iPad Mini (2021) One Month Later! I WAS WRONG!

Ойындар

It's been a month of use on the brand new iPad mini and I think its time to admit I was overly harsh on it when it first came out. This has turned into one of my absolute favorite devices and while I dont know that I'd recommend it for everyone I'm very impressed.
So why is that?
Lets find out!

Don’t know why everyone sees mini as “the narrow need”. I think its just the right tablet size. Bigger screens or pro ipads is where your expectation gets specific in my opinion. And thats where it renders itself unnecessary compared to laptops. But mini is just the size I was waiting for.

I grew up and used tablets of various sizes (7" through 17" and will continue to do so, but if I was forced to only choose one, it'd be something the size of the mini. It's in a sweet spot that it's big enough for nearly everything its bigger brothers do (except sidecar, IMO), but still pocketable for many pairs of guy pants. My mini 5 has kinda usurped the work tablet role from my pro 11", though now it's got competition from a 13" 2 in 1

@@reinerbazzi9744 Same! Original to the 4, and now we're up in the big leagues! Mine actually arrives today. :D It's the perfect size. I've used and gotten rid of numerous iPad pros, iphone max's, but my mini 4 was always a trooper, and I kept it around. I shattered the screen and replaced it myself - horribly. So there's a light leak on the side. lol Actually the only reason I'm upgrading it is, it's struggling to open numerous tabs. I like to line up loads of youtube vids in tabs on it, and have it nearby while I'm working. Pretty tired of waiting for pages to load. lol It's not really worth selling now, so I'll probably keep it around for a single rpg game, or some simple media content. Enjoy yours, my friend! Mine arroves today, and I've already checked the window a dozen times when I hear a vehicle passing.

I also don’t understand why they left all the wasted space on the home screen but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. Other than that I’m loving my mini so far. Its so light weight and convenient that I can do what I couldn’t easily do with my iPad 11 pro and that’s take it anywhere. I still use my 11” everyday at home, but the mini is my go to for on the go.

Personally, I think the mini and the normal iPad are tablets/notebooks, the air is a sketchbook and the pros are laptop replacements. That’s just how I see it. I hate that people compare the mini to the pro. Two very different devices made for very different people with very different needs. And I hate how people complain about the mini being mini, that’s the whole point of it. If they made the mini any bigger, it would just be a regular iPad and people would have less of a reason to buy the regular iPads. Apple wouldn’t make much money off of them anymore so it wouldn’t be smart of them to make the mini any bigger.

I have the new iPad mini and I really like it. I have noticed people complaining about the UI scaling on it, but to me it makes total sense. It's a small tablet and when you hold it in in your hand you want some space between the apps and the edge of the tablet otherwise you would unwantedly hit an app with your finger. So to me it's good that they don't extend the app positions close to the edge.

I’m lukewarm on the iPad mini, but for different reasons. I got it to supplement my iPad Pro in times when portability is useful. I find it gets hot faster than my iPad Pro and the typing experience is miserable. I do prefer Swype keyboards, so i use the tiny version instead of the full keyboard. The screen is fine and I don’t go out of my way to see jelly scrolling, so it’s a non-issue. The mini is a good tablet, but I prefer using the Pro even when the mini is more warranted, like reading in bed or when leaving the house. Granted for most people it isn’t one or the other. It would be their only iPad, so my case is a bit different.

How can someone not recommend the iPad Mini? It's the best size for gaming and everything except watching videos (and it's not bad either, just that bigger screens are better for that). The iPad Minis are so easy and light to hold. I love gaming and love the Mini 5 size more than my gorgeous 11" tab size. So I always use the Mini 5 for gaming. My 11" tab is best for movies. The iPad Mini is also my fav iPad lineup and the only ones I'll ever buy.

I love my iPad Mini 6 - it’s the perfect size for casual use. I’ve picked up reading Manga/Manhwa/Manhua online now and it’s the prefect size. Interestingly when you read that kind of stuff in a web browser the RAM can fill up quite quickly and makes the iPad start acting strangely. My workaround is there are certain ‘battery’ management apps that can flush the RAM (which is a lot quicker then restarting the iPad). But otherwise it’s really convenient to watch videos, read books (especially PDFs for education purposes) and just browse the web. Going from an OLED iPhone is that you notice it doesn’t have deep blacks, but the colours are really good so that issue quickly disappears as you immerse yourself in content :)

Except for video / streaming media consumption, the iPad mini 6 shines in portrait mode especially with iOS apps made for the iPhone, so no more awkward interfaces that work terribly with the magic keyboard, it a simple matter of rotating the screen. And, because of the lack of a physical keyboard I find myself reaching for the Apple Pencil much more than the iPad Pro model I purchased it for. The flip side of course is that there will never be an iPad mini smart or magic keyboard, and I personally wouldn’t mind that option.

