My Upper Arm Drill for Shoulder Collapse and Rounding
Спорт
In this video I discuss why focusing on the upper arm and shoulder is important to keep the upper arm from externally rotating, therefore collapsing at the shoulder during the backswing and swing. Then I demonstrate and explain my drill for the upper arm.
Note: my particular issue is a mix of horizontal and vertical collapse. I do the following:
1) in the backswing, the arm reaches back faster than the shoulders rotate. So that's what causes a more acute angle than 90 degrees. (rounding)
2) at the peak of my backswing, the arm reaches it's farthest point BEFORE my lead foot plants. (throw before plant)
3) in the swing, the shoulders initiate the swing, the arm lags behind, so it gets somewhat pinched by the torso. (more rounding)

I just filmed myself for the first time after playing for the last 2 years, and I should have had someone do it much sooner. I have been watching Sling Shot Disc Golf's channel and he really has a great way of explaining how to achieve "pro" form. I am 62 years almost and I did not realize what my off arm ( left arm ) was doing? So I have corrected that issue over the past few weeks. I think you are not relaxing your throwing arm? It should be like a wet noodle

Yeah it's the weirdest thing. My off arm just tenses up like that. I don't even feel it really. I look back on video and it's locked into that shape. It's something I'm looking into.
Whats your pdga rating?
