Into the Clouds: Sitka Blacktail Deer | S1E01 | MeatEater
Спорт
Steven Rinella charters a float plane to drop him off on a remote lake in Alaska’s coastal rainforest for a solo Sitka blacktail deer hunt. Challenging terrain, thick fog, and rain won't make it easy--but it could be worth a camp meal of tenderloin. Check out the MeatEater Podcast for more from Steve and the MeatEater Crew. "Hunting involves missing" honesty is what makes this the only realistic hunting show ever.

Yeah surely, if you're running around shooting at tiny Blacktail 350 yards away. I love and envy your freedom to hunt on your own in the americas, but you aren't always living up to the responsibility that follows with it. In Scandinavia we don't tolerate wounding animals, we'll bring in dogs to finish the job. Shooting at beyond 200 yards is frowned upon (and frankly shooting rather than hunting), and missing is shameful because you could just as well shoot it's jaw off and doom it to weeks of pain.

@@stefflus08 the black tail hunt in this video, I don't think you can realistically do with a bow. And no one is ENTITLED to anything. Work for what you want. What I am saying is that some places are different then where you hunt in your country. And require differences in the hunt.

Other commenters have touched on this, but the beauty of this show, is that it’s real. He shows the misses, the bad hits, the guilt and anger you feel as a hunter. And the overall struggle that makes the experiences and success worth it. Show’d my girlfriend, who’s never hunted, doesn’t have a single family member immediate or extended that hunts or fishes. And she loved the show, and has a new found respect for the sport!!! That’s all because of how well put together these episodes are, and how eloquently Steve describes all aspects of hunting!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT HERE.
The first reason I love this show is because I was raised to hunt for my family not my wall and it’s good to see a guy on a show who doesn’t only trophy hunt. I’ve been retired for over a decade now from hunting due to personal reasons but I’m itching to get back into it!!!
Thanks for uploading this. Not sure how else I would’ve watched it.

Try watching the hunting public a lot more entertaining gun hunting is very boring. I go gun hunting to its very boring bowhunting is a lot more entertaining to watch.
For all those concerned about flying and hunting on the same day...from page 19 of the 2020-2021 Alaska Hunting Regulations guide: "You may hunt deer the same day airborne (provided you are 300 feet from the airplane)." Could have been different 10 years ago but I'm pretty sure Rinella knows his stuff in regards to the regs.

I love that the show has always stayed true since the very first episode! Steven is, by far, the best hunting personality out there today! So much knowledge and respect for the game he hunts and the people he meets and shares his trips with.
Watching just how he moves and operates on camera is so nice because him getting comfortable has educated so many people

I started on the newer seasons, but I sort of like the feel of these older episodes better. Less scripted, less fancy gear. Just feels more visceral and real.
Steve you have relit my desire to harvest meat again. Thank you.
Started watching this show on youtube a few days ago and I’ve been hooked since. It’s crazy interesting seeing how much more comfortable the camera-people get throughout the episodes. The shake on the kill shot is something you never see in newer seasons, and it was the first time I realized how freaky it must be trying to focus on that animal without knowing when a gunshot will happen 10 feet from you lol. Such an amazing show though, everything about it is exactly as it should be
Thank you guys for posting the older seasons on youtube. Really appreciated because they aren't on netflix. Favorite show!

Hands down the best hunting/fishing show ever!! Love how you show everything. Hit/miss field to table, passion and all. Keep up the great work
Steve i grew up in the same area as you. West michigan. Grand rapids to be exact. Ive always been attracted to big open hunts like this but never have had the opportunity. You are so right about hunting in michigan. Between population of hunters and land ownership hunting in michigan is mostly sitting in a blind over bait. To me thats not hunting. I want to be out tracking and have to work for my reward. Love what you do man. Glad you show the ups and downs of hunting and show that not every shot is going to hit and not every hunt will yield meat. But its the enjoyment of being out that makes those losses okay. So what if i missed a shot or didnt get any meat. I got to spend time in beautiful country and see postcard sights and experience wildlife in a intimate way.
Thank you for sharing an old episode. One of my favorites
One of my favorite episodes of yours, thanks for posting it up!
Love the show. Haven't hunted since I was a kid but I'm working on getting back into it.
What gets me is how humble he is about hunting. He shows his failures as much as he shows his successes. And he always talks about the meat, not how awesome it will look on his wall. People need to realize that there are different types of hunters.

One thing I can see between young Steven and old Steven in late season is you don't rush to hunt like this. I like it when you arrive at the hunting site then spend a couple days tracking or watching animals before you shoot.
This is the first episode I had seen on the outdoorsman channel, and I instantly fell in love with the show.
