Interesting lower radiator hose on a 2003 BMW 325i

WARNING! THIS VIDEO IS MISSING IMPORTANT STEPS IN THE PROCESS AND IS NOT A COMPLETE "HOW-TO" VIDEO!
I have to apologize as this is not one of my better videos. I do not have a camera person, and left out some rather important bits in the process of actually changing out the hose. My viewers have spoken out very clearly! I will try my best to do better in the future! Unfortunately, the owner sold the vehicle and moved away so I won't have the opportunity to remake the video unless I get another one in the shop.
After replacing the lower control arm bushings, we needed to change the lower radiator hose. The BMW is very interesting in that it does not use the regular hose clamps like we are used to seeing, they use an o-ring and spring clip retaining mechanism.

Very informative video. I have my temp sensor leaking too, bought a new hose but I will change the o-ring and see if that fixes it first. If not I will just replace both the hose and sensor . Thanks a lot.

@@artm5583 I replaced both because the hose was kinda soft compared to the one I got so it needed to be replaced anyway. It cost me about $17 for the hose and I got the sensor from FCP euro. Just drain the coolant and replace it with a new one too.

Hmm ive never seen that way of connecting hoses before, very nice design, it beats argueing with wire clamps or band types. I like the measured way you topped the fluid back up, a frend of mine laughed as i used a plastic measuring jug to fill an engine up with oil, i poured in the exact amount stated in the manual, then after kicking the engine over a few times with ignition disabled i checked the oil level, spot on!! :-) why guess lol.

You didn't show how you took the hose off and then put it back on. It is better to put a small amount of silicon lubrication on the hose connections and not open the clips but to let them closed and click them into a lock position. When you hear the click you know your connection is good.

Check out Nathan's "BMW Snap Lock Coolant Hoses Installation Tips And More E88 Coolant Leaks" for tips on the proper way to use these clip hoses. I had the lower hose pop off doing it the way you show, fortunately it only cost me $30 in more coolant! I wish I had seen Nathan's video before. What a sense of security to hear that click, knowing the hose was securely installed. It made me appreciate the German engineering rather than question it. Also coolant as a lubricant works great and obviously is compatible.

Am I right that the '01 E46 version of this hose is a thinner and longer one? Connects to bottom of radiator and runs up and back to the engine.

mine hard to sit in lower hose to radiator outlet even i lock it but when i wiggle it..it came off from radiator outlet..im thinking maybe the o ring from the hose cant hold to surface of radiator connector thats why it slips and doesnt make contact...

+Lynn “T” Jenkins Sadly these cars are expensive to own. They have the "Cool Factor" that everyone likes, but like any car they have their issues. only being a foreign car, these issue are far more costly to fix. I never advise anyone to buy one unless you either have enough money to ask "when" instead of "how much", or you can work on it your self.

Yeah if you can't work on the car it really is a fortune unforuntely. But oh my is it somewhat easy and save so lot when you do the work. For example filter housing gasket had to change. Did it over the weekend + oil + coolant change. Gasket parts re like 50$ and independent shop would still be around 400$.
