I picked on you for calling SE Oregon, Central Oregon in another video, going to do it again, lol. That area Steens etc is NOT Central Oregon, it is SE Oregon, Central Oregon by Oregonian's definition is the Bend, Madras, Fossil, La Pine, Prineville region, now Crack in the Ground, Fort Rock etc is more or less getting into Central Oregon, next time check out Hole in the Ground which is very near there. Steens Mountain area is not an area you want to run out of gas in. Love your videos, new subscriber.

Something I learned as a kid when we took our annual two week summer trips along the Washington and Oregon coasts, was that my parents always did it backwards in my view. They would drive the 1.5-2 hour trip from Washougal to the first campground near the Columbia River. From there, depending on which state we were touring the coastline in, we just kept traveling further and futher from home. Then on the morning of our last day, we spent 8-9 hours in the car getting back home. I have since made it a goal to drive to the furthest destination we plan to visit on the first day. Then travel our way back towards home over the course of one to two weeks. That way on our last morning we where home in 1-2 hours, but not totally exhausted.

I really enjoyed the film! Thanks for the fun and reminders of why I love eastern Oregon sooo much! One thing I learned many years ago is that the best camping spots are NOT in campgrounds. We never plan on staying in a campground. It ties you down. We always scout out public land locations on water without designated camps. You can find awesome locations using a few tools, we have camped all over from Lakeview, Paisley, Fort Rock, French Glen, Burns, Seneca, Unity, Granite, John Day, and so many more free of charge! Keep making film, I love it!

Thank you so much for watching so glad you enjoyed it. I echo your comment on dispersed camping..that's what we normally do to...this trip was a little different because there was an active fire-ban and only a few campgrounds were approved for fires. Oregon is massive with tons of public land for camping...what a playground for those of us to like to get out!

I also really love all of the layers - I can keep a watch on current snow conditions, fire conditions, public/private land, 72 hour precip forecast, MVUM - all at the same time, which is really great for me as I'm planning routes. Glad you guys made the trek out there! Looks amazing…and is now on my list! We might want to invest in a couple of Idaho made #titanfueltanks trail trekker 2’s!

You made it to Fort rock but didn't go explore Derrick's cave? You weren't far away at that point.

@@Venture2Roam make sure you bring good flash lights if you go. Not a little flashlight... 1,000 lumens at least. First time we went we had pathetic lights. One person was using his cell phone. We couldn't see much and spent our time looking down to see where we were stepping. Also in late May there was still ice in spots on the cave floor and the cave felt 20 or 30 degrees cooler. Bring a sweatshirt.

Here is a thought 💭 invest in some 5gallon Jerry Cans gas problem solved. Born and raised here in Oregon I carry 2 at all times when exploring the wild.

Thanks Sal. That's a fair suggestion, and one that we've looked at many time. One of the disadvantages of driving a Jeep is storage. So Jerry Cans become a space/storage issue, which up to now hasn't really been a problem since everywhere we've been Overlanding has had reasonable access to gas...not so in eastern/central OR!!! So we're looking into a long term, long range gas solution. Jerry cans/rotopax/aux fuel tank are all on the table. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment!!!

Many times as gas came up as an issue. why don’t you carry spare? It is an overlanding vehicle.

We're looking at that now. We've never really needed reserve gas in the past as our routes would take us near gas with plenty of miles to spare. We chose to use the limited space on the Jeep for water instead. We're looking at JerryCans/Rotopax/Longrange tanks as options now. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
