Train Crossing HUGE DOUBLE DECKER 1896 Bridge Iowa Interstate Railway Over Flooded Mississippi River

Ойын-сауық

Train With 3 Locomotives Crosses A Gigantic Railroad Bridge! The Iowa Interstate Railroad Train Goes Over The Flooded Mississippi River On A 130 Year Old Government Bridge Or Arsenal Bridge. The Railroad Tracks Are On Top & A Road Goes Under Them On The Lower Level! A Canadian Pacific Railway Train, Now CPKC, Goes Under The Bridge & We See The Bridge And Builders Plate Up Close.
The Mississippi River Is Up Due To Recent Rains and roads are flooded near here. Look how wide the river is! I wanted to film the bridge for a video and I got lucky when an Iowa Interstate Railroad train passed over it from Davenport, Iowa to Rock Island, Illinois. The bridge goes to the Rock Island Arsenal which is a military island. I rode a steam train ( #4449 ) over this bridge years before I started my channel. The bridge has road traffic on the bottom level and 2 railroad tracks on the top level.
Right after I filmed the train I ran into KZreadr @Jason Asselin. We filmed the bridge which is very interesting. When we were filming it a Canadian Pacific Kansas City ( CPKC ) train ran under us as it was heading south down the river banks. This train came off the spur that enters the main line at East Davenport. I saw this train sitting on the curved bridge earlier waiting to enter the main line. I was really lucky to get this train because the industrial spur that the train came off of only has a few customers including the Davenport Industrial Railroad. The line was recently extended several miles. See Google Maps.
Both trains were lucky catches. I came here to film the steam locomotive called The Empress. I got these freight trains and some other freight trains that will be posted soon. I will post a lot of coverage of the steam train so check back often.
Don't miss The Live Action Pets at the end and the slide show that comes from the video.
Filmed Sunday, June 30, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!
Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

Welcome to Iowa. That bridge passes by the Rock Island Arsenal. The other end of the bridge has a swing span to let barge traffic through Lock and Dam #15. I’ve been on the bridge in my car with a stopped train overhead waiting on the span to close. I can’t count the number of times that I have used this bridge. I live just north of Davenport. Glad you were able to get some videos in the Quad Cities area last week.

JT, it’s a tale of two summers when it comes to the Mississippi river this year. Last year there were many stories of the water being dangerously low that boats had a hard time coming up river Now this year, the upper Midwest has been getting slammed by rain, which has just cascaded down and filled the river up extremely high. Great videos and catches on your trip to Iowa. Keep up the great work.

Wow! Across the river in Rock Island Illinois, was the all mighty Farmall plant, where International Harvester built the famous Farmall tractor from 1923-1985. They shipped finished tractors out of the plant by rail a lot. I’m not sure what railroad got it, but I think the plant even had its own yard, and switcher locomotives, for moving empty flat cars, and loaded flat cars with tractors on it, to build a train. Then the railroad that got it as a customer would come and the whole train. They were a huge customer for that railroad. It very well could’ve been Illinois Interstate Railroad that got them. And then in the neighboring city on across from Rock Island was Moline Illinois, where the John Deere plant was, and they too shipped tractors out of there by rail, so those two plants where the No.1 and No.2 farm equipment manufacturers in the whole country. It would’ve been interesting to rail fan that area back in the day when all that farm equipment was going out. And even after the plants shut down for good, it would’ve been interesting to check out the old yard, and railroad branch lines that serviced the plants to see how they done it!

Mr. Tooth, sir, you are indeed a master train video man! What a beautiful video of that bridge across the Mississippi in Davenport, Iowa and across into Illinois...what a video, Brian! You catch the late day low sunlight perfectly and the shots are totally magical! The river is flowing so fast and it adds so much to the bridge, the train and everything is in the beginning of the sunset...just amazing! The river is flowing very fast and you can see it in the video...rushing past the bridge pylons. The riven is blue at first and as the sun sets and the clouds turn pinkish, so does the river. That other train coming underneath also makes this an amazing video. Thanks, Brian. You can sure tell the quality of your videos because of how much you are amazed at seeing what you share in your videos. Love the filming of the bridge and your commentary. Entertaining and informative, Brian. :)

You lucked out at the Arsenal Bridge from Davenport, Iowa to Rock Island Arsenal and Rock Island, Illinois when that Iowa Interstate Railroad manifest train came over the bridge, Jaw Tooth! The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad used this bridge in the past. That bridge connects the south end of Rock Island Arsenal to Davenport and Rock Island. There is also an entrance to Rock Island Arsenal on the north end of the Island. Near the North Entrance is the Rock Island Military Cemetery. There is a section of the military cemetery that contains the bodies of Civil War soldiers. You also caught another break when that Canadian National Kansas City train passed under the Arsenal Bridge to head south to Kansas City, Missouri on former Milwaukee Road trackage. I find that bridge interesting because the railroad is above the road, whereas the opposite is usually true. Highway traffic was not being allowed on it, perhaps because of flooding? Ralph Modjeski, credited on the sign, designed a lot of bridges.

While the bridge doesn't have the long Viaduct lead like Kenova does you had succes with a train over and under. Sadly since the demise of the Rock Island the freight volume over the bridge isn't what it once was but their power and paint scheme helps make up for it. Also at one time the lower level hosted the local streetcar system. Of course thanks for taking the close-ups of the bridge signs as it has some unique history

Wow!! 1895-96 bridge. Man the horns echoing so coool. Nice shot JT! That Bridge structure was quite something back omygosh over a century! It kind of reminds of a double decker in FT Madison Iowa about 90 mi. south on the ole mississip. I like their live shot on virtual rainfan bcz they zoom in on the trains as it curve around i think you would really enjoy it. Your power walk made it!👍I like your cat she's something else lol and the dogs like her too!🐈‍⬛ We had a calico named garfield lol and a mix lab named Brandy they got along so well to! But Garfield at times would say..I like my space..lol..just like the cartoon character😂 have a blessed holiday be safe JT..oh I've seen those Iowa interstate go through here in Ottawa, Morris Joliet IL. Cities east of Davenport. I like the black and red with some yellow on their locomotives pretty cool. Take care🌎🎛🚦

Davenport. Birthplace of Bix Beiderbecke--a Jazz musician from long ago. Every year I go there for the Festival named after him. The line that goes along the river is the former Milwaukee Road. Last time I was there it was run by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern with a lot of CP power. There's a swing bridge further down the river. If you drove your car into the parking area where then riverfront park is you drove on Beiderbecke Drive.

After watching this whole video and it finally came back to me. It would have been in 50s. For some reason my parents and I spent the nite in Davenport. My dad was a section foman for Milwaukee Road about 40 miles west of here. He insisted that we walk across the bridge. About half way across K got scared and insisted we turn back. I was scared of heights . Now I know why it was so familiar.

To think in 1896, the lower portion of the bridge was for horse drawn wagons and carriages.
