Inside the mix of XENOTAPH (feat. THE ULTRATERRESTRIAL CHOIR)

The song Xenotaph features the huge, fan-sourced THE ULTRATERRESTRIAL CHOIR! With the help of our friends at GEAR GODS, we provided our fans with a placeholder piece of music on top of which they could record themselves singing "Xenotaph, unbound" several times (some did 50 takes or more!!!). The band members themselves and friends and family of theirs also recorded hundreds and hundreds of tracks, and after stacking all these performances the result was a choir built from THOUSANDS of vocal tracks!

Per you are a genius! this album is very well done, it has many layers, super immersive. I just loved it. I don't miss listening to it any day, it's the best melodic death metal album of this year. this idea of showing parts of the mix is very interesting, it's different and very curious. I'm already looking forward to hearing the third part of this fantastic trilogy.

This video was a treat! just seeing all the organization and work that goes into layering that amount of tracks into the song. That is something i have a real hard time with with my mixes and like simpler but try to get a huge and wide sound. Great Video Per!

This absolutely blows my mind. So much work behind the whole album and it fucking shows! It's so incredible. I wanted to hear the rhythm guitar below Benjamin's solo so much though xD it's so awesome. I always go DUH DUH, DUH DUH, tutututuDUH DUH, DUH DUH (translation: the main riff of the song) while listening to it.

This is super interesting and insightful, esepcially when you're listening more and more you tend to pick up new subtle details that you missed before, but especially when you get to hear some things isolated and realise how big the picture is. I always liked that about music that has many things going on in the mix and layered well. I hope you'll cover some more songs in this way, my favourite being Hyperborean Plains! Is there any possibility you would release instrumental versions of songs at any point? Sjukt bra musik som alltid 🤘👽

I would love so much more of these. I have been trying to teach myself production techniques, and even just your little tip about putting a subtle phaser on the left and right channels for leads you mentioned in the Ola video is something I've been experimenting with. This video will give me all sorts of new things to experiment with. I would love to know like how the hell you eq so many tracks together without getting frequencies colliding with each other, for example. Your levels and eqs are all just 😘👌

Yes, I would absolutely love to see/hear more about the processes that went behind the mixing of this truly remarkable album. To me, Overworld and Xenotaph stick out the most in the album because of their heavy melodic and harmonizing emphasis. Those two tracks get stuck in my head the most. I guess I'd particularly want you to cover Overworld next, but literally covering any song would be fantastic. Thank you so much for your work, Per!
