HOW MUCH does a RECREATION POND COST?? Swimming in a Natural Pool
A question I ALWAYS get, "How much does this cost?" Today, we are looking at Recreation Ponds, Swim Ponds, Natural Pools and talking about how much they cost. Also, we'll go through what it's like to live with and take care of one of these recreation ponds with our good friend, Alan Decker from Decker's Pondscapes in Pattersonville, NY

Absolutely love this whole yard. On the topic of water features.. I put a beautiful 5 tier cascading water feature right under my bedroom window once. Boy was it part of our lives. I strongly recommend getting a pond pump and some tubs and moving some water around at night, to get an idea of how much waterfall noise you want in your life.

Love this garden design and water feature as well! On our small urban terraced lot - 5500 sf (though directly adjacent a wild canyon and a couple miles from the ocean) in arid SoCa we lack a swimming pool but we have five water features: a lion’s head spitter onto a hanging wall bowl out front; a semi-circular former planter adjacent a flagstone dining terrace with a center mounted bird’s bath fountain overflowing into the small pool; a 5’ diameter pond with an antique hand pump filler and stone coping and benches, and two “horse troughs” between planted concrete urns on the lower terrace with copper tubing mounted on mesh powder coated frames against a green planted wall backdrop. All features have professional lighting and life is magical because of them.
This is epically BEAUTIFUL and so peaceful.
This is incredible! I am now adding this on my bucket list for my future property. 😎
This pond looks so nice and natural. My dream pool is kinda like this, but mine would sit next to a cliff and have tree branches hanging over so you could jump and swing into it, and also deep enough for high dives, might be cheaper get a house next to a lake or something at that point, but having your own pool is just epic.
If I ever get a big enough property, I would love to put in a recreational pond.

@@aprilmay1700 yeah to get it done in under a week, which is probably what these guys do. the logistics and labor salary to not make it intrusive and disruptive is what occupies most of the cost. these people cater to the rich with money to blow for something RIGHT NOW. the idea is that a diy-er can take months to do this for a fifth of the price. if you do all the labor yourself, what are you buying? some pumps and rocks? excavator rental?

I used to think like that, but after getting into the interior design industry, and seeing how people get scammed, or scam themselves doing dyi...I would defend the cost of professional, quality work. People just don't realize the equipment, materials (you don't see) and the engineering/planning that is involved. All outside the labor and the materials you can see. Also, this is probably a company that backs up their work and wont be avoiding you if you got a problem a year down the road. That should stand for something.
You guys should do more old inground conversions to ponds. There are tons of old unused hazardous pools around. I think I've only seen 2 aquascape videos from 2 different professionals.

Jaak, your rec ponds are amazing. I've been hooked on your videos, researching options to build a small pond of my own. Two questions: 1. How long do the liners last? Realistically, when will I need to replace them? Is replacing liners a big job in itself? 2. Do we need to have the pump for the filtration unit running 24x7? Thanks for showing us what is possible with natural pools!
@AtlantisWaterGardens
3 жыл бұрын
The liner is made of EPDM rubber and our ponds are built with rock and gravel that covers all the surface of the liner. What kills a liner is U/V light from the sun. As long as it's covered it greatly increases the life span of the liner (well over 20 years) and yes you need a pump for the filtration. Hope this helps!
