Having learned of your father's passing, I was devastated. These videos will keep his memory alive for your children for the years to come. The sound of his voice will never be forgotten. I miss the sound of my father's voice most of all. Hes been gone 42 years. Keep being the man you are. You'll always be part of his legacy. I have waited for years to see this moment. From driving across the country, deployments, or sitting at home watching KZread, I have followed this build since I was a teenager. I’m 24 years old now and I’ve watched this channel flourish in a few short years. I still get excited and watch every episode from beginning to end. While you are not Richard “Dick” Proenneke, this log cabin and the land it’s build upon will some day be revered in the same manner. In many, many years after you and I are gone, I have no doubt that this place will be a protected museum for the world to see. You, Outsider, are wise far beyond your years and your skills are like no other. I know this cabin will last for hundreds of years because of your skills.

I work with my farther most weekends as I have built a new house and we are building sheds, pavers, pergolas, fences, storm water etc together. I cant imagine the enjoyment you and your farther had lighting that 1st stove in your cabin after years of work. Its so satisfying working with your hands, especially when you are achieving some thing for yourself and family, Been watching from the start and has been great to watch your progress. I hope you enjoy the memories that you have created with your farther for the rest of your life. I know I will enjoy mine and its been a pleasure watching you create yours. Cheers from Australia.

I just discovered your channel and I'm totally enjoying your cabin build. Watching you drink coffee next to your newly installed stove with your dad is a memory you'll never forget and fortunately you'll always have a video of it forever. My dad used to take my mom and my twin brother to a remote fishing camp in the mountains near Little Fort in BC, Meadow Lake Fishing Camp. We stayed in log cabins with wood stoves to heat the cabin and our hot drinks. My mom and dad and twin brother are all gone now but I have so many wonderful and somewhat sad memories of the four of us at the cabin, fishing on the lakes and enjoying the beautiful outdoors in Canada. I'm going back there by myself after too many years and walk those trails again to the remote lakes and enjoy the beauty of BC. I'm really looking forward to it but the memories of those past years with them will be tough. Thank you for the fascinating cabin build and bringing back old memories.

Thank you! Initially, applying the mortar was one of the most intimidating jobs I did on the cabin. ...If I messed a cut up while framing, I could always use another piece. ...but if I made a mess of the mortar, then it would be way more difficult to fix. Once I got the hang of it though, it actually became a very relaxing job to do.

I love to see the first fire in a cabin. I was told that many years ago in Scotland that if you wanted to build a croft house there had to be a fire in the house on the first day of building. in other words, if everyone in the village didn't help with the building it would never happen. This meant that the people in the village did not want you. Cruel but effective. You adopted the same principle with your barn raising where all of the locals would help to make it happen. of course, the house was at that stage very crude but it was weatherproof and a fire in the hearth

Wow, that is so touching!! I've been watching this series from close to the beginning, I'm not one of the first but I remember subscribing around 30-40k subscribers, back when you were known as "Outsidefun1". You've come a long way on youtube, but also on your log cabin. Even though I'm just watching you build it with your father, I feel like I've literally grown up with the cabin (I literally started watching in middle school, watched through high school on and off, and now I'm in college it's crazy). I remember when you were moving the boulders and literally only had the base of the cabin completed. Your constant clever engineering has been so inspirational. The ambiance of the log cabin in the woods, especially in winter with a light snow fall with the crackling sound of the fireplace and warm coffee inside the cabin is something I envision my dream home being: away from the distractions of the 21st century. Keep up the good work my friend!

On our woodstove at our cabin we have a damper pipe about a foot above the stove. It helps control how much heat goes up the pipe and it is really helpful you might consider actually adding that in the future

@@samvalentine3206 A damper is a Must Have.....unless the home owner doesn't mind burning double the amount of wood. I made the mistake of not using a damper years ago.....All your hot air goes right out the house, full speed with no burn control or temperature control of the living area.
