    We're actually going through quite a transition. Since the 1970s at least we've used locally built V8s especially for Highway Patrol. Now with Holden and Ford no longer manufacturing in Australia and Commodore sedans and wagons drying up, there's the need to look elsewhere for vehicles. I think some states are trialling BMW 5 series, as well as the Kia Stinger and Chrysler 300C. The Mustang was originally considered but didn't meet certain WH&S requirements not the required ANCAP rating. Seeing a 6 Litre V8 Commodore or a 6 cylinder turbo Falcon with Highway Patrols is still common, but not for long.

    If I remember rightly, on about day 1 of police driver training they tell you that amongst other things, "flashing lights, a siren and a band of blue and white check doesn't mean your car won't be invisible to some. It also doesn't make traffic magically stop for you all the time. Mind you we always were crewed two up, so your partner also scans traffic as well, not just the driver. That's standard too with fire and ambulance.

    @@peterbartley9155 the cop that I nearly ran over didn't and if it wasn't for a witness that saw the same thing they would have tried to pull a "trying to kill a cop" shit just cause I had dreads!? Some cops are decent and some think like cowboys, you've got to remember it is always the public at fault, never the officer!? I suppose your going to say that doing burnouts on our dirt road was for "experience" like the cop said me, it had nothing to do with hooning, taking public property and treating it like crap or disrespect for the community? Doesn't look good when the Mount Cotton Training Centre is 2 kms away, all that infrastructure, yet they still drive like dicks!? Oh, another experience was crossing the Pine Rivers Bridge at 1am to see cop cars parked on the southern side and noticed a car heading down the wrong side of the highway, not one warning about the approaching vehicle that had been chased from 200 kms north. All that time and not one bit of "duty of care" to the public!? The old "we're right, F U Jack" attitude! Just saying actions speak louder than words, like the time I seen the Redland Bay Police run over the jet skis that we're paid for by the community, in the pursuit of a vehicle that screeched his tyres to taunt them? The Seargant was ashamed at how stupid they were, dumb is what dumb does?

    Those HWP cars have zero markings on the front and low profile lights on the roof so if you're not being observant they're fairly easy to miss until you can see the police markings on the sides. Strange choice for cars that are supposed to deter people from breaking the law, its almost like they'd prefer people to break the law in front of them....What possible motivation could there be for that I wonder?

  • @asneakychicken322

    @asneakychicken322

    6 жыл бұрын

    MonoMan better to do it that way, if you rely on just being a deterrent while present you'll rarely ever see anyone breaking the law due to your presence and won't stop them after you're gone, but this way you can catch the idiots who do want to break the law and punish them for it. Do you have the same problem with unmarked cars?

    MonoMan Here in Canada, the cops set up "bait cars" in high crime areas. A thief sees a car parked somewhere, doesn't know it's a bait car, and breaks into it. As soon as he's inside the car, all the doors lock and he's trapped inside. Then, he hears from the speakers inside the car, "This is the police. You are under arrest!"

    Very satisfying to watch. I see so many of these selfish, dangerous jerks getting away with crap. Nice to know that, very occasionally, they get pulled over.

    10:30 "Keep left unless overtaking" should enforced more. This driving is not only incredibly selfish but increases road rage exponentially and leads to another bad habit of overtaking on the left (due to selfish drivers such as this)

    P plater here, using 10:20 as an example I just want to make sure that as soon as sirens are behind you, you pull over to the left of the road, right? like even when there’s only a cycling lane and no where to not block traffic, eg this bloke should have pulled over straight away Cheers in advance, these videos hugely help learning to drive

  • @wookie_au7542

    @wookie_au7542

    Yeah as long as you do exactly what the people do in these videos you will be just fine... XD Yeah I'm pretty sure if it is safe you pull over straight away to the left. If the cop isn't happy with the position he will just tell you to move and it's no big deal.

  • @DanThinks

    Dylan just use common sense and make sure it's safe where you're pulling over. As long as you don't lead them on a pursuit like the bloke after the intro, you'll be right.

    First thing you do is check your rear-view mirror and look around to determine what type of emergency vehicle it is. If it's an ambulance or fire truck, move out of the way and/or stop, depending on the road circumstances. If it's a police car, swerve into its path and brake as hard as you can (faulty brake lights are a real benefit in this situation).

    I also want to state that the reason the person got pulled over was that the driver did not "keep left unless overtaking" which a lot of drivers do not do. Penalty for not keeping left In New South Wales as of 1 December 2016, you can be fined up to $325 and receive a two demerit point penalty for this offense. www.mynrma.com.au/cars-and-driving/driver-training-and-licences/resources/do-you-keep-left-unless-overtaking
