Honestly, I thought it was damaging to his brand. Anywhere he did manage to get a reaction, it was largely negative. Apathy and negativity; two great signs when you launch A console. I'm flabbergasted he used half of the presentation to "remind" us of his own accolades. Progress has clearly slowed to a halt; the system and games seem no more ready than they were this time last year. There's little possibility of them hitting October (obviously, or they would have given their release date). The more time that goes by, the less likely it is that it ever sees the light of day.

I am almost 52 years old, so I remember the original intellivision console. The Amico seems interesting to me, however I would not want to pay over say $150. I just don't see it being worth anymore than that in today's market with all the other offerings from Nintendo and Sony and so forth.

But if the dad in the movie was Tommy Tallarico, it would be rated R due to the child abuse. It would be a horror movie where they try to escape because the game is like Grand Theft Moon Patrol or "Shark Shark: Directors Cut" where the object of the game is to eat people. Or maybe "Cornhole Darts" where the object of the game is to throw darts at butts, and the bullseye is the cornhole.

When someone mentioned all the thousands (so it's not just five haters with five alt accounts) of negative comments the stream was getting in real-time, Tommy said the stream wasn't "for them". When asked then why he bothered with E3 if it's not for people who would watch the E3 streams, he said "it's for developers and retailers". Well, developers and retailers who watched the streams and saw the FLOOD of negative comments would be idiots to develop for or sell the console. So it wasn't for them either. It was really for future investors who don't watch the stream. Tommy will make a pitch, show a clip, and show some web links to show "Look! We debuted at E3 just like a real company. Give me money!'. He's banking (literally) on people not doing due diligence. It's just like how the IGN Middle East (which I'm sure he'll describe to investors as "the Amico was showcased in an IGN feature") author wrote that he found the controller to have significant lag that WOULD affect gameplay. But Tommy to this day tells people (after going through half a dozen other excuses/revisions of reality) that "The author verified the controller had no lag that affected gameplay. You don't need to read the article. I just told you what it said. Stop. Don't look at that article!".

The Coleco Chameleon guys said the exact same thing, as well as talking just as much about couch multiplayer being so much better vs. scary, new-fangled online multiplayer. Even if that wasn't an "Old man 'In My Day' monologue" moment, AAA publishers say lots of times that their games won't have lootboxes or DLC. Square-Enix said that about The Avengers last year, and that game still had those things. You sound less suspicious today if you don't mention DLC or lootboxes at all.

The WiiU was expensive R&D. I'm willing to bet their analytics showed most people used the screen controller the same way I did, to play a game while the TV was occupied by my wife. Thus, the Switch is born. This device has nothing going for it that me sitting on the couch playing on my phone can't already do. What is the killer feature of this thing? Switch is great family games and portability. PS5 is great story-based games and loading speed. Xbox is Game Pass and system power. Tommy has not explained why the Amico needs to exist.

My thoughts - Amico video presentation was 25 minutes long, according to Tommy, and they had to cut it to 10 minutes. Yet he wasted 10% of that time talking about himself instead of putting more cut footage. - Same old games and clips with few exceptions. If I remember correctly, there was supposed to be one new game every week after launch. That's a lot of new games, that we didn't see, when we consider that this was supposed to be released last October - Contact wireless is not wireless. But what's more important, will those controllers have cable charging option? If not, if the contacts stop working for whatever reason, how will you charge your controllers? - Taking your games to friend house with a controller, isn't something new to be honest. You could do that with X360 by simply logging in into your xbl account. Sure, it's better if you can just take controller instead of logging in, I'll give them that, but still, it's nothing that you can't do on other systems. - This presentation was for hardcore gamers, yet it's basically the same presentation that we've seen before. - I think they really don't have as many developers on board as they claim, that's why we were seeing mostly same games for last two years - They still didn't show, how is this controller a game changer, and E3 was a perfect time to show that. It's funny that after saying how important Amico controller is for playing Amico games, when there's a game footage, most of the time people are using smartphones. So why do we need that expensive controller for, that's driving costs so high? EDIT: - Oh yeah, about that "chip shortage" excuse. Blaze managed to launch and manufacture Evercade during pandemic. Now, they are releasing completely new console. So how can they manage to do that? I think people working there must have overall more then 600 years of experience in the industry. And fun fact. I watched old Smash JT videos about Amico and VCS, while looking for his first video about Amico. He said that Atari is going to use the pandemic as a excuse to keep delaying VCS.... The irony kills me XD

True story: I made Tommy's acquaintance back in the day when I worked in the industry as a video game magazine editor (Tips & Tricks). He was one of my favorite people in the gaming realm, lots of energy and passion for gaming, a good guy. Even had him over the house for dinner once. Wealthy and a bit ego-driven, yes - but still we had fun conversations about games - and I viewed him as a really nice guy. I considered him to be a friend for DECADES - right up until about 3 years ago. I was working on an action adventure game and saw his Amico announcement, so I contacted him to see if he'd take a look at my game, maybe get it onto the Amico, you know? I even spoke with him on the phone about it. He said he'd call me back and discuss how we could to get my game onto the system. Guess what? He never called me back. I felt 100% abandoned by a guy I always admired and believed in. I think at one point he just let his ego completely take over. What a shame.

