    This is “Nathan” (go by Drew most places, hence my posting name here). Even though you didn’t have a great round, Travis and I had a good time playing with you and Sean. Definitely weren’t lying in this video when you said your putting game was on, absolutely crushed some big putts after some of your more frustrating shots. The mental game you spoke about here was very strong on the putting stroke, I know you’ll be able to carry it over to the other areas you want to work on. We’d be glad to host you out at Gracepoint DGC once the renovations are completed, will give you a shout!

    You know, I saw that wonky turn in your glitch practice round video. After the first few throws, I though "man do you have a flippy glitch". But then I noticed Sean was throwing them pretty straight with about the same amount of power. I thought maybe Sean was throwing them more nose up, since you can occasionally see the label on his tosses, but that shouldn't affect a low speed disc so much because of it's blunt rim. I finally came to the conclusion that you somehow lost some spin. That would cause the wobble and the exaggerated turn. Then I watched this video and noticed you were throwing much better. Glad to see the change to your swing is working. Elbow up, and deep in the pocket. Keep up the good work, love your videos.

  • @NickCarroll
    @NickCarroll7 күн бұрын

    Thank you! Yeah I started working on my form recently, after taking a couple months off. Basically I reverted to some old habits in the tournament that I didn't notice, that made throwing the Glitches much worse. The wider stance, coiling more, both help. I need to work on the shoulder rotation and elbow angle next. I've always had lower spin and higher wobble, so I hope to improve both stats in the future. 🙂

  • @duanefleer833
    @duanefleer8337 күн бұрын

    FWIW, I agree completely about the mental game… my solo rounds are almost always better than group rounds because I can focus more, particularly after less ‘than desirable’ shots. I played a round at Briscoe a little over a couple of weeks ago and shot the worst round I’ve had in probably a year or more. Went back out to play it again a few days ago and shot par. The difference? Not letting one bad shot compound into multiple(s). On one hole (9 I believe) I scored a quad bogey - pretty sure it’s been a couple of years since I’d score one hole that bad. The reason? Trying to make a ‘hero’ shot after a bad one. Not that those recovery shots were ones I hadn’t been successful with before, but the margin for error was very slim and it was very hot so I wasn’t quite ‘on my game’… and errors compound. I was watching the MDG coverage of the 1st round of the Swedish Open, and Nicklas Antilla was having a bad 1st half of the round. The commentators remarked how he’s so even-keeled, even if he gets a bad break or has a bad hole, his focus is on playing each upcoming hole to his best rather than on what his score for the round is… once a hole is carded, you can’t change it x you can only card the upcoming holes the best you can. Interesting comment on focus…

  • @NickCarroll
    @NickCarroll7 күн бұрын

    Yeah I think things just spiraled out of control. I think if I just divided the length of every par 3 hole in half, and just threw to the middle on every one of those. Then on the par 4 holes divided the distance in 3, I would have done a lot better. But most of my drives were really bad, but upshots that were somewhat open were decent for the most part. So backup planning would have been helpful. But at least for myself I couldn't adapt to the situation and I buried myself in the tournament because of it.

    I'm fairly disappointed in mine, had them less than a month and the bottom started breaking. Idio was super slow in responding and because of that I missed my return exchange window. Now they are good shoes but they are absolutely not water proof anymore for me, the water comes in from the bottom, possibly because of the defect/brokenness of the shoe. I still use them when the weather allows but for $130 I'm fairly disappointed

    Hi Nick, from my suffering experience with yips I can give you two (from seveal) possible causes for your stuttering motion: 1. At a certain point of time after a long established putting form works very well your brain may begin to refuse its cooperation, because it can not deal with the monotony it is confronted with your one and only putting form. Brains only work well when the stimulus is diverse, rewardful (not to be mixed up with a successfull putting hit rate!!!) and somehow challenging. If this neglected (by just offering monotous stuff) its main functions (processing, coordinating, improvising, combining, remembering, etc) become sort of "numb". 2. Yips may be caused by self-inflicted mental pressure (e.g. expecting a certain improved percentage in your hit rate within a given practice time limit or the feeling of being watched by other (competition) players while you are trying to hit an important birdie on the last hole or... or... or..). Try to figure out if the yips reoccurs after you have switched to another putting form or "watch" your (pressuring or restricting) thoughts right before you execute a putt. Hopefully you could overcome this nasty handicap in the meantime. Good luck and enjoy our sport. What I could observe in your motion: The follow through of your arm appears insufficient. It seems like you have implemented a sort of "upward limiter". And occasionally there some additional drawing back motion of your arm, as if you (or your brain) tries to avoid a collision with an invisible object.

    Is this Houston? I think I seen this course on udisc..... New to the area. Where is the best place to find mini's, local leagues. Best place to play after rain?

    Depends on the side of town you're on, but Brock Park is one of the best, and it's on the north east side, so fairly reachable from most parts of H-Town. On Facebook, look for Groups like Houston Disc Golf, and Houston Flying Disc Society. From there, look for other Groups in your area. If you need more information, just let me know!

    @@kurtisfoley2314 North Side Chain Gang, Cypress Disc Golf, and Lake Houston Disc Golf would be 3 other groups you should subscribe to. You'll be close to Northside Church, Spring Valley (now called Spring Country Club) and a few others. UDisc is your friend!

    @@kurtisfoley2314 Yep! Wednesday nights after 5pm we're at Northside Church maybe 1-2 times a month. Thursday nights after 5pm Sean and I are at Spring Valley 2 or 3 times a month. So those are the greatest chances we'll be around. In some rarer occurrences we'll do a mini somewhere else on Sunday morning.
