[Intro] Repurposing a Damaged Vintage Quilt into an Extra Large Tote Bag

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Folks have been asking for a HUGE tote--so here it is! I call it the Kitchen Sink Tote, and it's perfect for the beach, the market, an overnight...
This is a light weight tote, and I purposely used a vintage summer weight quilt and 10oz pre-shrunk canvas (that feels lighter than a typical 10oz canvas). I get my canvas at Big Duck Canvas (here's the link for the 10oz 60" wide canvas I used in this video: www.bigduckcanvas.com/10-oz-c...)
If you want to make your own, I'll be publishing step-by-step instructions soon (stay tuned).

Thank you so much! I have two older quilts. One was my MIL and one was my Aunt’s. We just didn’t need them and husband said get rid of them but it didn’t feel right. Then I Googled and your video came up! I’m not an accomplished sewer but I’m confident I can do this project. Thankfully neither quilt is damaged. I’ll make as many bags as i can and pass them on to grands and cousins. Thank you so much!

I'm thinking of doing the same with a salvaged quilt but had no idea where to start so thank you for posting this project; especially the repairs. I believe the maker of this quilt would be very pleased with your work also.

thanks for the video. I have a few old quilts and I'm looking for ideas of how to use. Like yours, some patching will be needed.

Love the yellow quilted shirt you are wearing! Do you have a pattern for that too?

Thanks! This was a gift from a friend-she made all the log cabin blocks from fabric we used sewing together, lined them and then sewed a shirt from it. There’s no pattern, but you could try the same technique using a simple shirt pattern you love.
