Great video. I Just bought a 51" gas boat off ebay and I'm installing a clutch in place of the direct drive. Your video answered a lot questions

My experience is you need to silver solder the flexshaft where it goes into the collet because the part where even you mentionedthe rubber band tightening like action, the flexshaft tightens up and does get smaller and therefore the cooler doesn't hold it no more, lost my share of flexshaft, props before I started doing this.

I don’t solder my cable ends but I do if I have a loose collet . Because it makes the cable end a bit thicker.. also I mark my drivedog by tightening the setscrew.

For a flat spot try 3 or4 of the cheap Dremel cut-off wheels all new to make it. I tried using a drill press to put a countersink into the shaft but you need a good drill press otherwise it will move. I've had a lot of trouble with some flex cable shafts being oversized, usually those made overseas as they're metric Add more gap for longer boats such as Crackerboxes, hydro's or Jersey Skiffs where the engine is way forward.

Pretty interesting, JJ! Great video! 😃 About soldering, my guess is it's like 6s on a quad... You really don't need it, unless you're going to a race. You know? But it wouldn't hurt either. BTW, I bought a small arc welder from China and immediately thought you were talking about that kind of "soldering" (in Portuguese it's the same word for soldering and welding)! 😂 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Hey, I have a flex shaft in one of my electric rc boats and I was doing a speedrun and it for some reason just stopped dead in the water and I took it all apart and there seems to be nothing wrong with the shaft, I grease the shaft after every 2 times of use, can anyone help me?

Flipped a little oil in your coffee when honing. Hope you didn't drink the rest :/ I watched this video to learn some basics as I'm attempting to convert the 1/4" flex shaft from a weedeater to accommodate an rc boat prop. To use as a shameful, yet portable outboard motor for my kayak. Looks like I'll need to figure out a way to attach the threaded sleeve (which you refer to as the stud/stub) onto the flex shaft. Any idea where a guy could get that part unsoldered and separate? Thanks for this video.
