Nice ride. You can still see that the track from Ferntree Gully to Belgrave was a part of Puffing Billy. A Landslide a little bit after Belgrave in 1952 cut this line an 1957 the line was extened to Belgrave. At the same year Puffing Billy started again, first for only a short run to Meenzis Creek.

Obviously you remember your Belgrave line history well. Quite some time after the conversion, maybe as late as around 1990, at one of those stations the buffer stop at the end of a Puffing Billy siding was still in place, (says he replying from Melbourne.)

Tranquil ride amonst the temperate greenery. Might purchase a return ticket.

Yes. A single ticket’s not much use unless you want to sleep on a station bench. 😆

Cool video! What does the d on the signal at 16:17 mean?

Sorry but I cannot help you. I must admit I never noticed it when preparing the video when I could have tried to find out. Only a guess, but maybe it refers to remaining on the Down line to Belgrave rather than into those sidings next to Bayswater.

@tressteleg1 i would assume that is a reasonable guess. I thought it meant d for depot but then the train went into the platfrom so i guess what u said makes sense

@justinwright4833 Normally I would have expected B to be displayed. I should be meeting a couple of drivers in the next week or two so will try to remember to ask.

@@justinwright4833 Could be down? U and D's on those type of signals usually mean down or up. Not sure what the track layout was before the LX removal but might have had a crossover to the Up line

@@tressteleg1 Lots of single track on Belgrave line. Like a good old bush country railway. Wish we still had the one to Warburton.

@acesretroonline True. Not sure if any is due for duplication. Unfortunately Warburton is long gone. As you like bushland single track lines, you may not have seen this one from last week. i think we can do without abbreviations - why show them when you show full name- who uses them?

I show them for the sake of people who want to further their education on the railways. Tram driver instructors have told me they use my videos for their students, and maybe some train driver students also watch mine. So it would help them “learn the road.“

@@tressteleg1 That's fair enough I guess, the only way to learn without taking a cab ride is to watch a movie of the whole thing.

@@acesretroonline Nowadays any driver caught with an unauthorised person in the cab will find himself in serious trouble, so videos like this are the only alternative. I certainly never get cab rides any more despite knowing a couple of drivers.
