Interesting Low To Beam Work Montage

Спорт

Remember when working low to the beam consisted of more than sitting down, waving your arms then standing up again?

yea, there should be 3 groups now, rhythmic, artistic, and dynamic. because olympic level gymnastic routines aren't as artistic as they used to be. i'm not complaining because i love the big tricks. I just dont think of it as "artistic" when 9 out of 10 competitors are doing virtually the same routine because they all want the highest start value.

Don't the current gymnasts ever look at this and get creative ideas ? Incredible, that girl who spun on her back ! I was a gymnast in the 1970s and liked working on this kind of thing. Back then, we all learned forward and backward rolls and sliding into the splits on beam.

That's exactly my gripe with modern gymnastics. KZread was only founded 15 years ago, so for those who competed before 2005 one of the only ways in which you had access to previous competitions etc was if you had a personal copy of the event. Yet artistry, originality and creativity were at an all time high and the internet wasn't even a _thing_ for most of those decades back then. Whereas now, for long as gymnasts *(and coaches--who are just as much if not more so to blame)* have data and a screen they can access a gold-mine of footage at their convenience. But all we see is gymnasts "sitting down, waving their arms then standing up again" as rightfully stated by Mostepanovafan in the description box. Although this much I will say, as of 2017-2020 things have been much better than they were previously--esp 2013-16 (which I frequently cite as being the worst Code of Points of in the sport). So in future, I do pray that we soon enter into a neo-classical era of the sport, because from the equipment to information-access, everything has improved so drastically since the Golden Age, the only thing that's (ironically) lagging behind is the quality of the actual gymnastics!

Clearly before FIG was interested in a different style of gymnastics. Nowadays, they just don't care about the artistry, hence girls don't need to practice these exquisite and original moves. Those of us who have followed gymnastics for a long time, see this as artistic gymnastics. The younger generations might not understand why anyone should bother with these skills. At least we have KZread and generous people like MostepanovaFan who work on these montages that all old-school fans enjoy. Thanks for your time and effort!

Remember reading some CoP from the 80's, it was a requirement to work on the low beam WITH creativity, in fact, judges gave you extra tenths for doing it, (the perfect 10 scoring was divided in 3: elements, execution and bonus for creativity which helped you to get a higher score or even a perfect 10)

For those who comment constantly, saying today’s gymnastics can’t compare- you’re right. And this can’t compare to today’s modern gymnastics. If you want to see this type of thing, watch rhythmic gymnastics or ballet, rather than just complaining. I agree that this type of creativity is beautiful, and we are seeing some of it still incorporated into the sport, but it’s a direction we steered away from. There’s still plenty of artistry, just not the type that was in use back then. Both are equally interesting.
