I love the swimming ponds! Here in Florida almost everyone has a pool and as someone who grew up with one and now sees it sit unused 90% of the year, I think a swimming pond is so much more versatile! And way prettier plus less harsh chemicals. I would love a beautiful swimming pond in a lush garden.

Ponds are amazing, definitely number one on my “wish list”. We made a tiny wildlife pond out of my kids old plastic kiddie pool, and it’s amazing to see the frogs and birds and gather there in the summer. It’ll keep me happy for a few years until I build a bigger one.

Ok hear me out- Versailles! I just image you having a formal pond in that garden. Leave a walkway that rings the boxwoods (so you can still do maintenance) and have a circle pond with an island in the middle for your current urn. Maybe some ‘floating’ steps or bridges that divine the pond into quarters. Then you can have the pond flow into the new flower bed where the Blue Spruce was and have it waterfall into a more organic pond there between the house and the road. Two different looks with one water source. You already have seating in the portico and you would be able to see it from the living room, your balcony, the road, and the front door.

When it comes to algae, Greg always suggest to have an iongen installed to get rid of it. I think it's about 300bucks which is good investment to keep the water crystal clear especially during summer when normally algae builds up. Or you can choose an area where the sun isn't hitting that area too much to avoid algae in the pond.

So happy to share our pond with all of you. Wish I had a before shot, but they are actual photos. The yard was just open and unused. It is a problem to keep it clean, but use blue pond dye to disguise the color! Loved the bigger koi ponds, but we have hawks and herons always waiting for dinner. The water sound is definitely the best part, we are near a busy street. It makes me feel miles away!

I’m envious of yards with even moderate slopes/grades. My 1.5 acres is completely flat. Waterfalls are my favorite part of water features, unless they’re dependent on an artificial mound. It looks too unnatural to me having a big hill of dirt popping up out of nowhere. I know there are creative solutions out there. I just need to do some more research to find one that suits my aesthetic. I’m not going to give up on a water feature. It’s just on my “someday” wishlist of yard improvements

I grew up with 2 large ponds that my dad had dredged from our swampy NJ land, and we swam and canoed and ice skated all through our childhoods. One of them was stream that he damned up to make the pond, and so we had a waterfall at one end of the pond. He built a couple of bridges over them. It was undoubtedly the greatest gift he ever gave us. Not sure how practical it is to make a pond in your desert-ish climate, but if it doubled as a swimming pool, you would not regret it. And I'm sure the water would be even more appreciated in your dry hot summers.

This is great! My husband and I have been considering putting a pond in the front lawn since finding ground pearls in our beautiful St. Augustine grass. I literally cried when I discovered them in our soil! Once I got myself together I looked at it as an opportunity. My yard is flat so working out how to layer things while still looking as natural as possible has been hard. But to be able to sit on the porch in our rocking chairs and enjoy the view of a pond would be magical! And hopefully solve the ground pearl issue at the same time! Thanks everybody that sent in pics! Y’all are artists!! P.S. I’m in eastern NC zone 8a…

Aaron is wonderful keeping up with chemistry of your soil and timing of all your water needs. I think you should concentrate on the plantings and esthetics and Aaron could add his skills to keeping it balanced and crystal. There could be yet another way that your talents balance and complete each other. Let go of the insecurity and embrace your talents and beauty. You can do it TOGETHER ❤️!

All of the ponds shown are beautiful! My husband and I had a professional install a beautiful pond a number years gone by. It was an extreme source of frustration. It was also a money pit.

Wow! Lots of inspiration here. After much consulting on You Tube (where I found your channel, because of the pond installation!), I started building a small pondless water feature last Autumn, stopped for Winter and hopefully will finish now before Summer. I'm doing it all myself, so it takes muuuch more time, right next to the pavers-on-sand & gravel patio I built in 2020 with a helper. But wouldn't have it any other way 😸. I use copper in my jewelry so of course I have to add my personal touch. I fabricated a copper Calla Lily and Leaf to use as the spout. A huge 2x1 foot boulder that was buried where we dug out the patio has a superb flat side to use as the fall rocks. First, I need to chisel it in two 😬. I'm using a preformed basin, about 3.5 x 2 ft. and 2 feet deep in deepest part. I should be able to get out and continue in the next couple of weeks. So excited! Alysen in Île-de-France

Wow Wow and more Wow!!! Goals indeed! We had a pond when I was growing up and it was nothing at all like any of these. It was strictly a man made pond that quickly adapted to the woods it was in; the area was fenced off and very far away from the home...the one thing no one mentioned was the risks of having snakes! When I was growing up, I seen enough snakes, big water moccasins and even little garter snakes that would last me until we moved years later. My dad told us that it was all because of that pond!! Loved the pond, loved the goose but I could have done without all the snakes! Out of all these beautiful pond and water features, I think my favorite thing was all the rock that was used!! Amazing and phenomenal; there just aren't enough words for the beauty and relaxing atmosphere that these created!! Enjoy forever!! Thanks to everyone for sharing with us!!

Love all these ponds, thank you for sharing. Laura, I could see you adding a more formal type of pond to your garden. Maybe a rectangular pond with a raised edge and a fountain in the middle. The more formal and symmetrical ponds still look good with an abundance of plantings, water lilies, etc. And goldfish to keep the water balanced. It seems like something like that would really suit the style of your garden. And I, for one, would love to see you make videos on the construction and maintenance and especially on the water plants. As you said, that is a whole other area of plants and I would love to learn more about that from you!

Aaron and Laura, please do not let fear stop you from doing what your heart desires. You are wonderful attentive parents and I know that your kids would pick up very quickly the do's and don'ts around water.

Thanks to everyone who shared their beautiful ponds with us! ❤️ now I have to spend the next 3 weeks watching aqua scape videos obsessing over the fact that I will need a pond-less waterfall this season 😂😅😅😅

Oh, what gorgeous ponds, Laura. Love seeing what people do to make their peaceful sanctuaries in their landscapes. This was a great idea for your channel in the winter months. Gives us all a lot of ideas and broadens our view of possibilities. Thank you.

I absolutely loved this video. How great to see the creativity of all the Garden Answer family. Now I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Wouldn't a pond, stream, maybe a bridge, some lighting...be so beautiful and fun for the whole family?! On the topic of beautiful gardens, I sure would love to see ideas from the Garden Answer family for 1) Planting gardens for fall color and 2) Planting gardens for winter interest. Thanks so much! 🌱🌲🌷💕

Our local nursery has a koi pond, Love and admire it each time I go. But its sister shop ended up attracting a HUGE Blue Heron with their pond on a regular basis! Amazing what wildlife comes your way with a pond!

Once you get the symbiotic union between plants and fish it keeps the pond clear...we kind of struggled the first year...but after that it took care of itself with very little care

Just finished watching the video where you had the waterfall feature installed. I left a comment (2 years overdue, story of my life lol) that I'd love to see that beauty at night...the only thing missing was you showing it under the moon and stars... In the meantime thanks so much for all you do!💚!

If we didn’t have a swimming pool, I would definitely want a swimming pond. I just love them!

Laura, part of Aquascape's pond systems deal directly with the issue of algea and making it so you have very little to no maintenance! One of the most interesting things about them, is the larger the pond, the less maintenance there is! Check out Kamp Kenan's Aquascape ponds, he has 4 of them including a huge Recreational pond, all full of aquatic animals, crystal clear, in Florida!
