This video's got a number of great ideas, like the taskbar widgets at 0:52, or file tagging, though it also has a few not so great ones - like the pie context menu, which looks pretty, but that would take away much of the usability the current context menu provides. All in all, a great concept!

Well, r/unixporn haa a bunch of images of actual systems with amazing widget stuff. Regarding file tagging: the best way to implement this would be on a file system level but eh. There are some virtual file systems that use different approaches but all of them suck imo.

I happen to love the pie menu. I'm someone who doesn't merge their taskbar icons because it adds such a small but irritating extra step to my workflow when switching between tasks. With the pie menu, you're always one little wrist flick away from common options. Flick up and you do X, flick right and you do Y. Once your muscle memory is there, it would actually be a much more efficient way of getting around the OS.

@@minikame2272 One problem I had with the context menu is that there's only icons. Sure maybe you know what they mean immediately, but a new user might not, and even then I think copy & paste look too similar for this to be intuitive. Maybe that's already fixed by adding mouseover tooltips, but imo a real implementation MUST give you the option to display the text alongside the icons. Sure it breaks the circularity a bit... you could still have it in a curve to the right or sth. Or just go with the rectangular design. Heck make it so all of these are options you can pick from!

@@ilonachan I guess it comes down to target DPI. On a 4k display, having little labels beneath each to induct new users gently would be a totally unobtrusive compromise, but at 1080p or even 1440p, it's like you say

This is next level concept. This animations were soooo fluid. I love how he integrated Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android. Windows multitasking, MacOS dock. Plus he added his own design for the context menus, it's superb. He literally designed a files app, settings app, notes app, messages app, start menu, widgets, multitasking view, icons, cursor, wallpapers, etc. This is amazing. Appreciate how much effort is went into this. ❤️❤️❤️

Of course, it’s only a concept. If he did release his on OS based on this concept, we would be sued to oblivion. It would be Linux based, and have no similarities to macOS or windows or he would be sued. Don’t get your hopes up

Holy sh*t. This might be the best thing you've done to date. The in-Window Multitasking or splitting it up in tabs, the drag-and-drop to multiple programs, it's just beautiful. This would be so nice to have as an actual OS

You can actually get this feature on pop os with tiling but it's not as beautiful like in the video

I'm not even lying, this is soo damn cool. Like, you know, you see in movies, how future would be, this is the first step in it. The level of multitasking and different options is just insane. I'm just an instant fan of this. Really looking forward to try it💓

Deepin Linux is the closest one. The desktop environment (or called "flavor") is also available for Ubuntu and Manjaro

Dude, that looks amazing... it vaguely reminds me of dahliaOS, but your icon design and its color palette is exceptional! Honestly, you can create AvdanOS as a Linux distro and design it the way you like and envision it, with 0 compromises. You're really talented and it would be awesome for everyone to enjoy your work!

@Efe Hasırcıoğlu, good point! However, "İşlevsellik" in this context was used more like pointing at the workflow, not if the OS is functional or not. You would make an OS working only through a serial console and still use the word "İşlevsellik" in context of functionality. But when you put consistency in mind, then you need to consider productivity there, not functionality.

This is one video I wouldn't mind endlessly running on loop to keep finding easter eggs in that over and over again. Love the concept and I honestly hope this becomes a reality soon. Keep rising mate

I can't imagine how much you taked your time to think how to combine app dock, status bar, start button with search and multitasking icons and widgets into one single ultimate multitasking dock and the whole concept idea itself! Absolutely gorgeous. The careful animation, subtle design details are incredible. The level of customisation (corner radius, theme, button style) is next-level, and the overall design and modular nature of the dock is so innovative. Finally, the multitasking features, like the in window tabs and split window, or the easily accessible split screen buttons are so useful.

I love all that you do from designing to creating concepts, and you really inspired me to create a real OS software that you can download and install on your computer, and I thought you would like this idea, so I started working on that project and made good progress, just want to thank you for inspiring me!

What can I say but, I love basically all of this! Especially your idea to basically have every floating window be its own little i3-like tiling WM, that's something I haven't seen before at all! The bottom bar looks so awesome atleast that HAS to become real! And file tagging is a feature that Linux totally supports, but strangely I'm not seeing in any of the commonly used file managers... maybe we should all make a feature request for the big ones like dolphin, nemo, nautilus, thunar etc (why tf are they all sea puns?!)

right? this is what we need, let this year be the year of linux even if it was based on another well known distro it would be amazing say the support of the og users with modern and just works GUI everything like windows- but very customizable edit: the only thing that i can find to be a problem would be grouping applications- but also doubt it would be that much of a problem

it really would!! and man id love to be able to use the desktop environment on my gentoo install if the desktop environment were to be open source, kinda has the aesthetics of deepin and kde which i really like lol (i might theme my kde desktop to look similar to this actually...) linux also just really needs a more stable and user-friendly user interface anyway, so itd be a huge step forward for us!

