International contributions to DUNE

Ғылым және технология

Ten international funding agencies will contribute to the construction of the gigantic particle detectors for the Fermilab-hosted Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment. DUNE will be the world’s most comprehensive experiment to study neutrinos: tiny, lightweight particles that permeate the universe but rarely interact with anything. DUNE will seek to determine whether neutrinos could be the reason the universe is made of matter; look for neutrinos emitted from exploding stars to learn more about the formation of neutron stars and black holes; and watch for a rare subatomic phenomenon that could elucidate the unification of nature’s forces.

Glad to do a little part shipping crated equipment for DUNE from Winchester, KY to the shaft at Lead, SD last January.

That signing event is one really big step into the future of the world and shows how important international collaborations in science have become. It also shows that seemingly concurring research facilities like Fermilab and CERN work together closely to produce even better scientific results than each of them would solitarily.

My hopes, among many, is our understanding of flavours (oscillation) of neutrinos is more understood.

I do agree that the nutrino is one the areas of physics that is the least charted of known physics. Good luck and good discoveries!
