Didn’t notice you cutting a slice in the brass stuffing tube for the locking collar to squeeze and hold the drive tube.

Not needed. Give it a squeeze and it'll hold just fine
G'day Scott. Never stop learning even the older I get I always seem to learn more. I think we absorb more info when we get over 65. You've got a good way of putting things across. I'd like to take advantage of your offer about the mounts. Could you send me the details where to buy them please? Thank's mate.

Hey Chris, sorry for the late reply but I missed your message earlier somehow. If you're asking about the nitro floor mounts that I'm putting in the Eliminator build, they are sold through Rattlesnake RC here www.allrc1.com
After aligning everything up and drilling and mounting the motor could the alignment tool be used to install the brass tube with greater accuracy vs going through all the alignment steps again?
@M5PerfHydros
11 ай бұрын
Yes, and that's actually a much easier way to do it. I already have a full video on installing the flex drive using an alignment tool. I did it with the angle gauge this time just to demonstrate an alternative
@jameswalker-pm2tn

I’ve watched that video a few times. I can see why this method is more accurate. I’m going to try a hybrid test. Align everything per this video mount the motor and then spot epoxy the brass tube in using the alignment tool then check to see if the same alignment is achieved.

Question, your off set with engine from center line, is that to compensate for the direction it runs in?? Just an idea, tack glue sleeve in place & then could you put tape on sleeve to floor inside then flip boat over & fill up the gap all in one go ?? Tape to create a fillet & put one layer of tape around the floor on the " Bottom", that would leave it just slightly higher the sand it flush ?? So you have a smoother flat tor would it be better to do a fillet??
@M5PerfHydros
Жыл бұрын
Yes, the boat is basically designed to turn. Going fast in a straight line is easy. Going fast in the turns is how you win! I thought about building a glue dam of sorts around the stuffing tube, but I've had that sort of thing "bleed out" in the past creating a whole bunch of grinding and sanding work for me later. Plus I thought basic fillet work might be easier to understand and replicate for the viewer.
Hi Scott. Have you discussed the possibility with Brent Byers of using a carbon fiber rod for the driveshaft as opposed to the steel rod? I have no real clue if it would last longer but its just a thought.

Love your content here! But I have a question, I see most of the bigger boats are built in balsa but have people started 3D printing chasis yet? or it will be to heavy for racing?
@M5PerfHydros
Жыл бұрын
Oh yes, much too heavy!
Scott, do you have any suggestions as far as a good starter engine for a 1/8 MLB Hydro? Would love to buy a CMB but have to keep the missus happy. LOL Zenoah? Cheap Ebay Chinesium? Appreciate your thoughts.
@M5PerfHydros

A gas engine is much too big to fit into an 1/8th scale hydro. Though I'm not familiar with a cheapo version of a nitro engine, there's probably something out there that might work. Another option would be to go electric, and for that I'd send you to Bill at Rattlesnake RC who could hook you up with all the goodies you'd need - www.allrc1.com
Did this shaft tube have an insertion depth mark for where it slips into the strut?
@M5PerfHydros

The early versions of this setup did have a scribe mark, but the more recent kits insert until it bottoms in the collar
How does the stud twist mount or if it does , effect the prop walk ?
@M5PerfHydros
Жыл бұрын
No effect at all. In fact, I can't think of anything particularly harmful that loosening of the studs will cause. It just hurts my sensibilities.
Love videos, I’m ready to install gasser motor. What’s the rule of thumb as to where to install, how far back from front of boat. When placing radio accessories and fuel tank how should the balance be. Saw another builder that stated should have 3/4 of pound at rudder when all done. Your thoughts
@M5PerfHydros
11 ай бұрын
Shove the motor about as far forward as you can. Typically this means that the spark plug should roughly be in line with the sponson transoms. The fore/aft balance point of the boat should be somewhere between the middle to the leading edge of the turn fin. There is no hard and fast rule regarding specific weight at any point as all boats are different. What you want is the boat "swinging" around the turn fin, with the weight roughly centered on the fin

Where's the "black tube" from ? (a link please?)

The tube is specific to the Brent Byers solid flex drive system and will not work with a standard cable drive. If you're interested, check out this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKGsqryFl7i-paQ.htmlsi=H9pE2UvL8afdK-qD

On cutting your countersink, slow as you can turn it, the better. Your drill is too fast.
