As a fan, I don’t want to even know the officiating is there if you get me, it’s the best league in the world so the reffing should be almost faultless. But coming out and doing all these shows and having refs trying to become celebrities on TV just makes it talked about more and more. They need to just learn from the mistakes and stop them happening again. This example is so bad it’s actually laughable.

Anyone who defends the refs currently is a loser. There is not one other sport in this country were we speak about var and shocking ref decisions more than the actual match. Simon slaughters players every week who dont preform, he destroys managers who don’t preform but refs he defends. Var he defends and says they are trying there best and its human errror….. Hypocrite and danny is absolutely spot on here. Danny did not even say all decisions should be perfect but he and most pundits rightly so are saying these decisions where 99% of people agree on need to stop! And simon saying its pundits going after refs unfairly 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Half these officials now think they're celebrities, podcasts and articles and punditry, and they either contradict each other all over the place or plead the 5th and start covering for their mates. Sick of refs and VAR, how about they just put their heads down and do their jobs properly, and let's have simple rules, the game shouldn't be this hard to officiate.

    1. Get rid of the "clear and obvious error" rule. 2. Give each team 6 tokens per game to ask the referree team to review a decision using the video replay tools. 3. This removes the fear by the VAR that they are dropping the referee in the mire by asking them over to review a decision....because the teams will be making the appeal. 4. The limit on video replay tokens would limit the potential for teams to use this as a tactic

I can think of two solutions: 1] A panel of three personel vote on each VAR decision. The assumption being if one idiot doesn't give the correct decision, then the other two would be able to save him from his incompetentcy. This also helps against personal bias these refs have against certain clubs. 2] English refs should do VAR for another league and say La Liga refs should do ours. They wouldn't be able to "save my mate" ala mike dean or have to fear the abuse either. Or perhaps a mix of both, a panel of an english/german/spanish refs that vote. At least then the continental refs could outvote the incompetent english officials.

When you hear a VAR official say, I didn’t instruct the referee to take a look at the monitor because he was having a really tough game and I thought I would help out a mate then yes I would like to hear the audio to understand why a referee came to a decision. I’m paying money to watch a football game and if my team is not awarded a penalty when it looks from every angle a penalty then yes I want to know why that referee came to that conclusion, then maybe I will understand and not give the referees so much stick at the end of the game.

They are looking at video, right there and then for minutes and they're blatantly cheating, it's video? There's no errors, it's there, right in front of them

Strange that none of you mentioned or tried to explain away, the very worst case of VAR from alst season, how that geezer who totally forgot to even draw the line in the Arsenal v Brentford game! Who only after the subsequent fury, 'walked' away, ushered out the back door to quell the ever increasing intensity of an explanation. Drawing the line is how you establish whether it was on/offside. To put milk in the fridge you have to open the (closed) fridge door, forget to open the door, the milk doesn't go in the fridge, so forget the draw the line, it can't be offside. So until clubs are permitted to bring a legal case against the likes of that VAR official, nothing will change! As an Arsenal fan, I recall the atrocious decisions that continally went against us v UTD, during the Keane/Vieria era, so much so Wenger even called one 'Dishonest' on the touchline during the game. When the REF dared him to say it again, Wenger did and was dutily banned/fined as a shut your mouth! Don't try and challenge our UNchallengerables. Interesting the REF never brought legal action against Wenger, for such a slanderous allegation, but then if he did, AFC would have all the slow-mo video evidence of what Wenger was basing his allegations on, presented to the court, which via the media, would be also seen by the footballing world. And he would have to under oath and under pressure from a highly skilled Billionaire's Barrister. 20+ years ago I remember seeing it used succesfully for Cricket, Tennis, Rugby, why only recently for football? Why did football resist VAR for so long? Let's have you 3 debaters debating that next time, but honestly and frankly or don't bother.

Jim White sounds belligerent, an insufferable pundit. Danny Murphy needs to host his own segment.

Poor quality refs before VAR. Now poor quality refs with help of VAR.. what is the point?

Why not use a similar system to what most Rugby leagues use? Audible conversations between VAR refs and on pitch refs, viewed on screen, and utterly transparent. Seems like they've already handled the major objection to doing this, the time it may take, by actually keeping track of stoppages in play. Am I crazy or do they already have a model they could adopt and tweak?
