    That footage is what we call revenue raising. A ridiculously low speed limit for a road that is designed for 80-100.

    @@MissFoxification the road has recently been upgraded from one lane both ways to multiple to accommodate for a massive housing development. no one ever does 60 because it is such a nice stretch of road

    Nah that’s in Fairfield leading onto the M3, he got unlucky it’s a 60km zone which should be 80km. I’ve never seen a single driver do 60 on that stretch of road and I live around the corner from it.

    The cop had two choices, book the cyclist for riding with no lights in that area or busting someone for doing 80 in a 60 zone. A 60 Zone designed to make money.

Where I live has had so many roads marked down in the past 5 years, the bulk of which weren't black spots or unsafe at the old speeds but coincidentally have either an unmarked speed camera parked next to the road at least once a week.

    @david smithe my tolerance would be 70 in a 60 (66 on gps), have seen too many people get pulled over near me doing 80 in 60, i dont risk it now.

    Yeah they were probably discussing whether to go after him but decided with so many people watching they can’t ignore something like that. Then have to decide whether to wait until the traffic starts to move or go onto the incorrect side of the road. Probably decided it would take too long to move the traffic in front.

    Why? It's not like you can do anything, and anyone who says they are perfect on the road is simply lying. They can occasionally give you something to think about to avoid, or, have a plan of action if you ever get caught in the same situation.

    @@Cheepchipsable ​I'm no way near perfect. It's the drivers that deliberately break road rules out of impatience and get away with it that I find frustrating. Read the comments and everyone is usually angry at some idiot driver, it's not just me getting irate. I've been driving for 25 years, no accidents, no prangs, a few near misses (and no, I'm not that arsehole that drives under the speed limit). You shouldn't have to watch dash cam footage to become a common sense driver while also looking out for potential idiots.

    I've never understood people who peddle that whinge out. No matter how you try package it or what you claim the cops do; the only way the Police can "revenue gather" is if you give them the opportunity to ticket you. You can't be fined for doing the speed limit and obeying the rules.

    There is a difference between revenue enhancement and really doing the job. If someone is driving safely but over the speed limit that's not a problem in the real world, unless an revenue enhancement officer goes after him. If someone is driving like an idiot and endangering others THAT'S when an officer who stops him is really doing his job, and I applaud the officer for that.

    Revenue raising... now that's a joke. If they touched 1/10th of the violations we have to suffer daily they could fund not only their entire department, but probably the entire *city* for a year. US patrol are a complete joke; they solely work accidents, never go after the *cause* of the accident until the asshole's stopped by wrecking (usually someone else).

    On most big sports bikes, unless the cops get the rego before the rider opens up the throttle, they never catch them. In traffic a bike can always get away, unless: speed cameras, bike cops, helicopters and.. The big one... Car pulls out in front of bike...

    @@yeahnahyeah7872 or its not a pursuit vehicle, possibly needing the go ahead to initiate a traffic stop, especially if it's in transit to or from another scene. Then there's working the logistics of it being worth the time given how embedded in traffic they were, then there's checking the actual opposing lane itself. Perhaps a combination of these factors coupled with the idiot driver taking an easy road for them to get him on. Who knows? I get it, no one likes the police, but to call someone a moron on their first day (wouldn't be driving) is kinda fucked, considering they're now learning on the job and in NSW at least are doing their third and fourth session Acadamy work as probationary officers. Bit harsh don't you think?

    The others have already answered but I just wanted to add; The original law (Slow to 40) was criticised for exactly the situation depicted. After a 1 year trial of the original "slow to 40" version of the law they updated it, in September (video is from Dec 27th), to be the "Slow or move over" version they currently have. While the driver should have known, it was 4 months after the change, I can also appreciate why they were confused and got it wrong.

    yes he made a mistake and was in the wrong but people forget that the red "P" is t here for a reason, they are learning give em a break, the y give you a special plate to warn others that you are inexperienced yet everyone expects them to drive as well as a full licence holder, they already get harsher penalties for trying to do their best while full licence holders get a slap on the wrist, i bet that cop calls a baby an idiot for getting its left and right wrong here and there

    @2:55 the P-Plater in the Subaru did the right thing and slowed to 40kmh when flashing lights, the Truck driver was in the wrong. Stupid rule anyway and the crash that nearly happened is the result. Glad they seen sense and changed it.

    @@TheMonkeynuts12345 I believe in most if not all states, it is stop on an amber light unless unsafe to do so. The vehicle had plenty of time to stop safely and didn't (well unless he was speeding and/or had bald tires - never know he might even have hit the quintuple of also being unlicensed and unregistered). I guess with the benefit of Seb's link you've learned something as well as been entertained.

    The car passed the stop line more than three seconds into the amber and clearly never tried to slow down, judging how fast it made the turn. So the argument that it was 'unsafe to stop' for the amber is out the door

    @@deathblue8 Would be my thinking. Except he had plenty of time to stop prior to entering the intersection. I went back and checked - there was a good 2-3 secs from when the amber light turned on before the driver got to the white line. In the conditions in the video, more than enough time to safely come to a stop.

    You're not supposed to enter an intersection when the lights are amber. The only exception I'm aware of is if you are at a speed/distance that isn't reasonably safe to stop at (e.g braking 20 metres before the lights in wet weather at 70kmph), but the police may still pull you over for not being more cautious.

    I once saw yellow before entering the intersection and thought of getting on with it. My bad luck, it was a cop car at the opposite traffic which triggered the lights for me. Pulled over & fined 413$ for not stopping on a yellow. Btw I live in Victoria.

    disappointing it took so long to see this. Yeah, slow down to 40 when you see the blue and red flashing lights. Then everyone panic brakes, and causes accidents on the freeway, and that cop got his leg broken when swerving cars slammed into him and his patrol car. That rule lasted about 6 months and have now just say "on freeways slow to a safer speed"
