He Reminds me of: “The old man was thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck. The brown blotches of the benevolent skin cancer the sun brings from its reflection on the tropic sea were on his cheeks. The blotches ran well down the sides of his face and his hands had the deep-creased scars from handling heavy fish on the cords. But none of these scars were fresh. They were as old as erosions in a fishless desert. Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated.” - Old Man and the Sea

Beautiful. He seems genuinely at peace with his artwork and his decisions in life. What a rare and refreshing perspective to witness...so often I feel like older artists can seem bitter and closed off, but this man seems very honest. Thank you for sharing this

I loved it when he said he sculpts fish instead of naked women because otherwise he would be considered a "viejo verde" (which is translated in the video as "dirty old man"). I think it is way funnier in catalan but I can't think about other translation. Thanks for this fantastic film

Absolutely splendid short film, very well executed :) His life seems so peaceful and fulfilled, he's followed his own artistic instincts and shared it with others. Very inspiring!
He really describe a life of artist. *Be isolated, creating, seeking inspiration in nature.*
It is an artists dream to create freely. Free from criticism, free from doubt, free to create, free to live the artists life. The life that can not be explained nor defined. Few get to be this lucky.
That shot at the end... Brilliant.
Gosh, what a lovely place he lives in! That farm house, the surrounding forest, gardens, etc, all exquisite! Lucky man
"I'm happy with my life," he says. Makes me smile and inspires me more to keep going. Great messages ^^
I am in absolute awe about how the camera movements and frames transport a deeper understanding of who Joan Garda-Artigas is and just complement him perfectly. This is such a wonderfully executed video, really impressed!

A very trustful and humble narrative of an artist. Liked the way he put it: “people say I should meet her, so I met her for lunch and it last until now.” A short clear description yet trigger the imagination of the unsaid. Brilliant story telling style. Thanks for the tasteful short film.

"I'm happy with my life. It has been long and intense. I've done many things. If I had to choose, I would do it all over again." Wow. Just wow. Not many people can say that in their old age. He's so content with his life. Truly inspirational.
I sense his wife is pure magic, would love to see her work too.
4:20 that last frame is just perfect.
Ahhh that was beautiful. The way it was filmed and the story of it all. The awareness of himself and his life articulated so well. I’ve always been so envious of these artists at peace living in gorgeous homes. That’s the dream!
I loved when he said.He was taught not as master but as a friend. Sent that to mine and I'll never forget it.
I feel like I had a major “aha!” moment whilst listening to this man. In fact I feel like there might have been more than one. I can’t yet put my finger on what they are though, so I will watch it again. But before I do, I just wanted to say thank you for bringing me this.

@@janemorrow6672 I think it was the realisation that I too need space to create, A LOT of space... and to see that farmhouse, and understand what my creative space could look like, was the major aha moment... I have since rented a much larger space in an old industrial building and I love it! And I have this video to thank for it. I also realised I need to learn to put aside the professional aspect of my job in order to not kill my creativity (something elizabeth gilbert also said in her book Big Magic)... That I too am a complex person (isn't everyone though?) and that I don't need to feel shame about that when attempting to describe myself to people... That my identity and spirit are whats most important, and that is how art is created.

Pure old school Spanish artist. It seems like a journey through time. Wonderful.
Absolutely gorgeous film. That ending shot is so beautiful.
All of these In Residence videos are truly truly enjoyable works of art. They beautifully portray the unique individual and each home is, to me, a dream.
"I'm happy with my life" Wow! One of two most powerful definitive statements that anyone can say. The other of course is "I love you".
What a true artist. So lovely to have a glimpse at his home with his wife and to hear his wisdom and stories.
This is so lovely; beautifully shot and the sound is enticing. Well done, Marc.
Qué maravillosa voz así como su decir directo, simple, claro. Y su arte, muy bello. La película lo expresa preciosamente también. Gracias!
also loved the ending with his bright face in the mirror in the dark corner
I love this guy. I want to buy some of his ceramics although I’m sure they are not cheap. His home and the land around it seem so tranquil and peaceful. I’ve always dreamed of having a farmhouse studio with beautiful land around it to draw inspiration for my oil painting. I’ve always envied the old impressionist and post impressionist artists who lived in the hills of France, Poland, and Netherland’s countrysides.
I would definitely enjoy a longer cut of this video! It would've been a treat to hear of his time and experiences in the swingin' Parisian art scene during the 60's and 70's.
The production quality is amazing. Kudos to the team for achieving this.
4:19 beautiful end theme shot. actually wonderful!
those windows to that view is a artist's inspiration on it's own.
Oh man, what a beautiful place, just fell in love with the atmosphere. Even a layman may become an artist in that surrounding.
A beautiful house that's a studio with many rooms where you create using different mediums in each room, with large windows allowing natural light and be able to look out onto nature. My dream house.

Love the house. My favorite line from this is "Whenever I find an empty room I convert it into a workshop so that I can move around." That's so funny. And perfectly captures his attitude to the world.
I really wish this was a longer interview, I feel like he has so much to teach.
There were so many beautiful shots with the camera, and I loved listening to him and seeing his process.
so beautiful. I love at the end when he says he would do it all again. He seems like a peaceful man.

That was very interesting, thank you, i am glad it came up in my feed. I am an artist from Ireland, i have been drawing for years , i love Salvador Dali, Picasso, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, William Blake and a lot more, and only now i am taking up the paint brush, but i want to master drawing first, so for now i will do a little bit of painting, but i would also like to do ceramics and was looking at some clay in an art store the other day -- i would like to do this some time soon also. By the way, what a beautiful house he lives in.
