What do you think about Wasted Studios going out of business? Will Moon Patrol and Biplanes get finished elsewhere? Do you think there are other Intellivision devs in similar situations and/or upset about the lack of progress with the console?

I doubt these games will ever see the light of day, much like the amico console. Oddly, moon patrol was pushed from the beginning. If a launch day title didn't make it, then forget about any of the others!

It was so weird that Slopes, known for calling out Kickstarter scams, shilled for Amico like that.

I really want a full on documentary of the Amico now. A deep dive long form vid. Cause this HAS to go deeper and crazier then any of us realize.

It's going to be really interesting when the employee NDA's expire. The stories are going to be wild.

NDAs don't really mean shit if you lose your job over semi-fraudulent bullshit or the company folds.

This is the type of thing that needs some sort of documentary, the rise and fall of intellivison. From interviews with former staff to stories and reenactments of things that happened. Tommy since I know you read everything here’s an idea for you maybe you can make the soundtrack. !

Funny how they could manufacture card board ‘IOUs’, but not the consoles. Alverado was caught saying they can build Amicos in-house. His Private messages were leaked on to AtariAge. My question is - why couldn’t they budget in a ‘team’ of people to assemble consoles there at IE, and then switch to a manufacturer later??

With the Dev company that made Moon Patrol folding before the "deep dive" and there was revealed content from Star Fox written in the game.........Do you think this could have been an act of sabotage by the Dev Company as they weren't properly funded and angry with Intellivision and how they were treated?

Looking forward to your look at the "unboxing" video that just dropped- it's a doozy. I still don't know what's going to happen; but like any car crash, I've been fascinated by this saga in the "don't want to look, but can't look away" sense.

I was one of the suckers who reserved a "founders edition". Little did I know I'll be getting a paper box for my troubles (maybe). At least that was my takeaway from the "unboxing video". It pissed me off immensely knowing that no console will ever be forthcoming, yet those snake oil salesmen are acting like nothing's wrong. 😡😡🤬

The Atari VCS merely lacks identity. It does a thing... it is a bit overpriced and doesn't have the ability to justify it being around It isn't a scam--but uh, that shouldn't be considered an achievement. However, we live in the darkest timeline

Now that they've done an unboxing video, the silence is broken and the scatterbrained timing of their public updates continues. It's all very ill thought out from a customers perspective, and if it was someone who hasn't seen this console before, it would be easy for them to assume it's ready to ship soon.

You guys had a chance to go a month without Amico discussion but they decided to mess that up with their poorly executed “unboxing” event.

Sad thing is I wanted to like the Unboxing video, because John seems like a truly likable guy. I didn't like the video because they still haven't shown us the full specs or gone over truly important things towards the market they are supposedly aiming towards ( no mention of parental controls or what parents can do to make sure little Timmy dosen't go crazy on the store. Remember these are no longer cheap $3-$10 games lol).

It's an old media tactic. Which is a bit of a problem in this New Media world. Can't report in the evening edition or morning edition if the moronic thing you do falls between those.

I'm glad I've been keeping up with all of your coverage of this - there's so many juicy details to keep track of. It feels like my very own Coleco Chameleon, this is a hoot

How ironic is it that Tommy was upset about the release/leak/reporting of “confidential” info by Ars Technica when he couldn’t do the same for his own partners in Choice Provisions.

$50 says the book about this when it's all over includes like a chapter (or several asides/ cutaways that more or less amounts to a chapter) detailing the Caleco Chameleon (and whatever it was originally called) & tracing the similarities between the two situations...

Tommy went to the flea market research centre by the docks.

Pat bought the physical products so he could participate in the inevitable class action lawsuit. No judge will believe customers bought these expecting anything less than a guaranteed eventual game.

Given that they've resorted to "Friday Night Dump" tactics before, the behaviour is as predictable as it is sad. But rather than evading the wrath, they've just given the duo a _whole week_ to dissect the video. Frame by frame, if they wanted.

Pat, I personally talked to StartEngine and they told me that Intellivision's escrow account had never been opened - that no funds were ever taken from the investors because they terminated their offering, and so nobody was actually refunded. Meaning that all the money "invested" in the StartEngine campaign was basically people just saying how much they _wanted_ to contribute - it was essentially a pipe dream, potentially even just from the employees themselves.

