There are so many incorrect assumptions in these comments. I feel the need to do some educating. First off, this is my dog. Uma is a wonderful dog and loves all the attention she is getting! Secondly, she is NOT a mutt or a “miniature” German Shepherd. The title of the video was meant to be a joke. I’ve read so many comments from people who obviously didn’t watch the video. They just saw the title and decided to post rude, ignorant comments. Thirdly, Swedish Vallhunds are a very ancient breed. They are what is known as a “primitive” dog breed. They often traveled with Vikings. This breed came WAY WAY before German Shepherds. Uma is incredibly well bred and her father was even at Westminster competing for Best of Breed this year. Please, before any of you comment something dumb, please actually watch and listen to Vanessa’s accurate description of the breed.

It upsets me that so many owners often skip basic training with smaller dogs and let them get away with poor behavior because they’re “cute and harmless.” Uma is great representation of how well mannered and polite little dogs can be with proper training 🙌🏻

He loves his stuffed animal, which is a dolphin that's more than two thirds his size, and he carries it around all over the house. He'll even go and get it when we're about go down to the basement, and then he'll throw it down the stairs before he starts walking down himself. As someone from Sweden, I appreciate you for spotlighting this breed of dog as it sadly has been overlooked by most people, even in my home country thanks to the popularity of the Corgi. That being said, most people I have seen with this dog, have it as a working dog first and family dog second so as someone who never had this dog myself, anyone who’s interested in this breed might have to keep in mind for their high exercise demand compared to other breeds of similar size. But then again, I have never encountered one who has not been an angel so take all of my opinion with a grain of salt.

It is possible to have a working dog as a pet and have them be happy, I just think most people underestimate how much effort and cost goes into making the dog happy and well-adjusted. It helps to have a large yard and lots of interactive toys, but the owner should be prepared to train regularly with their working dog for mental stimulation and taking them to doggie daycare a couple of times a week can be really helpful. Agility can also be helpful. Can’t stress enough how important it is to keep them mentally stimulated!!

@@Reina.Nijinsky I have seen her talk about mutts or mixed breeds on this channel before and often times she goes into the different breed components of those mixes. She has also groomed dogs such as Pitt bulls who have negative stereotypes around them and are often in shelters. I personally love mutts and volunteer weekly at my local county shelter so I understand where you are coming from, but she is a content creator so she probably grooms more dogs than she shows and picks ones that will make new content. But who knows? I would love to see more mix breeds on her channel too they are often gorgeous dogs!

All breeds come to be "their own breed" due to animal husbandry - humans breeding dogs to have specific genetic characteristics. There are no "pure bred" domesticated dogs in the wild. ALL domesticated dogs have been manipulated by humans - all of them. If they had not, there would be no dogs. Some characteristics that have been bred into a breed are detrimental to the breed; most are not. I bring this up because a common sentiment seems to be the "evils of breeding." Breeding isn't evil. Breeding is why she introduces every dog as this or that breed; there would be no domesticated dogs without breeding, they would all be feral. It's dumb to cry that a breed was bred to be smaller woth shorter legs, when in fact that is exactly what some terriers and other dogs WERE bred for. There is responsible animal husbandry, and there is irresponsible animal husbandry. And people need to learn the distinction, because without animal husbandry/selective breeding, there would be NO domestic dogs.

"I iz smol but mighty" -- Uma, chomping on the tug toy. 😅 She's gotta be one of the cutest breeds ever! This is my first intro to this adorable breed! Looks like a GSD, but "fun-sized," so better for ppl who find Shepherds intimidating to be around, but still want an outdoor workout buddy that may not require as much food. I mean let's be real: GSDs or any larger breed require those biiiig bags of food. That has to be figured in with the other costs of having a fur-friend. This on top of feeding yourself and your human family. I know this topic seems like a "downer," but how many animal friends of any size get surrendered to shelters because the humans didn't run the numbers first? That's unfair for the animal who wants a fur-ever home, and unfair for the humans who want the companionship. This is why I love it that Vanessa tells us how much a groom job costs. 😊 I, at least, would want to know what I am getting into.

God, Uma ticks all the boxes that I love about Corgis down to the wiggle butt and being a loving ray of quirky comedic sunshine. It's crazy how old her breed is, Corgis are no spring chicken of a breed either but Valhunds go SO far back and yet they still maintain their distinctness.
