I spent my childhood in northern Indiana working on my uncles farm. He raised hogs and at his peak was running 10,000 head. Not the biggest operation, but pretty large. He worked about 18,000 acres and 14,000 was corn just to feed the hogs. Occasionally when it was a good year I can remember him selling 2 or 3 semi loads, but mostly it was ground up for feed. The rest was beans, wheat, some alfalfa and sunflowers. And John Deere was his brand. He had over a dozen tractors, 3 of them being this model. As a ten year old kid I wasn't allowed to run them. I was relegated to a 4440 with a front loader attachment. Running the fields to remove rocks, cleaning up spills, burying dead hogs, pulling grain carts at harvest, that kind of work. But I can remember watching all three John Deere 8640's side by side making short work out of a field. I believe he was pulling 10 bottom plows, but that may not be right. Hard to remember that far back! Nice video. Brought back some really fond memories

Beautiful! Sad to see plowing is a thing of the past now the last 5-6 years due to severe droughts most of us here in the Balkans switched to subsoiling and it conserves moisture better than the plowed ground goes deeper than the plow and is more wider so at the end of the day we plowed roughly 9 hectares with our tractor its a deere 6920s and with a subsoiler we go around 10,5-11 ha with the same fuel😮

Appreciate the nice words! Enjoy your sunday

No auction. found randomly in a guy's tree line. What happened to the 8630?
When I was a child I would go with my uncle to a farm about 40 miles from where I lived. He was a tractor mechanic and fixed any of their tractors when he was needed. They had a team of 8630’s and 8640’s. I would get up in the cab and pretend I was driving them. I just loved those big John Deere’s.

@@MichiganMarineFarmer had lots of smoke here too. Was very dry in spots here, we managed to get just enough rain to get things thru till about mid Aug. Since then, showery and high humidity, been slow harvesting and haying. We have very little crop mostly pasture and hayland but hay crops are decent to good. The grain guys for the year we had are pleasantly suprised how crops are yielding.

Awesome. They definitely are a good pulling work horse. Just pay attention to the motor. Check the oil drain plug after sitting in off-season before starting. If no coolant comes out first yer good, if it does you got troubles.

Back in the day we plowed so deep never had to touch the steering wheel.
I've always wondered how fields have nice neat edges even when they've been initially plowed with a staggered arrangement running diagonally like that. How do they make nice neat edges with plowing implements like that? That tractor is very strong, look after her and get that exhaust manifold leak fixed sooner rather than later! She will do much hard work when it comes to the field work associated with getting a crop grown and ready for harvest! 😁👍👍🚜

It's not down pressure, what you are doing is trying to get the platform leveled up so the boards are at a consistent depth. Nice setup for doing some old school mold board plowing. Sounds like maybe you need to do a valve adjustment on that deere though.
