Inside The Mind Of An Addict / Wide Awake Podcast EP. 6

In this weeks episode of the Wide Awake Podcast I spoke to Jarryd Smith about how he went from a privileged background to living on the streets. From getting arrested 8 times to working in a brothel and his near death experiences. We speak about all of that and much more.

I remember going to one of Jarryd's very first talks at Wynberg Boys and bought his book. Great then and even greater now, keep up the good work cause you're changing lives. Well done to both of you for inspiring our youth and possibly even the older folk too.

I was gifted your book by my daughter who was the photographer at your wedding. What an amazing book, a must read. God bless and thank you for the wonderful work you are doing to uplift our youth.

Brilliant interview. You are creating a safe space for people, watching or listening to this podcast; especially this episode; that they are not alone, and that G_d is not finished with you yet. People that walked a road of addiction, or abuse, or neglect can easily feel ashamed, even being a survivor. Especially by people judging your past, and questioning who you are today. You will find this especially in christian sircles. Where following Jesus is like one of the many, many religions; and not a clear revelation or relationship with Him, that is closer than a brother. You have to win their approval by fighting against the label of being broken, or not fit, or not healed, or not ready for life, or even not good enough for being favorited. That will become another level of struggle. Thank you so much for sharing a powerful testimony of hope, freedom and a new life. 💙💙💙💙💙

18:19 I think the interviewer misunderstood Jared- he meant the gang said "stop stealing from your parents"... Not the parents that said that..

The one negative thing about recovering from drugs or alcohol, or the steps you go through in AA, is that you become religious. "God" didn't get you through that shit bro, YOU GOT THROUGH IT YOURSELF by being a strong dude. Own it.