What’s more is that this could feasibly be done just as its own desktop environment that could be on its own distro or any other. Something familiar to new users but with a great flow.

We need avdanOS Linux distro, avdanOS android launcher, and avdanOS icon pack. Mostly joking about the distro and launcher but will pay money for icon pack lol

Whoa, there is a lot to unpack here It all looks and feels stunning! Incredible! Uhm... Inspiring! The one idea I really like would be that browser tab-like titlebars functionality for windows The other thing that inspired me was the Launcher (Start menu) - it's just so neatly laid out! Take that, Microsoft! I could go on about the dock though - and I will! Clever idea making it a dock rather than a taskbar - that way, individual widgets can simply float on the screen! One minor thing though... how to handle overflow? Finally, the personalization is just plain incredible! I'm wowed! The things I personally can't see being useful would be those wheel context menus and then the side-by-side window snapping (outside of fullscreen snap groups) - as cool as they look, I don't think they'd be practical - but let me know (everyone) if you agree or not in replies Finally, I think we can take a lot of inspiration from this concept - even though turning it into actual software will require significant amount of R&D, the base is there Great; nay, awesome job, Avdan!

Maybe that design of context menus is so that the cursor is the same distance from each item, improving efficiency.

@@FacuA0 It may be a little bit more efficient, it would look cluddered and be a little confusing if you’re not familiar with the icons, and would look inconsistent with the rest of the design. Going for a simple menu would have been better in my opinion. No need to reinvent the wheel.

@@FacuA0 i feel like they'd be a great help for use in tablets as whenever I longpress and select a text , the context menu appears below my fingers and is hard to spot , so maybe if you have a 2 in 1 laptop it'd be the best context menu design to date

You can do this quite easily with KDE

You know, if you modded KDE enough, and provided some software to go with this, you might just have the best operating system to date. This would be awesome as a Linux distribution. But this absolutely is the cleanest operating system I have never seen.

I think this would require a new OS entirely. Like don't get me most Linux bases (Like Debian, Arch, whatever) could replicate the LOOK of it, it's the feeling that would be difficult. For example 1:34, having any windows be pinned or tabbed into another would require developer support I'd imagine. Sure you may be able to hack it into unsupported programs but then it might not function great.

@@tobilinz_ Yes I know what a DE is, I'm saying a step above that I don't think a preexisting OS, regardless of DE, wouldn't be able to replicate the feeling. For example if you made this theoretical OS based on Debian on a completely custom Desktop Environment you'd have to assume that all developers running APT or even plain DEB would add support for the new DE for things like tabbing. Basically my point being is that the system would work fine with default stuff but the second you try installing third party programs the whole experience would fall apart and you'd see the fallback theme and windows that break the UI more and more.

The applications themselves can already accommodate, they're doing nothing more than resizing the window and adjusting their screen location just like they can already do if you moved them around on their own.

@@dIancaster Well with 1:34 (Which I would call grouping vs tabbing or snapping) I think it would be possible but getting it look and function nice may be hard especially due to the mass amounts of apps that use the titlebar for more then just the window name and buttons; but I more so mean at 2:00 where you basically have browser tabs for any program. That would be super great for productively but I think it would be very difficult to program in a way that makes it look nice outside of the default programs.

Böyle bir fikrin havada kalması(şu anlık olsada) beni üzdü. Ama eminim bunu projeyi start up olarak yayımlar sunumlar seminerler yaparsanız kesinlikle ama kesinlikle yatırım alacağına eminim. Ben ilk gördüğümde kesinlikle bunu pc me kurmalıyım dedim. Yani yatırımcı bulamasanız bile tr yazılımcılar olarak hep birlikte bu projeyi geliştirmek için gönüllü olarak sizinle yürürüz diye düşünüyorum. Kim istemez ki bizde os yapalım. Dediğim gibi ben arkanızdayım bir ihtiyaç olursa yazın lütfen ve bu projeyi süratle hayata geçirin başarılar dilerim.

