I remember seeing a lot of Richmond - Glenferrie - Camberwell - Box Hill then local to either Lilydale or Belgrave when I was in high school. Very common stopping pattern!

Seems like a disaster that this line never got quad track to Box Hill or Blackburn but rather only triple track, otherwise you could have run everything from east of Box Hill express all the way to the city, and had the Alamein & Box Hill all-stoppers separated from the expresses running on the inner section. This might even have been enough to have kept the Healesville branch due to more expresses and faster journey times. Why does Box Hill have a third platform that never seems to get used?

Platform 1 at Box Hill (the closed platform) was used during reconstruction of Box Hill Station and when the shopping centre above it was also being built. Platform 1 was kept for future use if it was ever needed. Once the centre had opened, Platform 1 was closed off with no access to it.

I'd like to see someone go up that staircase and see where it ends. I always found it spooky that there's an empty platform there for some reason.

@@acesretroonline I 100% agree. It's pretty spooky, just a dark empty platform with a staircase that leads to who knows what

there's a train from belgrave to flinders street on weekdays at 8:09pm all stations to Ringwood express to blackburn express to box hill express to camberwell all stations to Burnley express to richmond all stations to flinders street

1:00, Camberwell can be used too, also Burnley, Richmond to an extent using the city loop portals

I know there probably wouldn't be much point of saying this but what about the stony point line? You haven't gone over that one

I mean you could do the vline network. Especially since some lines are interesting. The Ballarat and geelong group has interesting patterns.

i saw a ringwood train that ran express from: richmond to burnley camberwell to box hill box hill to ringwood is that normal?

Yes. Such services are not on public timetable as far as I know, however these are “extra” counter peak services to move trains back to the sidings or to form new services back to the city.

i loved the series good job on that straya. and now for an opinion sadly: if im gonna be honest i down know why they only put xtrapolis on those groups why can they run anything else like siemens or comeng its pretty confusing

its a relic of the dual operator days, connex had xtraps and ran on the Burnley + Clifton hill groups they modified the lines to work with the xtraps, which made the lines incompatible with other trains

You didn’t that if you are catching the train to the city from upper gully through Belgrave, if the line is just closed and busses ordered then it is better to catch the bus to oakleigh and the the train from there to the city.
