That V-8 sound on a tractor is just awesome.
It sure is good to see red tractors that are open cab in the field plowing
A V8 diesel at full song is beautiful music!!! Thank you for posting this video. We never used any V8 diesel's, but did use IH tractors. My granddad had a WD-9, a 600, and a 1206 that dad used. Then dad got a 1486. Later he upgraded to a CIH 9110. All good tractors.
what a gorgeous tractor and awesome sound. No small price tags for early-mid 70s, and would've never guessed the V8 would've been cheaper. Never knew what the "8" stood for, now I do!

The V8 was cheaper to buy then but, it sure isn’t cheaper by any means used now. Just attend or watch an Auction sale and You’ll see what l mean. Fergieman
Loved the 1466. Helped the neighbor back in the 70's when I was a teenager. Plowed, disced, and cultivated with it.
Am I the only one that thinks the dirt in that field is the real star of the show??? I think you could run the planter right behind that plow. I've never seen anything like it... Awesome video as always BTP. Those V8 IH's are everyone's favorite! I hope you make a Big Tractor Payment from the amount of views this video will net you :)

2:40 Looks like blow sand with sandy clay subsoil. That's why there's a center pivot in the background. Very poor water holding capacity. better looking in some shots (1466) and the soil near the end of the video, those had some organic matter.

It’s nice to see that some Guys can appreciate a Tractor that isn’t Green Fergieman
Beautiful piece of machine!!!!!!.
the v8 sounds amazing ;;
We had several IH S-Series spreader trucks from the 80's. Two had the 9.0 liter IH motors and the rest had DT-466 engines. The 9.0 liter engines were gutless. Would barely maintain 45 mph loaded. The 466 trucks would walk the dog loaded .
We had one growing up in Louisiana. We bought it used when I was about 12 years old. I finally got to start driving it when I was about 14 because the clutch was so heavy, having no hydro assist. After driving it all summer long, your left leg would be 2x the size of your right.

I didn't know they came without a hydraulically assisted clutch. Ours had the deluxe cab and torque amplifier. Jason is reporting 20.3 mph but ours would clock 30 mph. It had been "adjusted" to run a bit overspeed but it may have been something to do with tire choices as well. We ran 20.3 x 34 dualled with hub mounted 18.4 x 38s. I've seen others comment about theirs really getting up and moving on the road too. Although we ran a mixture of Case, Deere, Steiger and IH, we worked back and forth with neighbours who had exclusively IH equipment so across the two operations, I had thousands of hours in the 1468, 1456, 1466, 1486, 1066, 1086, 3588, 3788, 4166, ... plus all the IH utility tractors from 606 onward and an array of swathers, combines and other cool equipment.
One sweet tractor for sure
I wish i could give you a thumbs up for every pass that you filmed. Love that sound
I live in south eastern north carolina. I never thought that you would be in my neck of the woods
Much Respect and Support from the UK
I have run both the 1466 and 1468, I always thought the 1468 had more power. But I was in my late teens and the twin stacks sounded more powerful! We were using the 4WD frontends and would put them on and take them off for different needs. When they changed tractors we would just use the frontends we had but for some reason the 1468 didn't have the cover on the side of the transmission to hook up the 4WD shaft.
Run a straight piped 1468 or 1568 open station for 14-16 hours a day for a week plowing or disking then tell me how much you love that sound.

What??
Man I like the sound of that v-8 IH diesel! Too bad there aren’t any V-8 diesel tractors on the market now. Massey Ferguson had a lot of those Perkins V-8 diesel engines in the 1970s and 1980s.
I prefer the 1466 personally, but this was really great to watch.
Beautiful tractor!
Shes a beauty.
Glad to see some NC iron featured!
That's a great tractor 🚜
I have been feeling down in the dumps recently, so i decided to watch this, the v8 sound just lifted the mood up, thank you sor!

Beautiful soil , nice plowing job .
Excellent video
We have a with 30 acre field left to plow. I live between New Vienna iowa and Petersburg Iowa. Where I live is considered Dyersville Iowa.
Powerful tractor 🚜 1468 nice system.
In the fall of 2004 I drove from Saint Paul down to Mountain Lake Minnesota by 169 and I was surprised to see three different 1468’s on three different farms.
Welcome to NC
We still use the Massey. Ferguson 1155 with a v8 to cut and bale hay.

