Iowa RR Switching At 4 Track Crossing & Steam Locomotive 2816, The Empress, Canadian Pacific Railway

Ойын-сауық

Canadian Pacific Railway Switching At Nahant Yard, Davenport, Iowa. Flooded Streets & Steam Locomotive 2816, The Empress With Its Steam Train In Iowa. Look How Many Cars A Single Locomotive Can Move Flying Past A Railroad Crossing In LeClaire, Iowa! Have You Ever Had A Motel View Like This With Railroad Tracks Right There?! Most of this video was shot my first day there and part of it shows the steam train passing by on my second day. This is Part 1
First we see a train switching the Nahant railroad yard just south of Davenport, Iowa. The crewman can be seen switching the tracks and riding the train. The train then leaves the yard and we take a look at the flooded roads and the steam train that is sitting in the yard. I got a motel with a great view of this railroad line. That way I was guaranteed that I wouldn't miss the train on its early morning departure and I could watch a few trains pass by while I am trying to sleep. I give a quick tour of the motel room and filmed a train from the window.
On the way to the motel I filmed a northbound train pulled by a single locomotive. 3 trains passed during the night. I heard them on 160.770 and they use another frequency when they get past here. I forgot what it is so I will look it up and add it.
This video is mainly just for the railway shunting and to show my motel room at the Holiday Inn Express in LeClaire. Michelle at the front desk got me the room with the best view of the tracks. I noticed that people are requesting the other side of the building with the river view so getting a railroad view is easy and the parking lot on this side has plenty of empty spots. Win win.
I included the steam train in this video to show what I came to Iowa to film. This is a once in a lifetime event. The steam train is setting all kinds of records. The train left Canada a couple months earlier after running on its tracks across Canada. It then ran on their tracks all the way across the United States and into Mexico on their tracks down there. The train ran in 3 countries and it was on its final leg of the run back to Canada when I filmed it. The locomotive is 94 years old and is an oil burner. It was retired in 1960 and ran for a decade on tourist trains from about 2001 to 2011. It ran again in 2023 and is being used on the one year anniversary of the merger of Canadian Pacific Railway and Kansas City Southern Railroad to form the CPKC. There will be more on this steam train in my other videos. I will also have a video of Iowa Interstate Railroad crossing an 1895 bridge across the Mississippi River.
Filmed Sunday and Monday, June 30 and July 1, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

I enjoyed watching the switching at the Canadian Pacific's Nahant Yard (former Milwaukee Road property) in Davenport, Iowa, Jaw Tooth! That was a wonderful motel room for train watching that you had at the Holiday Express Inn in LeClaire, Iowa. You were able to capture a Canadian Pacific manifest train from your motel room window as it passed. Nice catch of the CP 2816 coming around that curve and then passing your location. When the 2816 went south to Kansas City, Missouri on its way to Mexico, it did not have locomotive 7013 with it. The helper diesels on the southbound train to Kansas City had the F units in the videos that I saw. This trackage that the 2816 is running on is former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad trackage. This was part of the Milwaukee Road's line to Kansas City. Two very nice runbys in good light and the auto and people filter worked very well. Their OCS now right up there with the other major railroads in the US. While you are certainly in the agricultural area that train being assembled is for a large electric Arc furnace Mill in nearby Montpelier and according to news reports you missed a runaway there by 2 days. This area does host a fair number of older non-modified CP\SOO\ICE flat cars and gondolas. Indeed a single unit on a roll lugging back empty Frac sand cars. Distillers grain cars.Tank cars for corn oil or syrup Maybe even ethanol and just like Cincinnati a gondola salute. PS. Sorry the view at the yard was blocked. It never fails those are the two most likely cars you'd see in Iron Mountain visiting Jason

Nice video, JT. I love the CP color scheme. The steam train looks great and I love the sound of a steam whistle. I love to watch trains but my wife thinks I'm nuts. She grew up in a house that backed up to the SP mainline that ran South from Sacramento down California's central valley - a rail fans dream location. Her father and uncles work for SP after WWII doing track repair. He walked out the back door and climbed up to the tracks to catch a passing train to go to work. Talk about a short commute.

Hey, Jaw Tooth! Good video, Brian! I was awestruck at all the CP cars on that train at Nahant! That was a lot of scrap and empty steel cars! Going to one mill? That train with one unit had 177 cars; I’m assuming they were all empty. It looked suspiciously like it could have been a storage train. I’m hoping not. There seemed to be a lot of rust on the trucks, instead of road grime, like on cars in regular service. I know business is down and a lot of cars are being stored around the country. Especially two bay CH’s that were in sand service. My son lives in New Castle, IN. The short line that serves it has miles of Railbox box cars stored. Most of them are of the high cube variety, which are newer cars than the regular type that was built in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. That blew my mind! We were driving out of New Castle towards the south east. I saw them for myself. I thought they would never stop! They have stored auto racks, there, also. I haven’t seen them, lately. Great footage of the steamer, also! And the pets! Thanks again, for the video!

Another great video JT and I’m like you I love them old steam engines right before Norfolk and southern merge together southern used to have one that ran from New Orleans to Birmingham Alabama and they would run it about once every 2 to 3 months and that old engineer that ran it, buddy, he could make cold shield stand up on your arms the way he blowed that whistle I used to love to watch it come through my little town of Pearl River Louisiana but anyway, my friend you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one and happy Fourth of July JT

Hey jaw tooth rail yards are always fun to watch. Something is always moving on one track or another one. Wonder why they put a crossing by a busy yard. If I stayed in hotel I'd definitely make sure to get room by tracks also. Keep the videos coming son . Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋‍♀️

In 1989 I rode on an excursion train from Vancouver, BC, pulled by a similar engine. Not sure if it was the same engine, but I’m pretty sure it was also a 4-6-4. Definitely had 6 drive wheels.
