With so many KZread decorators, it's so refreshing to find one who is actually trained and knows what works and what doesn't. Thank you, Garrett!

Thanks Lesli! I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences to help others. Interior design is so much more than finding pretty pieces or regurgitating current trends on social media. I don’t claim to know everything and there are other great trained and highly experienced designers like Rebecca Robeson and Amy Studebaker for example that I enjoy watching in my spare time. Thanks for watching and subscribing. 😀😀😀

Until seeing this video, I hadn’t put up any curtains in my home! Every single one has the accordion fabric shades! Might have to try a set in my living room to see how I like them.

This is why you’re my favourite KZread designer. Please keep making interesting and unique content like this, sometimes small and seemingly obvious things aren’t! My husband and I have been binging your channel as we renovate our historic farmhouse. Thank you ❤️

This was very helpful! I like symmetry, but am also aware that one heavy chair on one side of the room could be balanced with two lighter chairs ("airy") on the opposite side. I also appreciate that you identify that you are *trained* in this area; although many things can be left to "personal taste", it's important to note that there are principles to design that are aesthetic, and not just "personal opinion".

Thanks for your great comment Rosetta! We appreciate your support of the channel. 😀😀😃
Great basics video for someone who is starting out or revamping a space. How about a vid on scale of baseboards, mouldings and door trim? Have to comment, Garrett that your attention to the pace of your videos is one of the many reasons I subscribe. Many other "decorators" speak too fast and appear that they are watching an egg timer and content gets lost in their hurried delivery. You are gifted in the ability to be clear and concise within your allotted time.

Thanks so much for another lovely comment Lisa! I actually don’t have to read off a screen to present in our videos. I’m lucky I just know all this from getting my degree in interior design. I will look into including your suggestions in an upcoming video. 😃😃😃

It would seem several of us think you must have taken a couple classes on how to share what you’ve learned with those of us who only took home economics 30 years ago and only designed one pillow!
Thank you for saying all furniture doesn’t have to fit on my rug. I do have about 50% on it but was feeling like a major design failure by not finding a rug big enough. Now I can sleep at night. 😂😘

Thanks for watching and subscribing Aimee! I think you did great and having all the furniture on an area rug would have been a design failure in my opinion. 😀😀😀

Glad I saw this before I went out to buy my first rug. I thought you only needed the furniture to touch onto the rug! 😅. 50% is probably be what I aim for first. Thrilled you explained that the rug doesn’t need to extend the length of a room and by making a grounded space, I’m leaving an intentional walking space. Sorry for all the comments but I’m just so excited!
My big complaint on all those shows on HGTV is that on the reveal, they mostly do nothing to elevate the windows. It mostly looks like they go to Target and grab some shades or curtains with grommets and call it a day. I have even seen them sew up some paint drop cloths to be a budget saver.

THANK YOU for this!! Especially mentioning hanging artwork higher or in line with architectural features! I also never understood the whole eye line “rule” I would hear from others. In my opinion, I like things that catches me to look up because I feel like we’re always looking down at things-phones, computers, etc. Anything that makes me keep my head up a little bit more automatically makes me feel “lighter” too.

Thanks so much for an actual rule on the curtain "fullness!" I knew mine were too thin, but couldn't figure out appropriate measurements to prevent in the future. LoneFox shared a great tip for eyelit curtains to look fuller. Put toilet paper rolls between the hidden sections and they always look full. The only issue is if it's a smaller window, I had to cut them down because when opened, the curtains were taking up 50-70% of the window space and not allowing light in.
This is so helpful thank you garrett ❤️❤️❤️

The tip about scale and proportions is essential. Something to consider when we try to recreate a space that we see in a picture or a book, lighting is also very important and in my opinion is one of the most difficult to balance the right way. Good video!!

I live in a classic tract house and my ceilings are 8 ft. When went to hang my new rods I realized that I needed 90-92 inch curtains and they are standard 94-96 inches. I am not in the position to hem my jeans much less 8 panels of curtains, so I relented and put them in the place for the standard 84 inch panel.
Thank you chic Garrett! Love and blessing to you and your family.🐕👏👬 I