I can use the mini 6 for hours now and it's absolutely fine. I did go to a store before I bought one just incase the jelly scrolling really bothered me, it didn't and it does not bother me at all, I don't even notice it. I have had the mini 6 for 3 weeks and absolutely loving it. I would highly recommend the ipad mini 6.

I have had an iPad Mini 6 since before I got my MacBook and I actually bought my MacBook specs based on my personal needs and the fact that I can use the iPad as a second screen or just use it as the standalone device it is and control it entirely from my MacBook. I have the 2020 M1 MacBook Pro 13” with the iPad Mini 6 and the portability of the two devices and how seamlessly they work together makes it such a great combo. I don’t do super heavy work on my laptop compared to what a lot of people here probably do but i did buy it based on the fact that I could still play wow on it, and being able to use my ipad as a “second screen” aka actually just using universal control, helps keep my ram free on my MacBook and i can use discord and safari and KZread all on my ipad and it uses no resources from my MacBook. The iPad Mini 6 isn’t a niche device I think it would fit more peoples needs but we’re used to the idea that bigger is always better, but I don’t think that is the case with the iPad Mini 6.

considering downsizing from the pro 12.3 to this one because ever since I have the Mac I DON'T use the iPad because it's humongous! this looks like it could do like an e book, a fun device to have by my side while I cook or on train rides or even some light note taking? my other option would be the 11 iPad Pro but I feel like I don't take any advantage of the note taking with the pencil... I'm a bit lost, what should I do

I am so glad I didn’t listen to you at all when I purchased this. It is so much better than my old iPad Air that I had and it’s going to become my go to portable device.

we need mini 5 back to be the budget iPad mini because in Canada it’s way too overpriced over the normal iPad so the mini 5 should be brought as a new iPad maybe at $225 USD or $285 CAD Features that came back in mini 5: +volume buttons at normal place +home button -smaller screen -Apple Pencil 2 support -lost a better camera

I wonder why apple didn’t just make a smaller pencil to fix the volume button issue, is it really full of tech inside the whole length of the Apple Pencil?

Just a tip I’ve found for the the volume button confusion. If you think of the sound in a horizontal mode greater and lesser. The confusion disappears 😉

I totally agree with this whole update review. Except I actually use the split keyboard, it is a bit strange and I am still getting used to it, but it is an easier reach for me. I can see slight jelly scroll if I look for it, but mostly I forget it exists. I got the iPad mini as my 11” iPad Pro M1 is too big for a lot of things and my iPhone is too small. I use the mini6 a lot as my main device. My phone is a phone and my iPad Pro is my computer. All three work really well for me.

I've considered one as a super portable editing device. Since it supports affinity photo and light room plus lumafusion. But I'm not sure if it's worth it over a zfold 3. The fold supports a pen too, it doesn't have affinity or lumafusion, but lightroom which is my main app works just as well. And it's still more portable than the mini which I would mainly be using as a daily carry to toss into my camera bag when I don't want to carry the 12.9 pro...Just not sure if the use of 2 more apps is worth having the extra device when the screen is only a bit bigger than my zfold 2 or a 3 if I upgrade. Really thinking about it.

I still don’t understand the quarrel people have with the volume buttons. If it’s in landscape, it’s up or down. If it’s in portrait, it’s left or right. And I always know where they are no matter the orientation because of either my case or where the camera is. Not that hard tbh

I feel like the iPad Mini 6 should not be compared with other iPads, because it's in a category of its own. Like the Pros are for people who want a laptop and tablet in one because they do serious stuff like video editing and so on, the Air is for people who don't need a laptop at all - but the Mini is for people who want a super portable TABLET that can go everywhere with them yet is still powerful enough to handle anything you throw at it. Like you can have a MacBook or iPad Pro and an iPhone, and also the Mini 6 that fulfills a whole use case of its own.