yalnız linux distrolar pek para kazandırmaz ve pardus olduğundan bunu pek gerekli görmeyebilirler, sıfırdan da işletim sistemi yazmayacağınızı da düşünüyorum linux varken. Ve linux toplumunda buna benzer çok şey var, hatta bundan daha da fazla şeyler var. Mesela bu videonun içermediği "workspace"ler linux distrolarında türlü şekilde yönetilebiliyor, pencere "butonları" bile değiştirilebiliyor ve gtk sayesinde temaları destekliyor. Birsürü linuxta olmayan güzel özelliller olsa da bu videoda, bazı özellikler de aslında işi zorlaştırabilir(gereğinden fazla animasyon gibi). Yani güzel kosept olsa da para kazanılabilecek çok bir planı olmaz, Linux ortamına uydurulmazsa çok tercih edilmez ve fazla işlemci kullanabilir.

Evet daha artısı olan linux dağıtımları mevcut ama farkında olmalıyız ki bu proje daha bitmedi bile her geçen gün üstüne bir şeyler ekleniyor. Yarın birgün ki yeni versiyonunda ne gibi vaatlerde bulunacağı belli olmaz. Ve ayrıca bu projenin herhangi bir linux etribute undan olması bunun küçük sayılabilecek kitleler üzerinde etki yapacağının bariz kanıtı. Windows veya MacOs gibi dev yapılarla rekabet edebilmesi için kendi altyapısıyla , kendi geliştirdiği alternatif yollarla öne çıkması gerek. Pardusa gelecek olursak yıllardır "yerli os" denilmesine rağmen arayüz tasarımı veya genel kullanım deneyiminin kullanıcı dostu olmadığına inanıyorum. Tübitak ın bu projede pek haz verecek seviyede olduğunuda düşünmüyorum. Yani özünde bu proje sıfırdan kullanıcı dostu , göründüğü gibi şık arayüzlü ve kullanıcıları kendine çekecek avantajlara ihtiyacıı var ki bunların olacağından da eminim.

Only piece of feedback I have, is to not hang on certain interactions for too long in some feature showcases. There’s a screen introducing the feature that’s only a quick second and showcasing the feature in action takes too long. Great job overall though 👏

Avdan it would be neat if you could share assets for the creation of the os! Also for further work on the Linux distro it would be great to work together with you so we can figure out the details but of course you don’t have to. Really? What are you going to use to make it? QT, GTK or flutter? There is pangolin desktop in works. It would be better to improve that by taking inspiration from here.

KDE does something very similar, but it's based on a toolkit that is licensing issues incarnate.

How do you make these?

Watching this made me excited, but also sad that such an amazing OS doesn't already exist. Hopefully someone with crazy linux dev skills sees this I guess!

This is fantastic!!! I used to do a bit of animation in After Effects, and I know the amount of heavy work it takes to make 3d animations like this. This video was definitely worth the wait, and I love it so much. I cannot wait to see future concepts from your channel!

Actually you can customize existing DE(Desktop Environment)s in linux like KDE to look & feel similar to this concept also you can write yourself or customize a WM (window manager) for window/tab splitting as in the video too

@@prajwalrajbasnet9019 Yeah, I would probably make a DE just for AvdanOS because I feel that customizing an existing one would not give us the same outcome. While I don't know any other languages aside Lua and Javascript as of now, I'd be very happy to help with an open source project for recreating AvdanOS. And I'd be willing to learn the stuff required.

Deepin Linux and UbuntuDDE (Ubuntu with Deepin desktop environment) are the closest ones to this concept, you may try it

That's very cool! Made me think about the different colored folders. Some operations may delete or move or change folders in a way that the OS will believe it is a new folder, changing the color somewhat randomly (to the user). To fix that, you can assign a simple math operation to calculate a number from 1 to 16 (assuming there are 16 folder colors) from the folder's name! That way, every folder with a specific name will have the same color, everywhere 🤯! And we still keep the beautiful aesthetic 😊.

To bad this doesn't exist.... Yet? Hope to see this in the future, this is madness! Great job!!!

I am an Linux Operating Systems developer. Like not very experienced but i know most. I would like your permission to make this into reality. This is by far the most gorgeous OS I have seen. And some of the features like right click and file management is absolutely perfect. Would really like to do this as my next project.

This concept beats ALL the OSs today. I’m saying this again, somebody REALLY needs to make this masterpiece a reality (Not just a simple Linux-based theme, a *real, separate* OS)

i think it would be more easy to make a desktop environment like this, that would be fun. A separate OS would be great and more loved since its harder to make but would be really hard driver-wise. Still if someone wants to make an entire OS, they are welcome.
