I was quite convinced that the boys were horribly abused as they said they were. Then, just today, I read an article in Vanity Fair that really changed my mind. I think that they killed because Jose was going to cut them off financially, due to their burglaries and their spoiled attitudes to their allowances. I think that Lyle was probably the mastermind and definitely was the supreme actor in court, coming across as very convincing. There are a few reasons, listed in the article, as to why I changed my mind about the brothers. One, for instance, is a play cowritten by the younger Mendez brother with his best friend, a few years before the murders, of a rich kid shooting his parents in order to get an inheritance.

They were truly broken and destroyed by their own “parents”. Parents do not sexual abuse or let children be abused without doing something. Parents are protectors and providers. Those people do not deserve to be called their parents. It think them cutting of them financially was a super fucked up blow to the kids. Especially considering the circumstances. I think their whole life they were told money is above the law, that why they probably never actual reported them. Cause they were truly told that if you pay enough money you can get out of jail. So, I believe that is why they shot them instead.

But i have to disagree on these comments about expecting these men to report their abusers etc. People who have been abused they don't see the same options that someone who is robbed one day does. Esp children who grew up in this. They form bonds with their abusers (one of the bros talked about admiring the dad cause he was strong etc), they think whats wrong is normal (the older one talked about touching his little brother like his dad did to him...), you go thru these things, you don't just think, "oh I'll report him now, This guy who has so much money, many friends, powerful influence, he's gonna be punished for what he's done to me." According to Alicia Hercz, neighbor of Menendez family, quote "The children opened the refrigerator one day & found their dog's head inside." Looks like the father killed the dog in a fit of rage because he thought it had killed the ferret! Everyone who knew the father described him as someone who scared them. He had a mistress in New York, one in L.A., & used prostitutes too. A man who does all these things but doesn't want anyone in the circle of friends and family to know about it MUST, as a matter of pure logic, USE ANY MEANS NECESSARY TO CONTROL HIS WIFE & CHILDREN. That's the basis for Jose Menendez's abusive Death-Grip on his sons which in turn became the basis for their premeditated murder of their parents.

IMO, of course. We all are here only speculating. But when Lyle's ex-girlfriend testified about researching for him about child abuse cases in families, - it rang my bell. Sure, he could have been doing it as a survivor... But also as a very meticulous person, that seeks to forge alibi for himself many months prior, just like he did with cinema tickets and restaurant. Why would he ask to research something so intimate for him? Why would he randomly spout such accusation in front of mother's friend right when she (mother) threatens to write him out of will? Why he only got activated 2-3 months prior? You know, what's funny. If ex-girlfriend lied and still took that engagement ring, - Kitty was right about her. If ex-girlfriend didn't lie and engagement ring was a ransom for silence, - mother was still right about his choice of women. Pardon my long reply.

@@eliciaeldridge3452 True story. My son's father is a multi millionaire. He wasn't when I met him but he became one after I wrote a business plan. This is ironic but I used to write code; hard drive coding. When I saw the original Melendez story in People magazine; it gave me the idea to get into software instead. At the time, we weren't engaged nor did we have a son. Long story short, we became millionaires within a year. We traveled the world, bought houses, blah blah blah. After 5 years, I got pregnant. He became abusive. I walked away because my priorities changed and our son was my riches. Also, my ex is a British caucasion man. I fought for my share of the business and lost. Back then, a young black code writer was an anomaly. He exploited his privilege and actually, I used him as a front for my business idea because I knew it wouldn't be successful coming from a 22 year old, short and petite black woman who knows her worth. That wasn't allowed back in '92. You had to be a sex kitten, a church lady, or debutante to be taken seriously as a black female entrepreneur. To this day, his father is wealthy and I 'get by. The whole legal battle changed me. When I left, I went to live in a shelter for abused women because no one believed me and I needed support. He had been ideal until the pregnancy. If Kitty would have fought him as a rich and white woman; she would have won! If I left, she could have.

Kitty's disgraceful poor excuse of a mother. God do not rest her soul was losing herself and unhappy bc she allowed her disgusting husband to molest her children and yet he still had affairs. Free the Menendez Brothers! That type of guilt as a "mom" would haunt any human being.

Jose was such a wealthy man to have whatever kind of sex at his disposal in no time....why on earth would he risk that much ( his legacy, his rep, his offsprings.....his everything) abusing his "own blood" Moreover he was expressing concern about Eric being gay, making him one for years. Contradiction is vivid

Anybody would think, by the way the brothers are portrayed here, that they were on their mafia L-plates. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, these boys were from a privileged family. Yes, they spent money freely. Yes, they lived the Beverly Hills lifestyle. And, yes, they might possibly have been a bit cocky as teens. But, aren't we all at that age? These factors were a given, in lieu of their "comfortable" circumstances - financially, at least. They are painted here to be "unruly" and "spoilt", with a total sense of entitlement - as though THEY were the root cause of the family's fractured dynamic. WRONG! Every aspect of wealth and liberty aside, Lyle and Erik were being molested, raped, psychologically abused, belittled, invalidated and neglected from the time they could walk. The problem with the average person is that, when wealth comes into the landscape of any crime, it becomes ABOUT THAT. Every other element that makes up the ENTIRE picture is completely ignored by virtue of the assumption that money is such a monumental and driving factor behind the event! The Menendez brothers were not raised in the proper and traditional sense that most functional families would understand. They were pressured to be perfect for their parents' sake and the family image, yet they were completely disassembled inside the home. I'm sure that any child who is brought up in a materially wealthy family, but is shown no genuine love and nurturing, will develop some kind of sense that money suffices for the lack of real affection. This, however, does not automatically donate that these boys murdered their parents for money. And this is the focal point of this whole case that really pisses me off! They were being damaged, regardless. They were going to grow into adulthood with one or several forms of dysfunctional behaviours and outlooks anyway. Their "crimes" were the result of horrors that stretched back way further than their concept of money that was to develop much later in their lives. Lyle and Erik's teenage behaviours were really no more serious or concerning than those of any average male in the same age bracket. Yet, we are somehow able to very conveniently turn a blind eye to the absolute and harrowing REAL crimes committed by José and Kitty for so many years and focus, instead, on how "evil" their sons must have been because they're the ones who committed the murders! It is sickening. Lyle and Erik are not "criminals" in the traditional sense. They were - and are - victims of crimes against THEM. The whole concept of the realm of money that we collectively have as a human race will never cease to perplex me. It is all too often used as an excuse. In this case, it was the system that used money as an excuse against Lyle and Erik Menendez... Not the other way around.

i get how people are upset that they got time, and i feel horrible that they went through that trauma and ended up in prison but also a murder is still a murder and there is only so far the court can go with letting murderers go. of course its sad that they ended up in prison after trying to get away but also it takes a lot to murder somebody and even think about doing it. so yes they are guilty of murder but also they are victims so making the decision to lock them up is hard but they did need to spend time behind bars.

Parents got what they deserved. I can't understand the madness of an abusive father, but I abhor the fact that the mother allowed it to continue - evil personified, not love in any shape or form. I'm glad she found out about her father's affairs as she partly paid for turning a blind eye to the abuse. Disgusting human beings of the worst kind.
