PM’s role in estimation is facilitation of the refinement and estimation session. Also, PM has a important role for deriving the audience of the meeting. Attendees could be more than scrum team. In summary, it could be anyone who can help to estimate including other team members on whom the project might have a dependency. Besides, PM is supposed to let team consider dependencies while estimating and derive a project schedule and costing plan out of the estimation exercise. PM is also required to document assumptions and decisions if any coming out of estimation activity.

Hi Saket, for a question related to how to monitor the health of the project. The scrum master can use various metrics to observe the health of the ongoing project. For example, Defect density, defect leakages, code review effectiveness, schedule variance, cost variance, task completion ratios. Monitoring these parameters helps us to give enlarge view of any problems occurring and effective RCA with team will help to resolve these issues. In addition, you can keep initial benchmark values for metrics and gradually tighten these parameters with time.

Good to hear it. I was quite on target. I gave 2 hours interview to a typical desi, it started from Technology QnA (all my mentioned technical skill sets - he was googling them) and then went into Project mgmt. Majority of what you guys discussed is what I explained. The Feedback he gave me is, you are too technical and give too detailed explanation. Based this session I think, either the guy was clueless to fit me or he had someone else to be onboarded. Lesson learnt: Some people take interview for time pass or to improve their won knowledge. Appreciate your feedback.

Hi Manish, I feel your frustration as I've been in the same boat and so have many of my friends. Typical desis will be very pleasing and submissive to goras but when it comes to interviewing another desi, they want to come on top, trying to showcase they know more and have a condescending attitude.

One the Capacity Planning part, where it was told to add more people who were just released from other sprint, i found we could have brought in the cost associated with them and without the stakeholders approval it is not possible. In fact, new members might be distorting the team dynamics.

Amazing video Saket. In reponse to one of the questions about resource constraint, you suggested documenting this as a risk and bringing it to the attention of stakeholders for a risk assessment. Just want to add that for such constraints, automation may also be looked at as a mitigation strategy.

Nowadays during interview people want to use agile with cost and schedule baseline of waterfall... PM is very subjective domain... The best fit answer for any question changes from domain to domain... I have been through an interview where interviewer asked situation based question and then countered my answer with long term stategy decisions unrelated to context of question... It is very difficult to gauge what is going on in an interviewer mind and what exactly he wants to listen...

  • @izenbridge

In general, an organization need to define the group that understand the business needs and make a decision on the release of the features which are ready for release.

And for threats you have to find the solution.
