Inside the Art Studio: Exploring the Creative Process-Part 8: Mixed Media Art Making & Space Set Up

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What tasks do you tend to avoid doing in the art studio? What strategies can you share for how you work through them? What about your organization? Is there something in your life or creative space that needs labeling or a system? Making mixed media art has changed how I organize my creative space and how I work. There are some tasks that are still a part of my creativity in the studio, like preparing and varnishing wood panels and setting up for acrylic pours. Since I started doing collage there are new tasks such as making collage papers and fabrics and organizing collage materials. What do you avoid doing in the art studio? What strategies can you share for how you work through them? What about your organization is there something in your life or creative space that needs labeling or a system?
Series Description: In this series I’m sharing the ups and down of an artist working in the art studio. You will get a behind-the-scenes peek into my creative process, from start to finish. My aim is to offer an honest, unfiltered version of a day in the life of a full-time artist.
My goal is to inspire you to feel comfortable with and embrace your own personal creative process and avoid common artist blocks due to technical issues, self-doubt, isolation, lack of support, etc. I want to help motivate YOU to get started or just to relax and enjoy some creative problem-solving!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I appreciate your calm and your wisdom. I continue to work through cleaning and organizing with a little reorganizing. It remains overwhelming and if someone else looks at my studio they will only see mess. However, I see and feel the progress. I used your idea of boxes from a previous video to help sort papers and paints and put them on my cleaned off shelves. I had previously used that side of my studio as a teaching space when I taught my 2nd grade niece during lock down during the pandemic. That's been a while ago and it took me this long to address my over-sentimental self and slight hoarding issues. Those spaces are are now calming and pleasing as well as helpful in the creating process. I finally broke through my months long block of not creating anything and there was the organized spaces to help me begin again without frustration. I credit your encouragement, ideas and knowledge that you share in helping me. I always think I'll make my comments short but end up rambling on. Apologies.

Oh no apology necessary! I love hearing about your process, your studio, your triumphs and success in making your space more supportive to making. I most definitely can relate to the sentimental side. Maybe not so much in my studio, but in my home. I hold onto things that probably will never serve me for any future, purpose, spiritual or material. Over the course of our lives we can accumulate so many things! And it takes time to let them go.
