Yeah it was nice to see a realistic fight for a change even then. No one bouncing off walls and flying in the air to lay a kick to someone 50 feet away.
Keith David is one of my all time favorite actors. There are some people in life that are meant to be and born to do what they do and he is an exemplification of that.

Keith David is an icon and he hasn’t aged one bit over 40 years !
They Live 1988 was one of the best movies as far as life goes. The fight scene shows how people resist waking up. The aliens are most likely the sell outs. The big party shows the minions of the 1% The homeless camp shows the future in big cities. And the police are the enforcers for the system.
David is the man. One of my favs and so underrated
I think that's pretty crazy that this was literally the #1 movie for 2 weeks and then the establishment forced it to be removed from the box offices. That tells you something. They don't want people talking about concepts like this, that we're being ruled by a ruling class.

@@ScreamingEagleFTW made by one of Their own of course. They make these movies since They can't hide the truth of Their sinister plans or They will face karma, as far as galactic law is concerned. What They hope for is to drop the movie and have it flop and not talked about but unfortunately for Them the movie became a hit and plans backfired. That's when They go oh fuck, time to bury this and never show it ever again

Every time I've ever heard the intro, it was like an amazing poetry performance at a cafe. The boldness and command of his voice, with the nuance in the words makes me shiver in awe and respect.
Keith David is a legend. One of the all time greatest dramatic voices. He can use it to be terrifying or it can be ultra soothing or add a lot of gravitas, depending on what the performance requires. He's been in a ton of movies over a lot of years but still doesn't get the love he deserves.
Of ALL the movies I own in physical form (i.e., DVD), THIS one is near the top of my list. Thanks for contributing so superbly to this production, Keith, you made a fan out of me!

So, I was sitting at home one Saturday afternoon when a friend I had not talked to in 5 years called me to ask if he could borrow $10.00. I asked him why and he said he wanted to go to a movie and bus fare home. I asked if he was going alone. He said yes. I asked what movie. He said it is called "They Live" I ask if I could go with him, I could pick him up, pay for the movie, buy him dinner, and give him a ride home. That is how I got to see "They Live" I have not seen that friend since. Magical!
The important thing to remember about that fight scene is that it occurs because Nada (Roddy Piper) wanted Frank (Keith David) to wake up to what was really going on in the world, how things really worked. Frank did not want to wake up, so he tells Nada during the fight "Man, I told you, I didn't want to be involved". Sorta reminds me of how hard it is to wake people up in the real world. This movie is perhaps the best documentary ever made. 😎
No matter what the movie Keith is in he's always awesome! Cheers man!
How funny. The consumate professional actor, brilliant, acting with Roddy Piper. They made one of the best movies I've ever seen. Both class acts.
Keith David is just one of the best dudes ever. The characters, the voice - a total legend!
It's wild that he's been in 3 films involving alien human takeover, and replicating or taking away the original human self, and natural freedom. In The Chronicles of Riddick, it's more along the lines of the herding of the people, to turn them into Necromancers, & their intergalactic type of sheep.
He was good in both the thing and they live.
Keith has seriously impressive acting belt so to speak. In so many classic movies and even video games. He must dig scifi genre alot. I have not seen or heard hes interviews before, seems like a wonderful chap.
One of my favorite actors in one of my favorite films. Keith David is a legend!

Man vs alien.. Yea ok. Folks this is classic movie a CLASSIC. Yet most of the public today doesn’t even know it exists. You know why? “They” and certain people know who I’m talking about.. Don’t want independent thought. This movie wakes you up to all that’s going on around us. And is exactly what we’re dealing with today. George Carlin said it best “you have the illusion of 23 flavors”
Another that I would watch read the phone book.
The Thing was Keith David's first movie? Didn't know that. He appears to have credits for smaller roles, so I assume it means where he was a central character. But yeah, you wouldn't have guessed with how good his performance was. Everyone in that movie was great, honestly, but I'm biased. I love The Thing.

Also, I find it hilarious that the guy didn't recognize him. Probably just thought he was some bullshitter fan who really liked the film. I wouldn't have recognized an actor I had seen for the first time, either, though. I see a lot of movies and until a big breakout role, they sort of just meld into the back of my mind and then disappear almost completely. Then I'll watch that movie I've seen so many times and be like "wait, I know that person; they were in this!?"
Keith David also voiced Goliath in Gargoyles.
Sorry but he should have won an Oscar for Kirby in the underrated film Dead Presidents.

And now he's got lines in Rick & Morty. The black president
"Don't you get it? The Saints didn't solve a goddamn thing. Drugs were still being pushed, innocent people were still getting killed...all we did was turn into Vice Kings that wore purple..."
It's too bad Carpenter never made him a main character in one of his movies.
Say "ARBYS, WE HAVE THE MEATS" now
mac said get the what?? you heard him now move!!
8:18 I knew it! While watching it, I was just thinking "those have gotta be cleverly hidden mats". I could kind of see where it looked artificial, but only just. I knew there was no way in hell they were just taking each other and shoving one another into the ground and certainly not body slamming. It's really convincing, though. It looks like a shitty, dirty little city alleyway in every way. It's only when you think about it as a movie that you can kind of make out the seams in the process and even then it's still not completely evident.
David said the movie dropped off after 2 weeks but it sounds to me like it was pulled because it revealed some truth.

I'm not against the spirit of what they're doing just HOW they're doing it. getting grants, government certified loans, bailouts, etc. to meet diversity and feminist propaganda standards and quotas means they can just crank out crap and never worry about quality. so long as they get paid they don't care if the movie makes any money or the company goes bankrupt. and they spend so much time rewriting scripts to meet diversity and whatever other kind of requirements they don't have the time to actually make sure the story is any good. and most movies now just have the same plot, "white guy bad!"
Carpenter's 'thing' was way better I think (in the sense that it made more sense) because it wasn't so deeply involved with giving a 'red scare' message.