Wasted Studios stopped producing Intellivision games once that German grant money ran out. Once they had to rely tommy to fund them then it was Game Over.

Mainly due to the parts shortage or them fucking up with the manufactures that have the components and don't want to pay what at least 1.5 mil to them but lost that much money and wanted to get a nice paid profit and not doing anything and now their charging the customers more money so they can paid back the German Govt and Sudash loans too.

I had predicted the most damning revelations would only surface after the whole thing had collapsed and it seems to be happening. I wonder how much worse this'll get?

Have you looked into John Avacado's recent posts, thankfully collected into one image? It's kind of magical madness. It's not a blank cheque forever. There are almost certainly stipulations and at some point you have to reapply I imagine. It probably ran out and they were denied or didn't bother to reapply for more grant money and that was that.

Night Stalker has been lost to the ether. No updates from Other Ocean or Mike Mika has me wondering if they saw the writing on the wall and stopped production.

Luckily I got my $100 back last year when shit really started hitting the fan. Took over a month to get it back (with very little communication) so I'm hopeful the folks you mentioned that are still waiting can get theirs back.

The funny thing is if you read between the lines in that unboxing video they pretty much state the software still isn't done ( the game is free since the store still isn't up an running) lol. Sadly that was the breaking point for me to dislike the video ( was laughing that they turned off comments on the video) because I was curious what kind of parental controls they put in to make sure the child does not charge the parents card lol.

@@TheCrazierz part of a reason to have them up early would be for maintenance reasoning. you want to make sure the store works as intended and dosen't give any issues ( R&D time which the company can't afford lol). The other reason I can think like people have stated this video once again seems geared more towards investors, and if it wasn't it would have given people more light if they John had shown himself redeeming a "physical" copy of a game which can't be done without a running store and working encrypted URL ( which we all know how well they handle encryption based on their developer port site) lol.

The Slopes video was asking other KZreadrs if they thought these could be classified as games and opinions on packaging and delivery method. All of them disliked it

Too bad they couldn't have done an intellivision mini and added features. Would have been a perfect way to celebrate a 4 decade old system

This dumpster fire just keeps on burning...that is pretty sleazy to showcase a game (not even finished) from a defunct company. Knowing Tommy, he probably would have kept them profits for amico, since the dev was liquidated

The Amico will NEVER see a retail release. The pandemic be damned, other companies STILL found a way to release new hardware (i.e. Blaze and their Evercade and Valve’s Steam Deck).

You thought you could go a month without talking about the Amico? Not yet. Soon, though.. Quite soon. Soon, it'll be Intellivision Entertainment going bankrupt and the Amico officially canceled. Then, the updates will obvious die down. I still think that's coming before the end of April myself. You're four yards from shore now.

Watching all the videos 2 years later.. it is time for a full length documentary. Ian and Pat, you should make it!

I never really commented much on this because I doubt he intended the video to be portrayed the way it was, but I basically stopped watching Slope's Game Room with that Amico video. The part that peeved me was when after most of the guests he invited pointed out all the problems with using "NFTs" as fake physical game licenses, he immediately went to argue the opposite of them with no evidence, and then said that it "couldn't be done before" without NFTs so therefor using the NFTs was an acceptable solutions.. Not even going into the fact that doesn't solve the issues people are concerned about with digital games because.... well it doesn't, it also could have been done before. Even if the people he invited had pointed that out (I can't recall if they had or not), I feel it would have been best to have maybe asked some experts (and I mean software and networking experts, not "NFT experts") before covering the issue if he wasn't sure. Again I think this was just an issue of him going into a topic not fully informed and in turn giving his honest opinion without realizing how bad it would look, but it really rubbed me the wrong way, both in terms of being informed as a host but also in terms of considering his own guest's opinions.

I honestly don't trust Ibbertson (Slope's Game Room). His continued Amico support in spite of the evidence, particularly while claiming he's been critical of the system all along, has been highly dubious. More so when you consider that roughly half of his channels videos cover and call out various crowd funding scams. (Which gets into another issue, Ibbertson in particular refusing to acknowledge even the possibility that anything might by problematic about the whole Amico situation is probably enough to convince a number of less informed viewers that there is nothing to the various anti-Amico claims.) When his Amico video drew negative comments, he was clearly annoyed. When the Intellivision financial report story broke, Ibbertson's response was instead to complain about his commenters posting negative comments to his Amico videos, and that it might be the last we heard about it from him.

