to Germany by default. Need to scroll through the list. Love your content 👊🏼

Picking mine up this afternoon. I agree, wasted space for the icons. That’s my only gripe. Hope there’s an update.

Hey Gary, i updated my 8th Gen iPad to OS 15 Wednesday night and the first thing i noticed when the screen turned back on was that the aspect ratio seemed way off and there looked like a ton of wasted space. At first i thought the same as you, maybe changing the app icon size would help but obviously it didnt lol. Im really liking everything else about iPad OS15, just hope they change the layout and take more advantage of the wasted space. Great video brother!

Hey great video as usual! Im watching your video on the mini right now. Excited about playing around with it this weekend. This is the best $499 that I’ve spent in a long time.

my first impression is also about the icons being so small, the screen doesn't look as nice as the ipad pro and the response to pen is little laggy. But in general, I think "mini" is creating a new era for tablets. The size is so satisfying to play, to read and also to text.

I had the same reaction with the space around the apps after my iPad updated to iOS 15. Not sure what they were going for there… Really weird.

Equally disappointed. Glad Gary mentioned it. I hope this is fixed. The "reason" they did it was for sure due to widget alignment consistency across portrait/landscape, but the spacing changes are just really disturbing. Until they make the App Library customizable, I rely on home screens, and now I have to look at a bunch of spacing on all the sides (not using any widgets anyway). :(

I got my iPad 9 today and I am loving it! It’s more than enough for me!

I haven't read it anywhere so far, can anyone confirm if there mini has strong magnets like the pro does when it attaches to the Apple keyboard? There are some new stands for the Pro on Kickstarter that are using this as a way of mounting the iPad. It would be nice if they had similar options for the mini.

Just recieved my iPad mini 6. Love it. When I upgraded my iPad mini 5 to iOS 15, the emty space on the home page showed up. Hate it. A video on how to change it back to the way it was in iOS 14 would be great!

It really is too small for keyboard, the touchscreen keyboard works very well though

Got the exact same ipad mini should arrive monday. Agree on the wasted space in the app layout. Not botherd by the lack of smart connector though

Great unboxing! Im from Australia and had to scroll through the list to find it on my iPhone 13 mini..Didn’t need to om the iPad 6. Just got my iPad mini today and so far I’m loving it.

Oh look, my next phone. Not kidding, As for keyboards I have the last version and typing is a little tight but doable. Great video as always.

@@dr.oneilaakashbiswas1038 I was on the 11" and had to quickly go right back to it. The scaled down version they have going on with the mini just is ridiculous. All the wasted space on the sides and the app icons and everything seem larger on my iphone 12 pro than on this larger mini. I am returning it today.

I ve goy the pro 12,9 2018 and recieved my mini on friday : il s à perfect complément to Watch KZread, play , read my emails, read books …. And i can do that In my couch or In my bed Don t regret my purchase ( starlight colour 256 go)

A video I would like to see is, can the iPad mini be used as a cheaper iPhone replacement? Seems really interesting since not only is it cheaper, but it’s also bigger, doesn’t have side rails that are fingerprint magnets, and is more comfortable to hold two-handed

I'm a teacher and would like it as a note taking device. I think it'd work really well. I currently have an iPad Pro 11" 2018. The speakers are great on this device. Do you think the smaller device would cope with producing audio for listening material in a 30m2 auditorium?

Zagg made a great keyboard for the older iPad mini so I will hope they make a great one for this new Mini.

I love the “apple” :). My 13 pro max was region locked for me. I live in Florida. I am thinking about getting the iPad mini 6 for work since I look at PDF’s and documents all day in the OR.

Got my 256gb Wi-Fi space gray delivered this morning. I love it overall. I really do regret not getting the one with cellular though. Having to pick up my phone to reply to texts is already proving to be annoying. If I do have any gripes its not having Face ID. Remembering I have to keep scanning my finger feels so old fashioned. I also felt like the 120Hz on my iPad Pro wasn’t a big deal, but now back to 60Hz with the mini it’s definitely noticeable so I do wish they gave us that as well. Animations seem a bit choppy at times.

You can forward SMS texts to iPad. it's under Settings > Messages

@@NickdeBey yeah. I already have it setup, but without cellular you can only reply to other iMessage users. In order to reply to a text from someone on an Android, you need the cellular unfortunately because standard text messages still use SMS technology. :( UPDATE: you were right! I forgot to turn on continuity from my iPhone. It’s working now!

Turning on Continuity will also simpify Personal Hotspot, so if the iPad cannot get to wifi, you just have the iPad join the iPhone hotspot, now the iPad has Internet access through the iPhone. Which is why I never pay extra for a cellular capable iPad.

I did the same thing with my mini and I met the delivery guy at the door lmfaooo. I like it a lot but iPadOS is very janky because you can tell it’s not optimized for this sized screen and lower refresh rate. The padding is an example (widgets are bigger on the iPhone!) and opening the App Library is janky. Love the size and form factor, and I’m sure we’ll get an update soon. Very happy with it!

At work note taking (in meetings, to do lists, other notes)? I currently have the iPad Pro 11 inch and love it but sometimes feel that it is to big for simple note taking, I used to use a moleskin notebook. Maybe even go into apps that you find helpful? Really like the videos and appreciate your perspective on tech.

Hi! There is a toggle in the iOS 15 settings page to increase the size of the icons on the Home Screen. I have it set up on the 12.9 inch

The spacing/layout of the icons is by design I think to facilitate one handed use (more accessible for the thumb)

Wow that’s a really good point! I’ve been seeing the spacing issue mentioned in a ton of reviews and you’re the first to point this out…def makes sense so you’re thumb doesn’t hit apps when holding w/ one hand. Very insightful. Thanks!

Thanks for your honest opinion. People are chasing for specs and omitting the basic reason why we buy devices for. Refresh rate is really overkilled at the expense of battery life and cost. Some famous KZreadrs are bashing at specs and says this is a meh product. Thanks for your down to earth review.

The first iPhone I bought it was in Germany and it found the location using my GPS, but I had to setup lang and stuff on my own. Next iPhone was in UK and I had to setup some stuff but it was already assuming UK. I bought iPad and MacBook while being in Albania, which is outside the EU/UK area and I had to scroll up and down to find place, lang, etc.

The previous mini had a place to hold at either top or bottom bezel. This new one might have been scaled so its less susceptible to touch near the bezels? ..

iOS 15 is why the icon border is weird, not the iPad Mini 6. My iPad Mini 5 looks the same after I upgraded from iOS 14 to 15 a few days ago. I agree this needs to be fixed

Just got my iPad Mini and it came with “Australia” as the predetermined region. I live in New Zealand so I did have to scroll down to select it.

It’s not just the new mini. I updated my mini 5 to iOS 15 and am disappointed how small the widgets became. Literally smaller then on my iPhone 12 mini. It’s because they Increased the margins on the sides to make multiple sized widgets work with the icon grid. I hope they change this in a future update.

Space around the edge of the screen is similar to the one on the old iPad. I didn’t notice it until you point it out , a bit…feel annoyed now LOL!

Gary, couldn’t you just re-do your touch ID to include your left thumb so you can just use your iPad Mini “upside-down” portrait position? The screen automatically rotates anyways.

Hi Gary. Can you let us know if the 'padding' annoys you? I didn't like how the apps were squished together to the centre. Somehow it makes the screen looks a lot smaller. Hmm, that excess space may be a buffer to rest our fingers and to reduce unwanted activation of apps. Yes, there is already a thick bezel around the perimeter. However, iPads are used for many purposes, so better safe than sorry.
