I loved the ending of the Patsy. Jerry breaks the 4th wall long before Monty Python. Oliver Hardy did it in the 1930's.

I remember watching the 1963 Jerry Lewis show and Jerry talking about not being asked to be in It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World while every other comic in Hollywood was asked. He kind of half joked, half belabored on it, giving a look to the camera and to the director of the film. That's probably how he got his cameo.

So you think they shot that scene afterward? I'm assuming this was prior to that episode where he had the cast of the film on?

@@givethechanceakid Yes I think he got his point across on that episode. And they shot that just for him. I don't know what the original shooting schedule dates were. Maybe they were still in production or post. I think having Spencer Tracy throw his hat out the window was an easy way to get that cameo in. Maybe a good question for the Mad World Facebook page?

@@freelancefreddie I just saw that Jack Paar was originally thought about to play Jerry's role, so they did plan to have that scene previously. Maybe they filmed that scene at the absolute last minute, but it's odd that they would have still filmed things so close to the release date of Nov 3rd. Jerry's comment would have been later than September 21 which was the first show. That comment was definitely not on that to my recollection. That episode is on my Donazify channel.

Wish I could have been a part of this Zoom. I have several points I agreed with you and disagreed with you on the films. I too have been in TV production for many years. And grew up idolizing Jerry Lewis.I even met him a number of times. A couple as the MDAA photographer in San Francisco. Where I found myself a part of his entourage for the weekend. I found it interesting that some of the films you found difficult to watch were not the ones I find difficult to watch. I love the fantasy scene in The Ladies Man. Seeing the Cyclorama wall was not a problem for me at all. I liked seeing it. I don't know why but I did. Charlie Callas was as funny in The Big Mouth as Jerry. Don't Raise the Bridge Lower the River. Boring. The 2 French films embarrassing to watch. Cracking Up, Smorgasbord and Hardly Working, only worth seeing just to see Jerry if you were already a JL fan. The movies all get a D.

I agree with many of your points. Email me at kay2043838@gmail.com. Would love to have a discussion with you, and maybe set up a zoom discussion with you in the future. My audio gave out on me on this interview, but my new microphone is great. Feel free to join my JL discussion forum, Jerrylewisfans.freeforums.net

Really nice to hear all the personal remembrances and stories. I don’t agree with his viewpoint about JL’s films, as I feel The Patsy is one of his best. Also, it wasn’t up to Jerry to ‘give Dean jokes’ or better parts, that was Hal Wallis’ call and Wallis wanted ‘jerry movies’ for the $$.

Also some the writers didn't think Dean could even talk or they didn't have the faith in him to be funny on screen. I've gotta say that Dean did get at least half of the funny lines at least in Scared Stiff, which were the exact same lines as Bob Hope did. And they just didn't come off as funny at all when Dean said them. Dean wasn't funny reciting Bob Hope lines. So he was given the opportunity with funny lines there, it just didn't suit his type of funny.

Slapstick Of Another Kind is one of the movies that i grew up with. I don't think it is a bad or terrible movie.
