This is actually really cool and useful. Nicely done! Having fun with the NABU computer and offering up more ways to enjoy the computers is a win in my book. Again great job!

Don't use chrome on my end, but I am aware of the web serial API that chrome supports. This is super neat what you did here taking advantage of that. Awesome work!

Interesting! I don't use Chrome on a daily basis, but I'll have to try this on my old Chromebook (which I also don't use very often anymore, but it still works!). 🙂

Hopefully it's not so old that it doesn't support Web Serial.

Cool! I tried using my pixel3a with USBC to USBA adapter but sadly android chrome didn't want to recognize the serial port.

Thanks for testing that. It would be pretty neat to run off of a phone, but Android would have to support the WebSerial API. Hmm, actually it might be possible with this polyfill: github.com/google/web-serial-polyfill. I'll have to see if I have the hardware to test it out.

Any way this can be a simple added to chrome extension?

Not quite sure I understand. What would the extension do?

@@ChrisMasto well, when I tried using a chrome box with your webpage it isn’t recognizing the usb adapter. I’d assume the extension could be added to chrome so when it’s plugged in it’s recognized. If that’s not possible it’s fine I’m just experimenting and seeing if this would be possible.

@@RetroTechy It doesn’t need an extension, it should just work. There must be something else going on, maybe the adapter isn’t compatible with Chrome OS or you have USB permissions disabled.

@@ChrisMasto yeah I’m thinking it’s chrome os itself. Any tips 😆

@@RetroTechy I use Chrome OS extensively, so I know it's definitely supported. The comment margin in KZread is a difficult place to have a long conversion, maybe we want to move this to Discord or forums.nabu.ca. But the first thing I would check is to click the lock to the left of nabu.run in the address bar and make sure it doesn't have "USB devices" turned off. You can also check in settings - Privacy and Security - Site Settings - Additional Settings - USB devices, and make sure you have it set to allow sites to ask to connect to USB devices. If that's not it, is your Chromebox still supported and up to date? If it's very old, it could predate when Chrome added USB support. What does chrome://version say? Finally, if you are using some obscure USB adapter, it might just be that there's no driver for it. You can't add drivers to Chrome OS, but I know that it at least supports the DTech adapter that most of us have been using, and a lot of others I have experimented with.
