The comment about putting your best foot forward even when you aren't in the interview is super underrated. I have my current job entirely because I was nice to the people who would be my future colleagues. When I came in for my interview I had to walk through a room where two other people were sitting and working to get to the conference room where the interview would be held. I introduced myself to them and said "Hey, I'm Max. Its great to meet you guys, hopefully we will get to work together soon!" before I went into the interview with the person who would soon be my supervisor. I was honestly a little under qualified for the job but I knew my stuff, was well spoken, and gave a pretty strong interview. Later on I was on a project with my boss, and I asked him why he chose me over the other candidates. I knew they had stronger options so I was curious. He told me that after interviews they had narrowed it down to two candidates originally. One person who had better qualifications and experience, and myself. I had given the stronger interview but he wasn't sure that I had enough experience so, he asked his team who they would rather work with before he made his final decision. The two guys I had introduced myself to said "Max is the only person you interviewed who even acknowledged we were there." That was 7 years ago. Thanks to that introduction, I have been able to escape the job cycle and build an actual career. When I started my job I was living in a tiny government subsidized apartment with my wife and newborn son. I had no credit to my name, and we were barely making it. I now own a house, my credit is rated as excellent, and while things are still tight at times, we are far better off than I could have imagined back then. So yeah, treat everyone with kindness and respect, you never know who is going to be tipping the scales for or against you when you walk into an interview.

1 sentence summary: You're not interviewing for the Project Manager role. You're a project manager discussing with the hiring team :D

Hi Adriana! Do you have any tips for people wanting to move into a PM role who have a background in the field of education? I’m a former teacher, and my most recent role was as a Center Director for a math learning center. I’m a bit perplexed on how to translate my skill set to this role being that careers in education are somewhat undervalued. I really appreciate your channel!

Hi Attallah. Getting project experience is the first step and as a Center Director I am sure you have worked on many projects. Getting practical training is really important. I do have a course that I think would be of benefit to you. It's called SLAY Project Management. In this course I walk you through the entire project process from start to finish to make sure you know exactly how to manage your project. It also includes all the templates you will need to keep you on track with your projects! You will also have access to the SLAY Project Management Facebook group where you can ask questions and share your wins with other Slayers! Here is the link to check it out adrianagirdler.thinkific.com/courses/slaypm. Thanks for watching, cheers!
