Very interesting, the double rub test is called the martindale test in the Uk and it's done by rotating discs of sandpaper on fabric. I was nodding along with your comments about "Modern" style ,I have noticed that some shapes that are considered "Modern" like tub chairs for instance ,have actually changed very little in over 100 years. Details like colours and fabrics come and go but the skeleton remains. I see the sloping and bowed chair arms that were popular in 20s and 30s club chairs have been making a comeback as features of accent chairs. There's something rather wonderful about knowing that you could take a reupholstered club chair from 1935 and it would sit happily in a contemporary loft space. I suspect i'm rambling here but that's what happens when I watch videos like yours ..lol.

Definitely part 2!!! I just learned so much from this video. You are a great teacher. One reason why I love this channel is that it is not just another interior “decorating” channel; you educate us on design as well. You seem to be one of the few who has a design (vs decorating) background and it shows. The other reason I love the channel is for the dogs (I still miss Albert so much 😢)…oh and you too!

Wow, thank you! I understand. There is an actual science to interior design which you learn by going to college for it or at least working for a good period of time with an interior designer or firm. I try speak about subjects like interior decorating and design because that’s what I’m educated in vs say medicine, engineering, etc.

Garrett, what are the odds you would entertain a special request video? I've scoured your vast video school room, but I have not found a solution to a dilemma I am currently troubling with. Could you please, would you please, please be my neighbor and possibly address this decor conundrum? Dressing a window with elaborate and opulent layered drapery consisting of shears and velvet embellished victorian drapes, finished valance, and let's not forget the tassel tiebacks mounted bilatterly for that swag effect. Now all of that over an unsightly window air conditioning unit that simply is an eyesore. Sadly, the unit is a necessary evil in this story. I cannot find a way to conceal the damn thing without an overly conspicuous buldge ruining my envisioned effect. I'm quite sure I am not the only person that is a student of your's that has not in the past or in the future, or perhaps currently faced or facing a simular ordeal. I am confident in the belief that you will have the solution to this tedious and troublesome decor personal hell I'm facing. Spoiler alert: Not as simple as just installing deeper brackets-oh no. @@GarrettLeChic

This was a GREAT one!!! I'm going to watch it again later and make some notes. Especially on paint. I love to paint (oil) and your explanations will help me when mixing oil paint and as well as my walls.

Brilliant part 1. Looking forward to part 2 and beyond. I particularly enjoyed your explanation on modern design. I’m like you, I just love well designed and made items. Art deco is my favourite but don’t really like pottery/ceramics from that era. I also think art nouveau is gorgeous. I’ve always just thought I was confused and lacked cohesion and style.