I have the 1568 tractor, been working on restoring it
That’s one fine looking machine and the noise it makes is tremendous, I want one

Only a 6 bottom plough? I pulled a 6 bottom plough with the 1070 Case tractor.
NICE
THANKS JASON FOR THIS VIDEO OF THE 1468 THEY WERE REALLY GOOD TRACTOR FOR TILLAGE AND FOR ULLING FORAGE HARVESTERS .GRAT VIDEO .
I drove one for a summer down near Fort Scott Kansas 1468 V8 straight pipes dual Tire in evening you could hear me plowing for three counties around😂😂
We had a 1468 tractor at the farm West of Le Sueur Mn ❤😊 I got to drive the tractor 2 TIMES !!! One with 5 bottom 710 plow. I think 🤔 I was 15 years old at the time 😊😊😊😊
That tractor is definitely a showpiece and a hoss. The video doesn't do it justice
Good video.
Have a 1066. Had a 1086 also but one had to go. Kept the 66 because dad bought it.
The 66 series was 1972-1976 the 1468 is a 1466 with a v8 in it, & it was a year before they released it , 1973 i beleive & it didnt finish the series run, as i think it stopped in 75, so,s from my memory the 1468,s were 73,74&75, i know where 1 is, & ive been around it over 40 years now, ive ran a 1135 massey in feild next to that 1468 ih , i was around wen the 66 series were still being built
That amazing looking tractor. Good vedio

Thats what i love about the old-timers, is you ask them how their tractor is going and they say, Cant hear yah.
How big of a breaken plow,we pulled 6 20"plows when we was farming
What do you believe is best sounding naturally aspirated V8 row crop tractor? I know theres only a few but i personally like the WHITE 2-180 most

Massey Ferguson 2775 non Turbo or 2805 Turbo charged. 640 Cubic Inch. Fergieman
Hope that DV-550 worked out better in tractors than it did for IH trucks
Beast
my uncle had one it was a beast out in the field when ya was used to runnin a 856 farmall. it would spin the duals discing when ya started pulling up a grade when it went from 4 to 8 cylinders
We Never had a Big International Tractor just a small Farm it Some.
70's ih tractors are the best! I have a '71 856 turbo
@bigtractorpower

Very nice. The 856 is a cool IH. One of my favorite IH tractors.
Grew up on a M Farmall still use it and have a 986 ,1206 , 806 .
The man driving the tractor better have ear plugs in because straight pipes on a natural aspirated engine are very loud. The tractor would run better with mufflers to get the proper back pressure so the engine could run more efficiently
Are they growing a specialty crop (sweet potatoes?) or what was the reason for moldboard plowing that fluffy soil ?
Can’t be too many rocks or stumps in that paddock. If he hit one at that speed he’d most likely be thrown from the seat to the middle of the bonnet 🤣😂 Regards from Down Under.
👏👏👍👍💪💪🚜🚜
I'd like to see a video with explanation on these I see with the twin turbos set up. I think there were m and w setups.
We are morbord plowing the the 150 case ih maxxum with the plow 720 4 bottom with 18 inch bottoms. And we plow 8 to 10 inches deep.
V8 power 💪

I think they’re neat, but the engines weren’t good back then, and they still aren’t now. Was a gas engine converted to diesel and wasn’t heavy duty enough. I had a 470 Cummins in my D145 Versatile, but the Cummins 6 turbo that replaced it is MUCH BETTER. Better power, torque, fuel economy.
Loud pipes saves lives!
I guess if you've got enough tractor to pull 6 bottoms @ 6mph you don't need a disc.
Looks like there is a bit of wheel slip. I have a sea of green toy tractors I only have 2 1/16 scale red ones the 1468 it one of them
Thought they were really cool when they first came out. Bought 2 1486 in 1979. Even now still think would have been better to get 2 1570 case instead. Less $ and longer service

I'm a huge fan of the IH tractors from this era, and the V8 is a dream tractor for me. That said, I am friends with a farmer from my younger days that ran a Case 1570 at something like ~225 hp for his biggest farm tractor my entire childhood.
have you come across a Massey Ferguson 1155 in your travels? Both the 1466/1468 were later up to 145 PTO hp.If it was nt for a MF 1150 there might not have been a red 1468.

I have filmed one 1155 on one Pass plowing I have about two minutes of footage of it. I really want to film an 1150, 1155, 2775 and a 2805 very badly.
Rias Gremory from the anime highschool dxd what definitely look nice on that tractor
My grandfather had a international 806 94 horsepower an 856 had 100 horsepower also a 460 and a farmall H
You hear that thing running well if you run it all day when you go to bed you going to run it in your head all night long
Huh, a naturally aspirated diesel, interesting. Did the concept of turbocharged diesel engines used in farm equipment just not exist yet in the ‘70s? 🤔
@brucesieverts1236

there was a version of 68 series tractors that was twin turbo . I think it's the 1568 black bird.
Had Massey Ferguson not manufactured an 1150/1155 l wonder if IH would’ve made the two V8s. Massey was the first row crop with a V8. The Massey Ferguson was superior in several ways particularly in Hydraulics and IH didn’t copy that. Forget not that Ferguson was the originator of the three point system and, added closed center Hydraulics ( which Deere copied ) later. Fergieman
