Innova Leopard Review (plus bonus Alien upshots!)

Спорт

In this video I review the Innova Leopard while playing 9 holes of best throw disc golf, using 2 different Leopards as my drivers for the round. They're both max-weight (175 grams) in Star plastic. One is the disc I've thrown more than any other driver for the last 3 years - and is well used, and the other one is a brand new disc I plan to replace the old one with. I throw they both off every tee, and take either the best drive, or any lie that I can use to best show these discs in flight.
The Leopard is the disc I've had longer in my bag or cart than any other. Despite being well-used, it's the driver I trust the most for hyzer flips, turnover shots, or roller plays. I believe it's the best fairway driver for beginners, novice, and recreational disc golfers, and will have a long life in any bag as a straight-to-understable fairway driver.

Bonus: I also make short range throws, and some approaches with a max weight Star Alien, as I have an upcoming review of that disc.

My alien hasn't left my bag since day 1, it found its way to my stable straight approach disc between my sol and zone.

Yeah the Alien is a touch less stable than my Pig and basically occupies the slot next to it. I'll use it more for backhand, and my Pig for forehand for certain distances and lines.

If you like the leopard and can get your hands on a star cheetah (they made a limited run on the factory store), its basically the same disc with a bead. Flies about as flippy/ stable, but always with a more consistent fade at the end. Also holds its stability for a bit longer I feel due to the bead. They're the most comfortable disc I've ever held besides a leopard.

I do have one in Star plastic that I used to throw for a few months. I replaced it with an FD and have been using that since. But I still have my Cheetah. It was a factory second that I ordered from the Innova pro shop and wiped the hard-to-see camo F2 stamp on it the instant I got it. 2 other great discs to have are a Gazelle in either Pro, Star, or Champ plastic, and then a DX Whippet.

I have SOOO many Leopard3s haha, it's getting ridiculous. Awesome molds. I have (in max weight): - 8 Ohn TS Halo Leopard3s - 2 GloHalo Ohn Leopard3s - 169g Halo Leopard3 (flies like a Star IT) Needless to say, it is my favorite mold.

Yeah I have 2 Leopards, 3 Leopard3s, and 2 Centurions myself (before I realized those are just Leopard3s) and I bag 1 Leopard and 1 Leopard3 currently. Great discs. Absolute essentials for me.

@@NickCarrollThat's cool! I didn't know the Centurion was the same mold, mostly throw straight "Innova" with a few mixed. Hadn't thrown Millenium or Infinite. I also bag a 166g IT which is a good distance disc because of the max glide. But it does noticably have more dome and blunted edge which some people dislike.

@@zachocracy yeah the Centurion is a specific run of the Leopard3, I've read. But I can't tell the difference really between them and the Leo3's I have. I bought them before I knew they were the same mold. But I could tell as soon I started looking carefully, and I went looking online for verification. No complaints about the 2 I bought. I bagged the swirly star blend Centurion for months before I swapped it out for my IT, then I eventually swapped the IT out for a Champ Leo3 I found, and that's in my bag currently. Reason I prefer the Leo3 to the IT right now is because it's more aerodynamic, and it gives me more stability than my Leopard.

@@NickCarroll Interesting, I guess the Centurion just give more foil choices then haha. I believe there was an Innova vide with Dave Dunapice talking about the discs with "3" in them like the Leopard3 and how they are retooled to be a straighter disc, not necessarily for distance. But I think they go plent far.

@@zachocracyyeah less glide and more aerodynamic profile, therefore faster, is basically their reasoning. I still consider it a 6 speed disc simply because of the rim, and I don't really notice any increase distance per se. But it does fade less in my experience.

Got a Champ Lep3 used whilst buying an almost new =K= Stig, the Lep3 seems to be a nice disc, can hold the line pretty good so gonna test it on some anny and see how far out it goes, had to smooth the rim quite a bit with a micro-fiber cloth ;D The lens looks almost dirty no matter the resolution, the sound is great.

Unfortunately when I got to the course I realized I left my tripod at home, so I had to prop the camera in my ZUCA carts' umbrella holder, which unfortunately means the camera is tilted about 3-6 degrees in every shot. So I had to - in post - zoom, rotate, and pan to align every clip. The lens was completely clean, as I cleaned it just before filming, but unfortunately the use of those features in post on a 1080p image just makes them a little duller. The tripod's back in my trunk now, so this shouldn't happen in future reviews. 🙂

@@NickCarroll Awesome work then instead! Its just a bit fuzzy for the resolution choosen... did you mention this in the video? If so I am sorry for missing it, helping the kids for a bit here and there... :)

@@Iliyena87 No worries! I didn't mention it in the video. To be honest I wasn't even sure this would be good enough to make a video, but it was better in post once I did the edits. I'll avoid this issue in the future, as it's such a pain to edit in post! 🤣
