Inside the Art Studio: Exploring the Creative Process - Part 6: Just Going for It Art Prompt

In this episode, I talk about turning off your inner critic and taking time to create art that is judgment-free. Just make! Just go for it! There is power and freedom in letting the creative act move through you without censorship or judgment. I am working on some watercolor paintings with that exact thought in mind. Explore your creative mind, and let your art process be criticism free from time to time!
Series Description: In this series, I’m sharing the ups and downs of an artist working in the art studio. You will get a behind-the-scenes peek into my creative process, from start to finish. My aim is to offer an honest, unfiltered version of a day in the life of a full-time artist.
My goal is to inspire you to feel comfortable with and embrace your own personal creative process and avoid common artist blocks due to technical issues, self-doubt, isolation, lack of support, etc. I want to help motivate YOU to get started or just to relax and enjoy some creative problem-solving!

It's always great to see another artist's process and always happy to see one of your videos appear in my feed. I've been having a rough summer, a combination of grief over losing my very dear studio cat to cancer, and fighting some very stubborn bronchitis which is slowly getting better. At least I managed to clean up my studio before I got sick. Yesterday, I went in there and listened to records, and tried sketching something different than my usual figurative work. Just being in the studio at all has been challenging as the absence of my kitty Miss Kingsley has been palpable. I don't know yet what paintings will result, but at this point, I hope there is any painting at all. With time, I'm sure there will be.

Patrick my most sincere condolences for your loss of Miss Kingsley. She sounds like an extraordinary kitty. Wishing you comfort as you mourn her loss and hope soon some of that comfort might come from the creative act. 💚🌿🙏

I appreciate so very much your encouraging and inspiring words and insights. An artist friend of mine tells me I think too much about painting; simply let it be an extension of me to the canvas. He's right. Your statement about letting the creative act move through me without censorship or judgment hits home for me. Let that creative spirit flow without overthinking. After 9 months of not creating in any way, I've begun to just let it flow. I may not be pleased with the results, but I'm in the studio creating, which is the important part. Thank you!

hi Michele, I loved seeing your shapes and then exploring Robert Powell's website. I have done symbolic shape paintings, but have not delved as deeply and completely as you do, into one particular shape. Maybe now is the time for that. Thanks!

Hello Michelle. First of all- I have loved you for a few years now. You’re such a bright warm energy all the way over here. Hope to consult. How do you recommend I frame (if at all) and ship a painting that was made from multiple layers of liquitex pouring medium? Having a hard time since it’s a little bit delicate even when fully cured..
