Liked the hard working hill drama. Sounds like the faulty lead engine might've been built by Boeing😊. There's a lot that happens in todays' diesels between the output from the alternator and the taction motors. 3 phase AC comes off of the alternator, is then converted to DC for more precise speed control and then back to AC with either square, sawtooth or sine wave form depending on the loading. Any issue in any of these steps causes problems. Excellent video, liked it a lot. Thanks JT!

4003 dpu on the last train is a heritage unit i last saw it in Logansport Indiana last week. 😊

I am fairly certain that 4003 is not classified as a Heritage unit. It is an engine that was converted from DC to AC that received a special paint job.

Interesting radio communication on the second train. I wouldn't have known about that problem without your radio. I'm surprised the dispatcher had the information on the locomotive. Things have changed since my Dad dispatched trains in the 50's and 60's.

The sound of the 5 locomotives is awesome. I keep playing it over with my headphones on. The power and the authority it excudes is just amazing.

The mixed freight to open was a fabulous train, JT! 5 locomotives leading plus a mid-train DPU. I think I would have given the DPU some help from the lead power as hard as it was working, but I don't put trains together. It had a great mix of freight, including a car of heavy plate steel. I love that! Great catch! 😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤

6:20 "Wow, that was loud, holy cow" - it might be cool to have a decibel app to show us how loud.

Those locomotives were working harder than a one armed roofer in a windstorm. Harder than a one legged ditch digger. But not quite as hard as JT.

Awesome catches! And that radio chatter about the problems with that locomotive was awesome, and rare. I was listening to my scanner one day while rail fanning St. Albans WV on the main line, and there was radio chatter from the CSX crew talking to a maintenance crew about brake problems on a locomotive. I imagine it was to do with the air brakes, probably had a busted line, and they couldn’t build air to release the brakes. At the end of it, one of them said “Thank you General Motors!” Lol and that indicated to me that this was an EMD locomotive they were dealing with lol.

Norfolk southern railroad 4003 is a beautiful locomotove

you get excited when you see CPKC. i get excited when i see CSX + NS here in Canada!

The CPKC/NS train was great.

Well JT you made it right to the wreck and then they shut down the traffic on you a few more cars than you would’ve made it past it but anyway another great video my friend and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one

Don't know if you know but.....La Grange Kentucky has a track right down the middle of their business district. Sometimes people back out of a parking space right into the train. Other times they don't get out of the way and are pushed out of the way. Always fun to watch. Virtual Railfan. I love your videos.

@@JawTooth I'm no longer licensed anymore for amateur radio there were too many clowns and politics in my local area up in the Upper Midwest in Wisconsin that kept digging around and jamming the hell out of my Transmissions so then they decided to steal my call sign and blame it on me when they were doing all this stuff I recently found that out I wish I would have known that a long time ago but sometimes it's a while before it comes to surface

The DPU 4003 has a different paint style than I've ever seen. Look at time stamp 24:54

Yes, that is one of the first DC to AC units. I'm not sure how many were painted like that but not many

Geat catch but whoever plans these long heavy should be made on one to see just how much sress and strain the put on the engines and the knucles on the cars

I'm guessing that first loco was a GE from that distinctive powerboat sound, and the ones right behind it were EMD? Great audio as always, even with a little "wind burn" on the mic. Keep up to good work, JT!

Another awesome video, of course, but - HA!! Your traffic there in the greater Cincinnati area - at times - isn't much different from the daily grind here in the greater Los Angeles area where I'm based. Accidents will indeed cause huge backups especially around rush-hours. Being retired, I avoid getting into it as much as humanly possible!! 😁

It would be good to know what you use to record the trains such as the camera and the devise used to allow you to spin the camera around so fast and accurately center it on the train and you. Enjoy your videos and stay safe.
