As mentioned by others, the plastic cable connector was install incorrectly. It should have been installed from the outside and the cable pulled through to the inside of the box. Also by code at least a 1/4 inch of the cable jacket must enter the box, not just the wires themselves.

The romex bushing needs to be inserted from the outside of the box, not as shown here. Also, the outer sheathing needs to pass through the bushing too, not just the insulated conductors. Both of these details are to help prevent pull out of the terminated wires if it's yanked on from the other side. If your existing box is closer to the center of the span between joists, use a different product than this one. Thanks for the video.

I was just going to say that. The connector is designed to keep the cable from being pulled out of the box. The way he put it is backwards and would allow the wire and connection to be pulled out.

We didn't have a power on the ceiling of the patio, and to bring it there I hired one electrician from a decent company "MileStone". He brought the wire there, but failed to cut the hole for the pan electrical box symmetrically, so the load bearing joist is going not through the center of that hole, but slightly shifted (not more that ~1/4"). The electrician attached the box not to the center of the stud, as a result, so the stud got slightly split, and the box itself was sitting on two #6 drywall screws (~1.5") and one big (~#12-14) short screw for metal on the end of the box. Maybe it would hold like that for couple years, but I like solid work, so decided to redo it. Not sure is it better to cut out the ceiling more (but then you need to patch it), or strengthen somehow the bottom of that joist in addition to the glue for wood "Gorilla" and pieces of wood I used with clamps to close the splits and unnecessary multiple holes the technician did. I would appreciate any opinion on the question: is it better to cut a bigger hole or just to strengthen that joist. Thank you for the great film.

Just read your post. I can’t stand shoddy workmanship. I do most all of my work and take my time. One method you might try is run a 2x4 between the joists and mount your box to that, it is stronger than you need or the contraptions sold. Just drill a hole for romex.

I am approaching a dilemma and I cannot find any info on my next task so I thought I would reach out and see if I can get some feedback. I have and am sound proofing my middle bedroom to be my new home recording studio. The walls are secure with triple insulation including 1-1/2 rigid foam insulation sealed with insulation spray foam. This room is not only dead silent now it is completely air tight...except for my ceiling. The only thing left is the ceiling. My plan is to also apply the 1-1/2 rigid insulation sheets to the ceiling. Once done the entire room will be completely covered in 2-inch acoustic foam panels. Here's my issue. I need to drop my ceiling light fixtures down about four inches. Wiring is not a concern, but I'm not sure how to securely drop & mount the box to remount my lights to clear the double foam. Your thoughts?

Looks like you could have just installed the bracket by by screwing it in on one side to the existing mount, then slid it over as far as it will go and the other side would extend to the are of the joist that you found (If its a little short file away some of the inner bracket to allow it to extend further). Then just screw the opposite side into the joist.

One God, electrician, cable/fiber optic/telephone technician, electronics technician(component level repair), data systems technician, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, robotics, sonar, radar, fire control systems, residential/commercial alarm systems, aviation electronics, HVAC, plumbing, welding, carpentry, roofing, ect... . Basically, yeah. Good to learn and keep your capital, in lieu of being overcharged. But sometimes, because of time, tool, weather and space restrictions, it's wise to pay an equiped tech./shop. Eg... tires, engine rebuilds, transmission replacements, transformer replacement, ect...

Thanks for the video! I found the repetitive background music to be distracting and annoying. I think your video would be more effective if you eliminated it.
