Inside the Menendez Movement l 20/20 l PART 5

Jose and Kitty Menendez shot and killed in their home: Part 5
In August 1989, the Menendez parents were killed in their Beverly Hills home. Their sons said they were at a movie before they found their parents dead. Police didn’t immediately suspect the brother.

    Per part IV, one or both of the parents killed their dog over a ferret and the boys discovered the dog's head in the refrigerator. If people cannot grasp this kind of evil and emotional abuse, then they cannot understand the Menendez brothers.

    The brothers never wanted the parents dead because if being abused. They had an unreasonable belief that they parents would kill them. They were not ecstatic that they were dead like you are implying. They have tremendous remorse over it. That should tell you something.

    @@kaylinwhite6584 You can have remorse over killing somebody even if that person was your abuser. The fact that they still had remorse says more about their character than that of the parents. Victims often have complex emotions towards their abusers and it isn’t as black and white as you are implying. Additionally, it isn’t an “unreasonable” belief that their parents would kill them.... they literally found their dogs head in the fridge...

Having a mother, who willingly put you up for abuse for her own sake, the betrayal is immeasurable. How can a mother let her own children, the very ones that came from her womb, lived years of torture and sadness in the hands of another person who should have protected them all along.

    According to family members, yes. Kitty's father was abusive to her mother and would beat her in front of the children, and he was violent towards Kitty's brothers as well. Kitty was sent away at some point, which led her older sister to conclude that she had been sexually abused by someone. Jose's sister has long suspected that their mother sexually abused him and she even witnessed the mother fondling Jose when he was a baby.

    wtf is this, i have watched the series till now and the fact that the pain, assault and trauma these brother have suffered which made them the way they behaved in the future is getting neglected as it’s nothing, the human behaviour is parallel to what’s happening in their surrounding and how they’re treated by people around them, i just badly hope that these brothers had a better life than this.

    Gen Z don't want them out because they think they are innocent angels. Prison mainly is meant as correctional facility. Meaning if the person has served time, grown and is not considered to be a threat anymore, there is no benefit to keep them in prison. Vendetta is not how we should live. For example, someone like Chris Watts is more likely to kill again than these two, because Watts is a covert narcissist with sociopath tendencies while the brothers were driven by anger and greed which we all feel. Therefore if they are viewed as threats today still, may as well entire human race should be in jail. That's why you have to go case by case with every detail looked closely.

  • @evantyler888

    @evantyler888

    I agree with you, except I think you might overestimate what Gen Z feels. You seem to be very thoughtful. However, the comments I've seen from people just learning about this case have not been quite this thoughtful. They've simply said things to the affect of, "These boys shouldn't have been convicted; their parents were monsters." Furthermore, I totally agree that prison SHOULD be a correctional facility, but it is not. It is a product of the "penal" system, which means it is also intended to punish in the pursuit of justice. I'm personally against many of the lengthy sentences, but I recognize that the argument is a matter of philosophy based on our society's tendency to hold justice as a greater value than mercy. It's an argument worth having. Take care and keep being a careful thinker!

    I'm not sure about any of this. Lyle seems like he did suffer sexual abuse. They were both troubled, rich, out of control teens. They said they killed their parents because they were afraid, but I haven't heard what they were afraid of that weekend, because the abuse had gone on for years. They went out and bought guns, obviously to kill their parents. Things don't look so good for them when they went out on a buying spree after the murders. This new evidence might allow them to get another trial. I'm not sure why the sexual abuse was not allowed in the second trial.
