It has been a long time since I worked in residential electrical work, but I believe the Hubbell-Raco 2711B5 Connector, Squeeze, NMSC Cable, 1/2-Inch, Zinc requires an insulating bushing like Rigid/IMC 1/2 in. Insulating Bushing. You provide good tips and excellent process work. I may be wrong but If I recall correctly an uninsulated connection such as the one used requires by NEC an insulating bushing o minimize the chance of cutting the cable or wires.

Great video showing how to install a ceiling fan/light junction box hanger. I purchased the same hanger and went into the attic to install the unit. With the legs upside down it was easier to screw them into the 2 framework. Easy to install and makes for a very secure hanger for the ceiling fan/light I installed.

TY for sharing.... I was running through this same exact scenario I needed an answer for and never realized that there was this type of box. When I installed the ceiling fan I noticed a week after it came down a little bit from the ceiling meaning the box was loose and when I first saw the box it looks like they just screwed it directly into the joist that was running alongside the hole. It was a plastic box and not a metal one. So I'm going to remove the fan remove the box and figure out the best case scenario. Thanks again and you now have a new subscriber because you present everything in very easy to understand terms and methods and installations.

I want to remove those and replace them with flush mounts, but also add 2 more flush mounts totaling 4 flush mounts. Hmm don’t know why it won’t work. Just look on my channel for a video a couple of weeks ago about adding a ceiling box in an existing ceiling.

I would have stripped the 2 Romex coverings back to where they entered the box. It would have left you with more mobility to move your wires around. Also, I would have put a grounding pigtail to the grounding screw and tied the grounding wires together.

This is a downstairs ceiling so no insulation to deal with. I usually install recessed lights and fan boxes from the attic, if possible. But you have my sympathy having to deal with blown-in insulation.

@@handydadtv Ahh a downstairs ceiling. I would also normally install from the attic but I dont want to disturb all that newly blow insulation. I heard it doesn't insulate as well when you move it around.

Hi, I’m so confused so you don’t need to bolt the metal piece to the woods/ joist? Any way for the bar to loosen or once tight it won’t come loose? Thanks.

No need to bolt it. The teeth dig into the wood and then you attach the fan so it can’t unscrew.

What I caught is you put the Romex wire connector up in the ceiling the opposite way 😂😂 great video though appreciate you!

No, I did that right. The screws to clamp the wires always go outside the box.

It’s designed to be flush with 1/2” drywall.

I romoved a light fixture and want to install a fan. There’s only 3 wires, ground, neutral and power, do I connect the ground wire to the screw? What ground would I use for the fan then?

All grounds need to be connected together always.

I screwed the claw in as far as I could. Thankfully it was enough for me to fit it in the space.

These things are great unless you are working in a ceiling with a vapour barrier and blown insulation. It has to go above the vapour barrier and you have to plow through the insulation to reach the ceiling joist. You can't tell when it's seated against the joist. There is no real way of clearing the insulation from between the end of the bracket and the joist.

Yeah insulation sucks.

Don't think you are supposed to put two cables through the same connector. 1 cable per connector per knock-out. There is an exception in the NEC code for plastic single-gang boxes where the wire is stapled within 6 inches of the box - there you can remove the plastic box connector and put two cables through the same hole.

@@handydadtv yeah but professionally speaking you would go one a piece. Looks better and keeps the wires separated for trouble shooting. I usually la el the wires and write in the actual box with sharpie.

I live in a double wide Lucky I checked before installing ceiling fan The thing is The hole is closer to one side about 4” from the stud The 2x4 stud in the ceiling are 24” apart So I don’t know what to do now

I would cut the ceiling from stud to stud and add another 2x4 between them. Then attach a pancake ceiling fan box to the new wood. Then patch the ceiling.

You always have the option of opening the ceiling and patching it when you’re done.

There’s another video on KZread that shows pushing the weaker brace up through the hole until it unseats, or using bolt cutters to cut the brace, then force/pry the 2 pieces out.

Nice video. 90% sure that metal connector is for armored cable only though, not non-metallic like you have here

I’d probably use a pancake box and attach it to the joist. Four inches off center won’t be too noticeable.

How did you know about how deep the brace needed to be. Im a beginner with these braces.

It has flanges that sit on the back of the drywall so the box is automatically at the right depth.

would this work on a ceiling that isnt flat? the ceiling at my house is sloped/angled.

I just received the bracket you provided for us from Amazon. It has plastic end caps not metal like yours. Mine arrived with the end piece broken off. I went back and looked at the video again and you say you purchased from Home Depot. Why than give us a link to a whole different product? This one made from Weatinghouse is cheaply made
