    Great idea. A socket could also be placed in the home to turn on a lamp that is controlled by the Wyze Cam (as ithe can up to 5 sockets). This way a "visual" indicator can also be seen in the home for the hearing impaired or elderly.

    I thought the Wyze Socket was a clever idea until used in practicality. I wanted a Wyze camera installed in a particular closet for security purposes. However, there are 2 glaring flaws: 1. I do not want the light bulb on all the time just to have the Wyze camera recording. I know I can manually turn the bulb on/off from within the Wyze app, but that is extremely inconvenient as I enter and leave the closet for just a few seconds sometimes. This issue would be fine if the motion detection worked correctly in all lighting situations, but it does not. That brings us to issues 2A and 2B. 2A. The motion sensing to control the light is bizarre. If the room is very dark it won't sense motion because the camera can't see anything to detect motion with! So it doesn't turn on the light when you enter the room when it is very dark. The work-around I've had to use is to turn on my phone's flashlight for a second or two and move around (lol). This causes the Wyze Socket sensor to finally detect my motion because it can actually see me. Obviously inconvenient and stupid. The camera doesn't detect motion in near darkness. Big flaw imo. 2B. If the room is too bright (not super bright, just medium brightness), the Socket won't turn on the light either because it seems to determine the room is bright enough not to need any extra light. This is annoying because I DO need extra light. So I again have fool the camera by closing the door partially-- just enough to make the room dark enough for the sensor to decide it is time to turn on the light when my motion is detected in the room. But I can't close the door TOO MUCH or the room will become too dark and then I have created issue 2A above. In conclusion, there are two extreme situations (room too bright [2A] or room too dark [2B]) in which the light will not turn on. I want to be able to use the light switch on the wall to control the light, without it affecting the status of the Wyze camera's power. Obviously you can't do that because it will turn the camera off every time you turn the light off using the wall light switch. It turns out I just wanted a way to provide power to my Wyze camera which is not dependent on light on/off state, but I can't do that with this device when the wall light switch is off. So this device doesn't work for my needs, and it seems it has quite a few oddities/flaws that would cause people annoyances/difficulties with certain basic setups and usage.

    I think the initial idea is great but a little ingenuity will go a long way - the main point of security is security so having a cord that can be disconnected in plain sight just isn't a good thing. I have a few of these and since I own my home, was able to drill holes into the cast light housing and then into and through the mounting plate to tuck it behind the vinyl siding for a clean, professionally finished look.

    This means I have to keep 3 other lights on at day time when one of the four outdoor socket has the camera installed. Or buy four of these with camera on one. That's extra $30 to power camera. Drilling it is...

  • @rickyoung3994

    @rickyoung3994

    2 жыл бұрын

    Exactly! I don't want to have to keep my porch light(s) on during the daytime just to have my camera powered up. Will need to figure out another way I guess. Actually, I forgot that this lamp socket does turn your bulb into a smart bulb. That means using the Wyze app, you may be able to control/set up a schedule for your porch light to turn on/off at a certain time. Perhaps you can do this while keeping your camera powered on without interruption (unless there's a power outage).

    They just need a motion and light (dust to dawn ) line with a sensor at the end to turn the light on or off , while the camera can still have power either way (of course if someone turn off the switch the poof there goes your power source )

    While I think the concept is pretty neat (I am considering buying perhaps 2), I think the design is poorly executed. Majority of porch/garage lights I've always seen or had have been mounted in the opposite direction (light up instead of down). Whats to stop water/moisture from getting in around the USB outlet/input? The other issue being I just purchased 5 v3 cams & the cord is disapointingly short from the camera to the extension, so much so that it's almost like a design flaw. First thing I thought of seeing how short said cord is, is what's to stop someone from just disconnecting it & stealing the whole damn thing (providing you don't/can't mount it high enough & securely enough)? On that thought what's to stop someone from reaching up & pulling the plug from the lamp socket itself, providing its accessible?

  • @Moog1337

    @Moog1337

    I mean, the “flaw” you are describing is applicable for pretty much any camera. Especially on the lower end of the price scale. As long as its reachable, you can just tear out the power cable or even the camera itself for that matter. The only solutions to that are either wireless, which has its own share of cons, or having a much more robust mounting and wiring system which won’t be $25 per camera.

    You clearly don’t understand finance. Have you not seen the videos where they’re constantly struggling for money? They’re not doing anything innovative. They’re basically just re-packaging stuff from China with some modifications. They designed the products like the vacuum and go to a manufacture of vacuums in China and then they work with that company to tweak to design. Not to mention the amount of competition for the stuff they do. Not a single home automation and security company is doing very well in the stock market. Let alone consumer electronics.

    Yep. You have multiple options for the bulb. You can set it to turn on when the camera detects motion and stay on for a set number of minutes (one minute, three minutes, etc.) and then turn off. You can set it to automatically come on at dusk and turn off at dawn. And you also have the ability to manually turn the bulb on and off at will with the press of a single button. This is all done within the Wyze app.

Or how about making good with people that bought your first generation oh monitoring only to have it discontinued three months later :-)
