I'm a real electrician... And there's a few things that are wrong in this video. 1. Your house being built after the 80s does not necessarily mean you have a neutral. 2. The load it not normally on the top screw of the switch, it could be either. 3. That neutral splice was horrible 4. The hook on the ground terminal should be going clockwise, so that the hook will tighten under the screw instead of coming off

That means the switch is getting power from the box the light is in, sending power to the switch box on the white wire, and the switch sends it back on the black wire to turn the light on. Because of smart switches whenever we rough wire a house I try to make sure there is a neutral wire in all switch boxes.

I wanted to use this device for my outdoor holiday lights, so next to the switch I also have a GFI plug that is connected to it. Is this device compatible? The light switch only has line, load and neutral wires, but the GFI plug has 1 black wires, ground and 2 white wires. Any suggestion on getting this to work?

We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version kzread.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

Ok, that ground wire is 4:49 is messing with my OCD. The loop goes clockwise so that it is pulled in instead of pushed out when tightening.

Great to see this new product at the Wyze pricing I expect. Now, I can afford to smarten-up more of my home’s switches. I am also looking for a 3-way (and 4-way) compatible Wyze switch. I’ll be waiting with my finger on the Pre-order button when you get there. Also, nice video, but I have never noticed any significance with where the line and load wires get attached. Anyone doing this should use a simple non-contact meter to confirm power is off before touching any wires inside the electrical box.

this video is ok for me or someone that know the basic in electrical wires, but for anybody else, you could use more info like: LINE is the cable that carry the power from the power sourse (electrical panel) to the smart swith, the LOAD cable is the one that takes the power from the smart swith to the light........... something like that

What if I am replacing one of two switches? Is there a wall plate to accommodate one Wyze switch next to a common switch? Or a Wall plate that covers second switch (e.g., no longer needed cause it's in the garage and I now have a Wyze Outdoor flood light/camera that negates the need for second switch)?

Simple fix. In American houses, the neutral and ground are one. With the included white wire, tie the neutral line into the ground. Connect everything else the same.

Are you going to have a 3 way switch replacement soon. Also when hooking the neutral tail up to the bundle of wires you should just lay next to the existing wires then put your wire nut on. And the person in the video on the ground wire he's got the ground wire the wrong way around the screw when you tighten the screw the open end should be going clockwise.

I have so many questions. First of all, I was waiting for this literally for years... But I just realized practically all my lights have 2 switches..... One for the light and one for the fan.... I saw the FAQ says it supports multiple gang setup... is there a guide for that? how would it work in regards to the area in the wall that is bigger (2 switches) than the one in the wyze light switch? (so many questions).... Thanks,

Wyze Switch will work for "ganged switch boxes" where you have 2,3,4 switches right next to each other. You just need to not use the Wyze provided single gang cover plate, and buy an inexpensive white ganged plate (2 wide, 3wide or 4 wide,) from the hardware store that has a "Decora" hole size for the Wyze switch, and then match the holes size for the other switches you are leaving alone.

@@phungn02 I waited to buy mine. I just bought 3 to try from Home Depot...so once I do I'll let you know. But I do use a lot of their products and as long as the fixture and bulbs are dimmable, the light should dim.

Any reason why I can't use this to replace a switch to my whole house fan? That switch has off, high, and low. I understand that I won't have two speeds.

Hi Eric! Wyze Switch lets you control your regular bulbs, Wyze Bulbs, and nearly all your other smart things. It can be used for appliances that consume lesser than 15A. Though it could work with the ceiling fan that meets its power requirement, it could only turn the fan on/off and not control the speed. The same goes for other devices. That being said, please make sure that your wiring is compatible with Wyze Switch here: support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406495405339-Is-my-wiring-compatible-with-Wyze-Switch- If you're still unsure about your wiring compatibility, we would suggest consulting an electrician. Compatibility for Wyze Switch would depend on two factors. Are your lights controlled by a Single Pole? If your lights can only be controlled from a single light switch, then it is a single pole switch and is compatible with Wyze Switch. Do you have Neutral Wiring? If your house was built after 1980, then you should have neutral wiring. If built before 1980, then you need to check your wiring. Need more information?

Interesting, mine was built in 1959-60 and does have it. All depends on electrician who did the work.

I ran into the same issue my house was build 1925. I bought the C by GE 3-Wire On/Off Paddle Style Smart Switch it doesn’t require a neutral an you can connect it to google/Alexa. It only needs a line, a load an a ground cable cost me $30 on Amazon

Well I have to say other than a few things wrong in the video it’s pretty good , but me being an electrician and all I need to point these out . 1 you turn off the breaker and then test it , 2 at a switch there is power in and maybe power out but just for what was really bothering me , I will give you that power is the line but where is the load ? It’s called a switch leg cause it goes to the $@-&);” light that it controls so please for the sake of the diy people out there can you please use the right terms or just tell them to put black to black and white to white unless of course you sending power up on the white lol

MOST smart switches require a neutral wire, because they require a return path for the control circuit to work. As for the 220v 50Hz, Wyze is still mostly in the US, and we don't use that here. As they grow, I'm sure they will expand their offerings.

Wyze at 2:13 he says "if there are more than 2 neutral wires in the bundle you will need the accessory wire, if you only have 1-2 neutral wires you can skip this part" this is completely wrong, no matter what you have to use the neutral wire

You missed the point completely... If you only have 1 or two, they will fit just fine in the switch clamp, if you have a whole bunch, it will be too thick for it, so you have to use thay standalone wire

You missed the point completely... If you only have 1 or two, they will fit just fine in the switch clamp, if you have a whole bunch, it will be too thick for it, so you have to use thay standalone wire