I was dubious of him being so un-critical of a crowd funded project that many thought was a scam with his content being mostly "look at this crowd funded project that everyone thought was a scam it was such a scam" but at the time I felt more concerned about what was clearly off from what I was familiar with, that the NFT usage is clearly a farce. That he started to even go against clear evidence of at a minimum, issues with the Amico is certainly more concerning.

@@BainesMkII I never watched Slope's game room, but I did stop watching ReviewtechUSA b/c of him deciding to jump on the Amico bandwagon to "own" Pat and Ian. He platformed Tommy Tallerico giving him multiple interviews and praise. That was the final straw for me after I had felt there was a huge decline in the quality in his videos in the first place.

I don't understand how some people think that making a retro console with their own games and whatever is a good idea and profitable, when wouldn't it make more since to put together a digital collection on the current consoles and online? Granted most of these are already available. I mean the Atari Box, the Chamelion, and now this.

I think it's a pretty fun idea. Would I expect it to make money? Of course not... The digital collections have all been done many times now.

The real question is though, is Tommy's weekly check in finished???

TIL choice provisions are also the devs behind the BIT.TRIP series. the original 6 titles are great retro-inspired games and you can see some of that same flair from their version of breakout

RCA Studio 3 here we come. We’re gonna bring back controllers attached to the console that everybody has to huddle around. That’s how you truly bring family back together. And I can say with certainty that it, too, will struggle to run rudimentary cell phone games just like its predecessor struggled with running Pong!

I just watched the unboxing video, and it seems like they said a lot of nothing in it. A whole minute was wasted on the language feature b/c this is the European model they are showing off and of course they have to mention that Italian is the second language b/c "It's Tommy's favorite!" And as far as the games go, they only show off four. I'm gonna stop talking about it, b/c I'm sure you guys will have much more to say about it next week, but they did turn off the comments for the Unboxing video lol

Loren Ipsum is standard placeholder text for graph designers, and programmers probably use it, too. I'm guessing they threw on the Starfox text when they weren't getting paid. It was a test to see if the Amico team would catch it. It's the perfect f-u!

I don't see how they think it's so strange to release an unfinished game. It's very common now, only difference is that companies today want more money for you to download content to be able to finish the game. Deep down you bought them because they're gonna be worth money in 40 years.

I hear tale of a treasure map with the coordinance to a buried treasure encoded in them thar nongames!

for the record i remember SLOPES comparing the amico to the SEGA PICO it upset me because the PICO actually came out and it was actually educational and fun for my younger brother and I even got involved in trying to find more games for it (which became difficult) this amico just tainted the gaming world.

Geezus. I bought the Pico for my niece and I ended up using the thing myself. I babysat her and I played it while she was sleeping. The Amico isn't even released. Slopes made a bad comparison.

Slope was very transparent about his videos of the Amico. He said no one from IE was paying him, and the only investment he has in the Amico console is a pre-order. That’s it. I doubt Slope is ignoring everything surrounding the Amico right now. I suspect he will have a ‘scammer’ video posted on his channel, once the dust settles.

I'll be WAITING for the AMICO Documentary in the coming months / years 😉

He earned his cash doing video game music, invested some money around wisely, hosted the shows, and managed to sell his music in ways no other video game composer at the time could. Obviously being related to Steve Tyler from Aerosmith didn’t hurt, but I don’t think he threw cash at Tommy as the other commenter alluded to. I think he just gave him the right contacts, and channels to make his money. This whole Amico thing is really sad to see, as the dude was quite accomplished in 90s gaming, shame about his ego. He used to give some quite harsh reviews on his reviews on the run segment of electric playground. This Amico saga seems like a Karma for that 😅

I do think you buying those trinkets make sense as you report on this. The way this company is going and the fans you know in 5 - 10 years you will likely have to deal with Tommy Gaslighting the situation and having the phyical product as the recipe of his failure to utterly shut that down as well as some peace of mind you have a smoking gun of proof. Legit of people that have bought them you should not feel dirty no one likely has more usefulness for them than anyone else on the planet. I do hope for your well being of being able to talk about other things that the company closes and we dont have the onion of bad like activision.