Big fan of Tommy from his time on Electric Playground, but this console makes no sense. The $249.99 price tag on this thing is going to be it's death sentence (even if they lower the price eventually, it will be too late). Why would even the most casual of gamers buy an Amico at that price when the Switch Lite is only $199? Or they could buy an Xbox Series S for $299.

Tommy argues that you can't play couch co op with the switch lite. But you can buy a refurbed switch from Nintendo for ~$269, and play couch co op. Tommy will counter that there are no pack in games. The price tag on the system especially doesn't make sense with forcing games at no more than $10. Either its for cheap casual play and the system and games are cheap or it's quality and it's at its current price and devs charge what they want. Who wants to spend switch level money to play cheap looking flash and mobile games? It's like if Sony made sure every game on ps5 was like farkle or cornhole.

The lack of anything new about Earthworm Jim is the biggest red flag to me. It makes me wonder if it's even in active development currently. Sure, a lot, if not most, games in development don't get shown off in their early stages, but this is their flagship game that they've already announced and shown a nothingburger of a teaser clip of. You would think that they'd want to show some progress, even if it was a heavily mocked up vertical slice.

I notice in the video whenever they try to show motion control working with an actual game, they use a phone and not the controller. With Farkle, it's a phone (with a huge amount of delay between the motion and when the dice show up on screen). He's bragging about the "haptic feedback", but he's shaking a PHONE. So that's not an Amico feature, it's just phone's vibrate function. He clearly only mentioned it because of the buzz the PS5 is getting with its next-gen rumble features. With the girl playing Cornhole, they try to hide the controller for most of it. But at the end of the clip for a few frames it's clearly a phone, and not that chunky, thicc monstrosity that's inconceivably based on the most uncomfortable and unresponsive controller in console gaming history.

Most people just ended up using it as an emulation box to play 8-bit games and it's fine for that. I think the point is that both the Wii-U and Ouya were made by sincere and competent people, but the ideas just weren't what enough people wanted for them to succeed. So what chance does the Amico have when it doesn't have the competence of Nintendo (or even the Ouya guys) and has an even more limited feature set than either one AND has a massively jacked up price compared to its power? I get they want to be different but the controller looks like the old intellivision controller mixed with a Dreamcast VMU. This will go the way of the Ouya if they don't get AAA titles on the Amico. Other than the obvious, its just hilarious how they trash this presentation because it honestly deserves it. While I hope it succeeds, it needs to get past Ouya level of hype and more.

Mark my words: the Amico will be the Shakespeare of the videogame industry, leaving upwards of 500 new words in its wake to properly describe it. the whole pitch would have sounded convincing to my grand-parents back in the late '90s/early '00s as a x-mas/birthday present for my younger cousins. They bought the original intellivision for my uncle back in '79. so they remember the name. Back in those days they were somewhat concerned about "killer games" and "non-child friendly content", as well as "playing alone in a dark room", so the whole "family-friendly couch coop" might have sounded interessting. Also the whole bells and whistles with motion control, touch screen and blinking lights would probably have looked futuristic to them. Then the Wii came out, and that marked was covered. By now, 20+ years have passed, and my grand-parents aren't buying consoles for their (by now adult) grand-children, or (teenage) great-grand-children. The whole '90s moral panic doesn't hold much sway with the my parents, and they are happy with the Switch for them and their grandkids, motion control, couch co-op and simple family games included. Anyway, it's now up to me and my siblings to buy consoles for the next generation, to us "intellivision" is "the old clunky thing we used bevore the NES came out", whatever "innovative" features the controller is supposed to have has been tried back when we were young adults and either became standard or failed miserably and have been discarded, and the games look like something the kids already play on their phone for free. So why should I spend cash on that stuff. The whole thing is AT LEAST a generation too late.

I am still hopeful, the updated version of Night Stalker looks like a lot of fun. Also, I reached out to develop a game for the system and they gave me no response at all. Multiple times I reached out, no response.

There are some good ideas. Transfer of license with controller is neat. The printing of a certificate is kinda lame but at the same point, that is all I got with all my microsoft certifications that cost me $1000s in tests soo? Not dealing with ads and gotcha mechanics will be a plus for any parents. Now if only it was not a POS :P

I guarantee you that the handful of dudes who constantly show up in like every amiico video and talk about how great it is don’t actually believe the console is going to succeed. See, I don’t necessarily believe that they’re shills, per say. Because I do think that they’re at least passionate about the product. It’s probably fun to fly over to California, be in videos/promote your channel, meet the team, etc. They probably LIKE amiico and enjoy being a part of the launch, but deep down they probably don’t think it will succeed either.
